Background / History

Grindelwald was the Dark Lord who once led a Europe-wide wizarding movement under the slogan “For the Greater Good.” She framed wizard rule over Muggles as a necessary response to persecution, secrecy, and the anticipated threat of Muggle technology; her followers treated the movement as salvation rather than oppression. Her campaigns nevertheless included massacres of those who opposed her, including civilians. 90 423

She and Albus Dumbledore were once close allies who envisioned remaking the world together. Their alliance fractured, and after their Blood Pact broke, Dumbledore defeated her in a duel. Grindelwald was subsequently confined in Nurmengard for decades, described at times as having accepted or imposed her own imprisonment. 90 108 529
