"Tuoba Xuan, Soul Power Level—three!"
Tuoba Xuan stared fixedly at the faintly glowing crystal ball before him.
The boy's eyes were incredibly bright, as if they held ten thousand rays of light.
If he were placed in a crowd, even dressed in common cloth, he would undoubtedly be the first person anyone noticed.
Yet, at this moment, the corners of the boy's eyes held a trace of desolation.
"Five years have passed, and my soul power hasn't improved even a fraction?"
The boy muttered to himself, his fists clenching unconsciously.
Listening to the countless jeers and sighs surrounding him, the boy felt not a shred of shame or anger.
Eleven years ago, Tuoba Xuan had accidentally transmigrated to Douluo Continent and become the grandson of the Sacred Dragon Sect Master, Tuoba Xi.
Logically speaking, while this starting point wasn't top-tier, it was still quite good.
However, everything had undergone a heaven-shaking reversal five years ago during the martial soul awakening ceremony.
"Tuoba Xuan, Innate Soul Power... three. Martial soul... uh... a dirt-yellow pig."
Those words from five years ago were carved into Tuoba Xuan's mind like knife strokes on stone.
"Hahahaha, his Innate Soul Power is only three..."
"It's hilarious, he should go sit at the same table as that purple pig from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. One yellow, one purple—they'd make quite the pair..."
"What a piece of trash. With so many of the sect's resources poured into him, they actually raised someone whose martial soul is a dirt pig..."
"Get out of the sect! Get out of the sect! Such trash doesn't deserve to stay in the sect..."
Mockery! Ridicule! Cold stares! Contempt!
For five years, day after day, these words had pierced Tuoba Xuan's ears.
Tuoba Xuan gave a faint, self-deprecating smile. "Enough!"
Immediately, Tuoba Xuan turned his gaze toward the dignified old man standing to the side.
"Grandfather, thank you for the sect's cultivation all these years, and thank you for never giving up on me." Tuoba Xuan's voice was incredibly resolute. "But I have indeed become a burden to the sect. I request of you—to leave the sect!"
As Tuoba Xuan finished speaking, the entire hall was shocked, and those who had been mocking him earlier hung their mouths agape.
"This trash actually has some backbone..."
"Hmph, he should have been kicked out of the sect long ago. Don't you know how much of a laughingstock this trash has made the sect over the years..."
"Exactly, exactly. After eating the sect's food for so many years, it's time for him to get out..."
More merciless jeers followed.
"Enough!" A booming voice exploded through the sect's grand hall.
Sect Master Tuoba Xi stared at Tuoba Xuan with complex eyes.
This was his most beloved grandson; in his heart, his grandson was always the best and inferior to no one.
"Little Xuan, you don't have to do this. With Grandfather here, no one will ever bully you again!"
Tuoba Xuan shook his head, his eyes incredibly firm.
"Grandfather, thank you, but this is my choice. One day, I will return, and when I do, I will be a towering, indomitable powerhouse."
The entire hall fell into a deathly silence!
What arrogance, what determination, and what confidence!
The sect disciples' throats bobbed, all of them feeling an nameless fire burning in their hearts.
"A towering, indomitable powerhouse, you say?"
Tuoba Xi let out a hearty laugh, his large hand gripping Tuoba Xuan's shoulder tightly.
"Good! Grandfather will wait for that day—the day my grandson becomes a towering, indomitable powerhouse!"
Deep in the night, the small, secluded gate of the Sacred Dragon Sect was pushed open gently.
Tuoba Xuan walked out carrying a shoulder bag. The cold night wind hit him, and he couldn't help but sneeze.
A maple leaf covered in white frost drifted down into Tuoba Xuan's hand.
"It really is vibrant, isn't it?" Tuoba Xuan sighed, opening his hand and letting the maple leaf drift away with the wind.
"Grandfather!" Tuoba Xuan looked up at the bright full moon; the moonlight hit him, casting a tall shadow.
"Little Xuan, are you really leaving?" Tuoba Xi's figure emerged from the shadows.
"I am really leaving, Grandfather. A person has to do something with their life!"
Tuoba Xuan looked toward the north with a firm gaze; it was the direction he always dreamed of, as if it were guiding him.
Tuoba Xi nodded slightly and handed a ring to Tuoba Xuan.
"Little Xuan, if you are ever bullied, come back and find Grandfather. Remember, the Sacred Dragon Sect will always be your home!"
Tuoba Xi's voice sounded somewhat desolate, fading away into the darkness.
Tuoba Xuan slid the ring onto the index finger of his right hand and bowed deeply toward the darkness.
"Rest assured, Grandfather. That day won't be long in coming."
Tuoba Xuan inspected the ring.
It was a storage Soul Tool known as the Green Wood Ring, containing some Gold Soul Coins and resources his grandfather had left for him.
Although the night was chilly, a wave of warmth surged within Tuoba Xuan's heart.
If there was anyone he felt most guilty about leaving behind, it was his grandfather.
Though Tuoba Xuan was the Young Sect Master of the Sacred Dragon Sect, he possessed the traditional starting point of a novel protagonist.
That was—both parents deceased!
Furthermore, Tuoba Xuan was Tuoba Xi's only grandson and his sole direct descendant.
As someone who had read the original work, Tuoba Xuan naturally knew the fate of the Sacred Dragon Sect, as well as his grandfather's tragic end.
Since he had already arrived in this world, Tuoba Xuan had to do something.
For the sake of the Sacred Dragon Sect, for his grandfather, and for himself as well.
Over the past five years, whenever Tuoba Xuan tossed and turned, unable to sleep, he would always dream of the same scene.
It was a valley that seemed to have no end, where countless lingering souls roared at him, struggling in agony.
Piles of bones lay scattered about, and it felt as if thousands of spirits within the valley were waiting for him.
Tuoba Xuan did not know how long he had been walking when he reached a small stream and finally felt a hint of exhaustion.
Tuoba Xuan took a sip of the sweet river water. As the moonlight shone down, the water shimmered, and his own reflection vanished.
"Quite beautiful!" Tuoba Xuan chuckled, but he instantly sensed that something was wrong.
The shimmering light was far too pronounced, and besides, why was his shadow covered by something?
"Ahhh!" Tuoba Xuan whipped his head around, startled out of his wits.
"Holy crap, a ghost!" Tuoba Xuan let out a shriek, scrambling to move away.
"Hey, kid, do you want to become stronger?"
The 'ghost' suddenly spoke, giving Tuoba Xuan another fright.
"Ghosts can talk?" Tuoba Xuan tried to calm his pounding heart.
"You're the ghost! Your whole family is ghosts!"
The 'ghost' retorted irritably.
"Perhaps you don't know who I am, but I should thank you for your help over these past few years."
"Who the hell are you?"
Anger flared in Tuoba Xuan's heart. He felt as if he had seen this plot in his past life, and he remembered it with startling clarity.
"Me? You can call me..."
Tuoba Xuan cut the 'ghost' off mid-sentence.
"Wait, don't tell me you've been hiding on me this whole time, absorbing my Soul Power for the past five years?"
Tuoba Xuan gritted his teeth as he shouted, finally seeing the appearance of the 'ghost' before him.
It was an incredibly small dragon shadow, earthy-yellow in color, with two spiral horns on its head. Its wings fluttered slightly, its deep-brown scales were layered one upon another, and its heavy tail seemed to possess the power of ten thousand jun.
"Well, you guessed right. However, I am no ghost. I am the Mountain Dragon King!"
