Background / History

Liu Lin was orphaned after his parents—described as martyrs who died for the Star Luo Empire—were killed. Relatives divided his family's property and death benefits, cared for him briefly, then sent him to an orphanage. Retaining adult memories from a previous life, he struggled to fit in with the other children and hoped martial-soul cultivation would eventually let him find his parents' murderer. Dean Zhang became his principal caregiver during his two years at the orphanage. 1 4 5

At six, Liu Lin awakened the Crimson Radiance Burning Heaven Dragon and Mystic Abyss Silent Shadow Dragon, twin dragon martial souls carrying Ultimate Fire and Ultimate Ice. The awakening flooded the room with extreme temperatures and required Wang Wei's protective barrier to keep the other children safe. 2

His talent drew the attention of Emperor Xu Jiawei, who personally recruited him for the Star Luo Empire. Liu Lin accepted service to the empire, received the title Viscount of Loyalty and Valor, and was betrothed to Xu Jiawei's younger sister, Princess Xu Jiujiu. During his first soul-ring expedition to the Star Dou Forest, Liu Lin met the Three-Eyed Golden Ni. Their contact gave him fragmented memories of a future connection and the Eye of Destiny; he vowed to protect her after learning of danger connected to Tang San. 13 14 15

Later, Zhang Lexuan brought Liu Lin to the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well in Sunset Forest. There, he received the inheritances of the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King and promised to one day perform a thousand-day burial for the dragons of Dragon Valley. 25 27

Liu Lin is initially depicted as a six-year-old boy with black pupils that change when his martial souls manifest. Three years later, he is described as a youth with long black hair. 2 16
