Background / History

Tang San enters Shrek Academy alongside Xiao Wu and other applicants. During the entrance assessment, Xiao Wu is knocked unconscious by the backlash from using Charm against Wen Ruan, prompting Tang San to furiously threaten Wen Ruan. He subsequently launches hidden weapons at her, but Lin Yan intercepts the attack with his body, beginning their lasting enmity. 37 38

Tang San refuses to accept responsibility for nearly injuring Wen Ruan, arguing that an examiner who cannot withstand his attack lacks the skill to serve as one. Dean Flender eventually forces him to apologize, an incident Tang San regards as a deep humiliation and which intensifies his resentment toward Lin Yan. 38 41

Before the Star Dou Forest expedition, Lin Yan challenges Tang San's Blue Silver Grass cultivation path, arguing that its poison-attribute rings conflict with its life-oriented nature. Tang San initially rejects the criticism, trusting Yu Xiaogang's theories and insisting that his level 29 cultivation proves the path is sound. 45 47

While chasing after the abducted Xiao Wu, Tang San reaches level 30 and battles a Man Faced Demon Spider. Lin Yan kills the spider, denies Tang San its soul ring, and coerces him into absorbing a thousand-year Solitary Bamboo instead. Afterward, Tang San discovers that his meridians have become smoother and that the poison-attribute Soul Power in his body is gradually being cleansed, forcing him to question his teacher's guidance. 51 52

After Lin Yan takes Xiao Wu away and kills her for her hundred-thousand-year soul ring, Tang San searches for her with his father, Tang Hao. Tang Hao reveals Xiao Wu's identity as a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast; Tang San nevertheless insists that he will protect her as his only family. 55 56 57

Tang Hao is later captured by Spirit Hall. Tang San blames Lin Yan for both Xiao Wu's disappearance and his father's fate, demanding that Zhao Wuji seize Lin Yan; Zhao Wuji instead rebukes and injures him. 58 59

At Blue Tyrant Academy, Tang San falls into despair over Xiao Wu's disappearance and Tang Hao's capture, refusing food and water for nearly a month. He briefly recovers after overhearing Yu Xiaogang's concern, but feels abandoned when Yu Xiaogang accepts Ma Hongjun as a personal disciple. 81 82

Lin Yan eventually has Tang San's Soul Power sealed and orders his imprisonment. When confronting him, Lin Yan identifies Tang San's attempted killing of Wen Ruan as the basis of their grudge and demands that he remain captive rather than resist. 84 85 91

Personality

Tang San is intensely protective and possessive of Xiao Wu. Her injury during the Shrek assessment sends him into a rage, and her disappearance later drives him to pursue her recklessly, refuse food, and plead with Tang Hao to spare her despite learning she is a soul beast. 37 50 57 81

He is proud of both his hidden weapons and Yu Xiaogang's cultivation theories. Lin Yan's criticism of either provokes immediate hostility, and Tang San treats his forced apology to Wen Ruan as a humiliation to be avenged. 41 45 52

Repeated setbacks deepen Tang San's resentment. He blames Zhao Wuji, Meng Yiran, and Lin Yan after being overshadowed during the Star Dou Forest expedition, and later invokes Tang Hao and the Clear Sky Sect while demanding that Zhao Wuji obey him. 50 59
