Something Was Wrong with Him

Hearing Ma Kun's roar behind him, Liu Feng did not look back. His figure shot straight ahead.

As the distance closed, the insect tide was less than thirty feet away, a swirling mass of multicolored toxic mist rolling before him.

Within the billowing poison mist, countless gu insects were packed together into rolling swarms. Some belonged to this cave, while others came from the Gu Children, devouring one another.

At the heart of the swarm, nearly twenty Gu Children and Liu Xing were locked in a chaotic melee, human figures covered in gu insects crashing into each other.

As Liu Feng neared the insect swarm, Ma Kun bellowed ahead, "Steward Liu, help me stop Liu Feng! There will be a generous reward once we get out!"

Liu Xing, who was fighting the Gu Children, immediately seized an opening. With a swing of his arm, several hundred gu insects shot toward Liu Feng like a volley of beans.

"You little bastard, stay right there." Liu Xing answered Ma Kun with action, sending Ma Kun into wild delight.

Liu Feng did not slow. His ink-black nails sliced across his left arm, tearing open a half-foot-long bloody gash. With a flick, he sent out a large swarm of gu insects as well.

The two swarms, carrying their hosts' poisonous blood, collided in midair. In an instant, the gu insects pounced on each other and tore savagely at one another.

A few gu insects slipped through and landed on Liu Feng's body. He did not need to deal with them; the gu insects parasitizing his body acted on their own.

"Whoosh..."

A fierce wind howled.

A grotesquely thick arm sent countless gu insects flying as it swept brutally toward Liu Feng, who was about to break through.

This little bastard had taken quite a few of his punches. Like those lucky Gu Children, he had merely managed to cling to life.

Yet what followed was that Liu Xing's charge, pounce, and two sweeping arms all struck empty air.

Liu Feng's figure smoothly burst through. Then his cold, gloomy voice drifted back. "Liu, I'll come back to repay you."

With that, he gave Liu Xing a contemptuous glance and turned away.

Using the Mind Eye Technique to observe Liu Xing, he saw nothing but openings: his exertion and withdrawal of force lagged behind, his footing was unsteady. With the Mind Eye Technique active, avoiding him was not difficult at all.

If his killing power had been sufficient, he would have sent this madman Liu Xing on his way right now!

Within the insect swarm, beneath eyelids covered in gu insects, Liu Xing stared fixedly in the direction Liu Feng had vanished.

As a Gu Servant in charge of many Gu Children, every Gu Child had to respectfully call him "Steward Liu." Yet Liu Feng had dared to call him Liu outright and even threaten to return and settle matters with him!

At that moment, five figures swept over in succession. They were Ma Kun and the others.

The five did not spare Liu Xing another glance. Unable to wait any longer, they broke through a weak point in the insect swarm and pursued Liu Feng.

Most of the gu insects here had rushed toward the entrance of the Gu Cave. Only a few scattered piles of insects remained.

By the faint light emitted by the Strip Worms on the cave ceiling, they saw a fork in the path not far ahead, one route leading left and the other right, both deeper into the cave.

"Captain Ma, look at the blood on the ground. Liu Feng should have fled down the left passage," said the square-faced Gu Child.

"Move. We have to kill him today. We can't leave behind this future calamity."

Eyes bloodshot, Ma Kun waved a large hand and led the four Gu Children single file into the left passage.

Further ahead, the light grew dimmer and dimmer, while the Strip Worms on the ceiling became increasingly sparse. In the depths of the darkness, apart from insect cries, only the footsteps of the five echoed.

The five never stopped, clearing several small groups of gu insects along the way. After pursuing through the winding passage for about a quarter of an hour, they all came to a halt.

In the darkness ahead stood the blurry outline of a youth. Was that not Liu Feng?

"You really did come after me!"

Liu Feng stood with his back against the stone wall. He appeared to have been waiting there for some time, not at all like someone fleeing for his life.

Before Ma Kun, the leader, could speak, a medium-built Gu Child behind him shouted, "I advise you not to put up pointless resistance. Otherwise, we'll be like that madman Liu and use gu insects to devour your blood essence alive."

The square-faced Gu Child beside him gave a sinister laugh. "He's alone. He isn't even enough for the gu insects of the five of us to share."

Across the passage, chill intent filled Liu Feng's eyes. He walked toward the five, smiling as he said, "Killing people to raise gu—good idea. Now let's see whether you kill me, or I kill every last one of you."

"Kill all of us? This bastard has gone mad. Get him together!" Ma Kun roared, his figure springing forward.

Five on one side, one alone on the other.

Before they had fully closed in, two massive swarms of gu insects collided. Ma Kun's side clearly held the numerical advantage.

"Buzz, buzz..."

Amid the insect cries, the surplus gu insects surged toward Liu Feng.

Liu Feng opened his pitch-black lips and sprayed out a mouthful of poisonous blood. After blocking part of the swarm, he directly endured the remaining gu insects with his body. They were all Gu Children, after all; these gu insects could not poison him to death, only inflict some harmful effects on his physique.

A figure flashed past where he stood. Liu Feng, enduring the bites of the gu insects, arrived before Ma Kun.

"Die!" Ma Kun's vicious face showed itself beneath the lumps covering his body. His palm, smeared with gu insect remains and venom, struck toward Liu Feng's face.

At the same time, the four people behind him attacked together from above, below, left, and right, striking at Liu Feng's vital points from four directions.

The next moment, the same bizarre scene as before appeared again.

The five killing moves all missed in succession, brushing right past Liu Feng! Liu Feng, meanwhile, brought his ten jet-black, poisonous fingers together like blades. One "blade" stabbed into Ma Kun's lower abdomen, while another pierced into the square-faced Gu Child's neck.

Two miserable cries rang through the passage. One man staggered back heavily wounded, while the other fell to the ground without moving.

The remaining three Gu Children roared furiously. At the moment of life and death, punches, elbow strikes, knee smashes... even the street-fighting tricks from their days as homeless children—all of it came pouring out at once.

Figures crossed back and forth through the darkness. Blow after blow came flying, but Liu Feng avoided every vital point, suffering only a few minor wounds to his limbs.

"Pfft."

"Pfft, pfft!" Shortly afterward, two more corpses lay on the ground, while one other person retreated with grave injuries.

In only a few exchanges, Ma Kun's side had suffered three dead and two wounded!

Looking again at Ma Kun and the other Gu Child, the vicious aura around them seemed as though it had been doused with cold water. Their hearts full of killing intent had turned to fear, and both faces were filled with disbelief.
