Background

Liu Feng begins as a Gu Child under Insect Valley’s control. Harassed by Ma Kun and other children, he endures the abuse while holding onto a single goal: become a Gu Master, escape the valley, and find his father, mother, and younger brother. 1

While clearing a Medicine Pit, he finds a Seven-Colored Pebble. The pebble slows his perception of time, allowing him to evade attacks and kill Qiao Fei; it also shows him a future vision of his own death. 2 Later, the artifact leads him to the Nameless Immeasurable Bone Buddha and ultimately dissolves into his spine as the True Bone Sarira. 3 4

He learns that Insect Valley’s failed disciples are transformed into Exotic Gu, and that Valley Master Lu Huai has placed a restriction on every Gu Child. Before transforming completely, the former First Senior Brother and Second Senior Sister entrust Liu Feng with insect crystals, the Exotic Gu eggs Fire Eater and Flower Immortal, and the protection of their daughter, Leng Qiuyue. 14

During his journey beyond Insect Valley, Liu Feng becomes entangled with Cangtuo Temple’s Buddhist inheritance, the Erosion Sect, the Wheel Turning Sect, royal-blood clans, and the wider Void Realm. His connection to Mirror Dust, his recurring past-life memories, and the remnants of his first life steadily reshape both his cultivation and temperament. 363 402 650

By the Great Calamity, Liu Feng’s massacres of royal-blood clans, capture of eighth-realm cultivators, and repeated victories over sect-master-level figures make him known across the continents as the “Liu Demon.” 574 696 At the culmination of the calamity, he discovers that the being carrying his memories and humanity is distinct from the true spirit of the original Liu Feng. 725

Appearance

Liu Feng initially has a delicate face and a physically weak body, but Gu refinement transforms him substantially. By the time he becomes a Gu Master, he is taller, slender, sharp-featured, and described as handsome and ethereal. 1 20

Personality

Liu Feng is calculating, self-preserving, and patient when circumstances demand it. He avoids direct confrontation when he lacks the means to win, such as when he escapes Liu Xing in the Gu Cave rather than attempting an unwinnable fight. 6

He is also ruthless toward threats. He ambushes Ma Kun’s group, kills rivals in Lu Huai’s deathmatch, executes Ma Kun after becoming Fourth Senior Brother, and later silences bandits who witnessed his Gu Fire. 6 24 26 47

Despite this pragmatism, he accepts responsibility for Leng Qiuyue after receiving her parents’ final request. He intervenes to protect her, provides her with Blood Qi Pills, and arranges for Fang Xing and Hu Xiangyang to watch over her during his absence. 14 16 26
