Background
Born as the young clan master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Xiaogang received extensive Dragon Blood Grass herbal baths before his Martial Soul awakening. Despite this upbringing, he awakened with only half a rank of Innate Soul Power, becoming an exception among the clan’s direct descendants. The clan’s rejection and ridicule remained a lasting source of shame for him. 434 443
Unable to advance through conventional cultivation, Xiaogang turned to Martial Soul theory. He became known as the “Great Master” and published the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, though his authorship and the rigor of his theories are disputed in-story; Wang Zhao alleges that Xiaogang compiled others’ knowledge and that some followers were harmed through blind adherence to his conclusions. 136 151
By the time he settled in Nuoding City, Xiaogang was a level 29 Soul Grandmaster with a reputation for theory but little combat strength. He lived at Nuoding Academy as a resident rather than an instructor, relying in part on the academy principal for food and lodging. 5 268
Appearance
Yu Xiaogang is a middle-aged man whose deliberately melancholic, decadent bearing is meant to project the image of an overlooked yet profound scholar. 247 268
- Carries himself with a restrained, aloof posture when presenting himself as the “Great Master.” 247 268
- His composed façade frequently collapses under public mockery, drunkenness, or threats to his dignity. 248 249
Personality
Xiaogang is intensely proud of his theoretical identity and craves recognition for his knowledge. Although he initially refused to register with the Freedom Guild because he regarded it as working for the much younger Wang Zhao, he ultimately did so because the platform offered him a chance to publicize his ideas and reputation. 248
His pride is closely tied to deep insecurity. Xiaogang envies Wang Zhao’s extraordinary talent and often imagines how different his own life would have been had he possessed a true Golden Sacred Dragon Martial Soul and Innate Full Soul Power. 248
He can endure ridicule in silence when sober, but humiliation easily provokes anger and irrational behavior. During the Nuoding tavern incident, he vented his resentment on Luo Sanpao and aggressively demanded the return of his dropped Soul Ring Inner Core from the man who had protected it. 248 249 250
Despite his vanity and ambition, Xiaogang is invested in his disciples’ futures. He plans their Soul Ring paths, gathers intelligence for their battles, and worries about the Blue Tyrant Academy Team’s prospects against stronger opponents. 286 288 480 491
Abilities & Skills
Luo Sanpao
Luo Sanpao is Xiaogang’s rare Detached Beast Martial Soul. Unlike an ordinary Beast Martial Soul manifestation, it possesses intelligence, a physical body, and the ability to eat and digest food. 2
- Resembles a small, dark-purple, pig-like Golden Sacred Dragon hatchling. 248
- Can release foul yellow gas as an attack. 249 250
- Its physical presence allows it to be grabbed, carried, and affected independently of Xiaogang. 2 249
- Returned involuntarily to Xiaogang’s body when his attempted Soul Skill activation was disrupted, leaving him without protection during his confrontation with Nuoding City soldiers. 250 251
First Soul Skill: *Farting Like Thunder—Earth-Shattering Luo Sanpao*
Xiaogang’s First Soul Skill enhances Luo Sanpao’s gaseous attack. 250
- Intended to produce a denser cloud of foul yellow gas than Luo Sanpao’s normal emission. 250
- Its activation in the Nuoding tavern was secretly interrupted by Wang Zhao, causing Luo Sanpao to fall and return to Xiaogang’s body. 250
Soul Master Theory and Instruction
Xiaogang possesses broad theoretical knowledge of Martial Souls, Soul Rings, and Soul Master cultivation. His expertise allows him to identify unusual Martial Soul traits and advise disciples on Soul Ring selection. 269 286 288
- Registered with the Freedom Guild as an academic capable of addressing Soul Master theory problems. 247
- Recognized Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls and used that knowledge to persuade him into becoming a disciple. 268
- Assessed a top-grade Inner Core Soul Ring modeled after the Bloodthorn, identifying its toughness, sharpness, and poison attributes. 288
- Prepared opponent intelligence and delegated Blue Tyrant Academy Team lineup selection to Tang San. 409 480
Inner Core Soul Ring Research
Xiaogang seeks to uncover the principles behind Inner Core Soul Rings and replicate their creation, believing that doing so could elevate him beyond other theorists. 250
- Purchased Ten-Year and Century Soul Ring Inner Cores using his Spirit Hall subsidy, borrowed money, and assistance from the Nuoding Academy principal. 250
- Focused on understanding the Power of Faith involved in Inner Core Soul Rings. 250
- His research produced no confirmed breakthrough; the Power of Faith was beyond the grasp of a Soul Master at his level. 250
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Martial Soul Hall Elder Token — entrusted to him by Tang Hao after Tang Hao asked Xiaogang to care for Tang San. 287
- Ten-Year and Century Soul Ring Inner Cores — acquired as materials for his research; the Century core was confiscated when he was arrested after the Nuoding tavern disturbance. 250 251

Story Role / Major Arcs
Freedom Guild and the Nuoding Tavern Incident
Xiaogang registered with the Freedom Guild as an academic problem-solver, hoping the guild would give his theories recognition. At a Nuoding City tavern, patrons ridiculed his claims and provoked him into a confrontation. 247 248
After Luo Sanpao caused a disturbance, Xiaogang lost control, attacked his own Martial Soul in frustration, and dropped a cloth bag containing a Century Soul Ring Inner Core. His attempted use of his First Soul Skill failed, and Nuoding City soldiers arrested him for disrupting order. 249 250 251
Mentoring Tang San and Xiao Huohuo
Xiaogang recruited Tang San after learning that the child possessed Innate Full Soul Power, Blue Silver Grass, and a second Martial Soul. He used his knowledge of Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls to secure the disciple’s acceptance. 268 269
He also accepted Xiao Chenyu—later Xiao Huohuo—as his first disciple after Xiao Father revealed the boy’s abnormal Martial Soul changes. Under Xiaogang’s guidance, Xiao Huohuo obtained a fire-attributed First Soul Ring. 297 298
Blue Tyrant Academy
While working with Shrek Academy and the Blue Tyrant Academy Team, Xiaogang served as an analyst and strategist. He collected information on opposing teams, advised his students, and eventually permitted Tang San to choose the lineup against Elephant Armored Academy. 409 480
Wang Zhao’s Handbook
After Liu Erlong confirmed her relationship with Wang Zhao, Xiaogang received a handbook from Wang Zhao describing methods and experiences related to changing the fate of a Detached Beast Martial Soul. Xiaogang was initially grateful and hopeful, but became alarmed upon finding a cultivation method that required castration. 439 440
Tang San’s later disclosure that Immortal Herbs could evolve Martial Souls renewed Xiaogang’s hope of improving Luo Sanpao. He began experimenting with Dragon Blood Grass, with disastrous results. 443
Journey to Spirit City
Concerned about the Blue Tyrant Academy Team’s future and Tang San’s exposed Clear Sky Hammer, Xiaogang rode to Spirit City to seek Bibi Dong’s help. Instead, he encountered Wang Zhao acting as the temporary Pope, who immediately identified Xiaogang’s likely purpose: obtaining guidance on Twin Martial Soul cultivation for Tang San. 491
