Background
Chu Yan awakens the Yan Divine Weapon instead of the Chu Clan’s customary Staff Martial Soul. Information received during the awakening identifies it as a nine-stage weapon associated with Spirit Readers. In Chu Yan’s world, its requirements operate through spiritual power, while its Metal and Space laws manifest as Ultimate Metal and spatial attributes 1 3.
The weapon can condense soul rings without hunting soul beasts or obtaining soul spirits. Its first ring’s unusual origin and age lead Chu Yan and his father to keep the ability secret; Chu Yan later demonstrates it to Leng Yaozhu 3 6 19. Over the following three years, cultivation and energy absorbed through the Spirit Ascension Platform increase his ring ages 26.
Appearance
The Yan Divine Weapon normally appears as a dark-golden staff covered in intricate golden patterns. Its surface opens into fine fissures when its blades emerge 1 4.
- Staff dimensions: Approximately two meters long and fifteen centimeters in diameter at awakening 1.
- Blades: 10,081 palm-sized golden pieces bearing secret patterns 1.
- Stored form: A golden mark on Chu Yan’s palm, from which he can summon the staff 3 4.
Abilities & Skills
Autonomous Soul-Ring Condensation
The weapon draws on its own energy to form soul rings suited to Chu Yan’s capacity 3 6.
- Its first ring forms at 750 years without an external soul beast or soul spirit 3 4.
- Its second ring also forms autonomously; by Chapter 26, it is nearly 3,000 years old 26.
- Physical strength and spiritual power limit what Chu Yan can bear. Spirit Ascension Platform energy can also be converted into ring age 4 26.
Phantom Sword Style
The first form and first soul skill uses spiritually controlled blades to create sword shadows that alternate between illusion and tangible attacks 4.
- Full use of the form requires nine swords. Chu Yan progresses from four controlled swords to eighteen, though the second group of nine lacks the precision of his primary nine 4 26.
- Each sword is described as having attack power equivalent to 250% of Chu Yan’s soul power 4.
- Four swords penetrate partway into Xu Xiaoyu’s Ice Wheel but do not break through it. Controlling all four at full exertion rapidly drains Chu Yan’s mental energy 9 10.
Sky Piercing Form
The second form and second soul skill concentrates nine blades into a rotating, palm-sized dark-gold spike for single-point penetration 26 28.
- The spike’s tip carries spatial patterns and can produce tiny spatial cracks 26.
- Leng Yaozhu judges its demonstrated spatial tear to be slight, though sufficient to touch the edge of the Law of Space 28.
Staff Combat
Chu Yan can wield the intact weapon with the Chu Clan’s Hunyuan Staff Technique before switching to its flying blades 9 28.
- Leng Yaozhu regards his close-quarters staff technique as sound, but says the weapon’s greater potential lies in his comprehension of Metal and Space rather than staff fighting alone 28.
