Background / History

Zhi meets Lin after finding and rescuing her during his travels. Though nervous around her, he accurately predicts her recovery and agrees to explore with her after she has healed. Years later, Zhi is known as Ming Jian; Lin, Kuo Zhe, and Ye Zi similarly become Yaming, Kuo Ming, and Ye Ming respectively 4.

On a deserted island following a mysterious plane incident, Zhi immediately concludes that rescue is unlikely. He secretly constructs an underground burrow, limits his intended group to a small number of reliable survivors, and recruits Josen Ellis as his first ally 6 7.

Zhi’s group exposes Charlotte as a werewolf and kills him near the graveyard. After his companions are massacred and Ellis and Freya are later transformed into aberrant creatures, Zhi accepts power offered by a dying Witch and commits himself to vengeance against those responsible 9 11 12.

Personality

Zhi is intensely pragmatic and survival-driven. On the island, he considers population, food, water, concealment, and the reliability of allies as strategic factors; he is prepared to make brutal choices if he believes they are necessary to survive 6 7 8.

He is also observant and controlled under pressure. He uses deception, traps, and deduction rather than confronting unknown enemies blindly, and he quickly regains his composure after moments of emotional instability 8 9 11.

Despite this ruthlessness, Zhi forms meaningful bonds. He is visibly nervous around Lin, accepts Ellis as a trusted partner, mourns Parker and Lundes after their deaths, and apologizes to Ellis and Freya before killing their transformed bodies 4 6 11 12.

Stranded on an island, Zhi forms a small survival group, builds a hidden base, identifies the presence of demons, and leads the plan that exposes Charlotte as a werewolf 6 7 8 9 10.

After the massacre of his companions, he accepts Witch-derived power, hunts the enemy force, kills transformed captives, and defeats the island’s vampire 11 12.

Pitch Black Operations

As Ming Jian, he kills the regenerated Devil Race member Chelsbei and takes the Purple Mirror from its corpse 25. He later joins Kuo Ming and Huang Ming in the confrontation with the Mi Magic Beast/African Evil God, ultimately defeating Gao'erlufeisiteda and claiming the Source of Control 39 40.
