| First-ring Soul Master | 11 | Absorbed a century-old Datura Snake spirit ring after a severe backlash. The ring was contaminated into a defective, dim yellow ring with white spots, falling between ten and one hundred years in quality. |
Background / History
Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village alongside Bai Shu. Long-term malnutrition left him smaller and thinner than the other children. He spent his days practicing the Mysterious Heaven Skill and caring for his alcoholic father, Tang Hao, leaving him little interaction with Bai Shu before their awakenings. 2
At the village awakening ceremony, Tang San manifested Blue Silver Grass and innate full soul power. Su Yuntao initially dismissed his martial soul as useless and nearly declined to test his spirit power; Bai Shu intervened and requested the test. 2
He enrolled at Notting Academy as a work-study student. Yu Xiaogang examined Tang San's spirit certificate, discovered his twin martial souls, and took him as a disciple. 6 7 9
Tang San accompanied Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest to acquire his first spirit ring. During the absorption of a century-old Datura Snake ring, the death of Ah Yin caused his Blue Silver Grass bloodline to react violently. His soul power ran out of control, tearing his meridians until Tang Hao stabilized him from the shadows. 10 11
Although he survived and completed the absorption, his Blue Silver Grass mutated into a blue-black, barbed, poisonous form, while his first ring became defective. He later found Yu Xiaogang unconscious from snake venom and used bloodletting treatment to save him. 11
Following Tang Hao's death, Tang San returned to Dormitory Seven badly injured. After he refused to participate in the dormitory's customs and spoke condescendingly to the other work-study students, Bai Shu ordered the dormitory to ignore him completely. 17 18
Appearance
At the time of his awakening, Tang San was notably thin and undersized from chronic malnutrition. He wore washed-out coarse clothes that hung loosely from his frame. 2
- Rough skin and a small frame during childhood. 2
- Returned from the Soul Hunting Forest pale, mud-stained, bloodied, and visibly exhausted after his spirit-ring backlash. 18
- His mutated Blue Silver Grass is dark blue-black, covered in barbs, and emits poisonous gas. 11
Personality
Tang San is disciplined and diligent, maintaining daily cultivation through the Mysterious Heaven Skill despite his difficult upbringing. 2 19
He is intensely loyal to Yu Xiaogang, defending his teacher publicly even when other students ridicule the Grandmaster's advice. This loyalty is paired with pride: while injured, he refused to acknowledge Xiao Wu as Dormitory Seven's boss because he considered the dormitory's rules beneath him. 18 20
The failure of his first spirit-ring absorption left him furious and vengeful. Believing someone had acted against him from the shadows, he vowed retaliation with Tang Sect hidden weapons. 11
