Background / History

Rebirth and rise in the Great Wilderness

Zhang Xuelian is the Chosen One, a being whose path is bound to heavenly tribulations. Before her Great Wilderness life, she failed a final tribulation, perished, and was granted rebirth because of her exceptional performance during Heaven’s trials. She was subsequently reborn in the Great Wilderness. 2100

Her talent quickly became legendary. She entered the Spiritual Martial Realm at fifteen, swept through the Great Wilderness in her twenties, led the Zhang family to prominence, and eventually departed the region. Her achievements also elevated Yan Hua Pond from a third-rate force to one comparable to the Five Sects. 131 330

During this era, she rejected every suitor and devoted herself to cultivation, dismissing them with the assessment that they were “not good enough.” 332

Soul portrait and Yang Chen

Before leaving the Great Wilderness, Zhang Xuelian left a portrait containing her soul and stipulated that only a peerless genius could awaken it. Yang Chen fulfilled the requirement at fourteen, reaching the peak of the Body Refining Realm and summoning her soul projection. 131 132

She later used the Mystic Diagram of Dharma Aspect to summon Yang Chen into a soul-space meeting. Snow Lotus Goddess

After reaching the Twelve States, Zhang Xuelian became a disciple of the Taiyi Sect and built a reputation far beyond the Great Wilderness. At the True God Stage, she killed dozens of enemy True God Stage generals in a single campaign, receiving the title Snow Lotus Goddess and earning a permanent statue beside the Fledgling Phoenix Ranking. 1764

Conflict with Elder Yi

Zhang Xuelian’s master, Elder Yi, sought to marry her to Yuan Changsheng. Zhang Xuelian rejected the proposal, citing her lifelong commitment to Yang Chen and divining that she and Yuan Changsheng lacked marital compatibility. 1862

When Elder Yi gave her the choice of accepting the marriage or ending their master-disciple relationship, Zhang Xuelian chose to sever the relationship rather than abandon Yang Chen. Elder Yi later placed her under house arrest. 1862 1990

Hua Wanru and completion

Hua Wanru revealed that she and Zhang Xuelian were originally one person: Zhang Xuelian represented the Chosen One’s light-facing path, while Hua Wanru was her dark side. Their opposition shaped their conflicting choices, including Zhang Xuelian’s decision to marry Yang Chen and Hua Wanru’s desire to kill him. 2100
