"Heh, this is quite a significant development." Outside the battlefield where the two were engaged, a white figure emerged halfway from the depths of the tree shadows.
White Zetsu's body twisted and reorganized like melting wax; his left eye stared excitedly at Itachi's disintegrating Susanoo, while his right eye scanned the chaotic, ruined landscape with indifference.
"I must tell Obito immediately."
White Zetsu's body elongated abruptly, twisting like a white serpent as he burrowed into the ground.
The underground tunnel sealed rapidly behind him, leaving only the faint sound of churning soil.
Relying on his unique sensory abilities, he navigated the intricate subterranean paths, the earth and rocks parting automatically to make way for him.
Moments later, White Zetsu appeared in a dark, damp room.
"Obito, guess what I discovered today!" White Zetsu emerged from the floor, his body quickly returning to human form, his tone brimming with excitement.
Uchiha Obito sat on the seat belonging to the Mizukage, while the real Mizukage, Yagura, stood to the side like a servant, his eyes hollow and vacant.
He looked at this White Zetsu, feeling a vague sense of familiarity.
"Which White Zetsu are you?" Obito saw no shame in asking when he didn't know something.
After all, these White Zetsu all looked nearly identical.
"Ah?" White Zetsu blinked, then, as if possessed by a dramatic actor, burst into tears in the blink of an eye, leaving Obito stunned. "Waaah, I'm so hurt! Little Obito doesn't even recognize me anymore. I was the one who helped you clean up your poop when you were little!"
The expression beneath Obito's mask turned instantly ugly. "Shut up!"
Just as veins began to bulge on Obito's forehead and he contemplated how to dispose of this White Zetsu, the shadows in the corner suddenly twisted like a living thing.
A figure as black as ink slowly emerged—it was Black Zetsu.
Seeing Obito's intent, he quickly intervened. "Obito, this is the White Zetsu assigned to monitor the Uchiha. Don't kill him yet!"
Only then did Uchiha Obito remember who this White Zetsu was.
Damn it, why isn't he dead yet?
"Fine, I'll give you a chance. Tell me what you know. If the intelligence is useful, I might spare you." For the sake of the Eye of the Moon Plan, Uchiha Obito decided to endure it; it wouldn't be too late to kill this White Zetsu after he finished speaking.
White Zetsu instantly stopped crying, his body snapping upright like a spring, his features twisting into a fawning expression. "Wise! Lord Obito has the greatest capacity for tolerance..."
"Cut the useless talk and get to the point." Black Zetsu, standing to the side, grew impatient.
Damn it, I saved you, and you go and flatter Obito?
It seemed this White Zetsu was due for a recycling.
A smile, uglier than his crying face, appeared on White Zetsu's face.
Waaah, you all look down on me, and I'm just too pathetic to do anything about it.
"Speak!" Obito and Black Zetsu shouted in unison.
Startled, White Zetsu trembled slightly and said, "Uchiha... Itachi and Shisui started fighting! Shisui used Kotoamatsukami to alter Itachi's will!"
"Kotoamatsukami altered Itachi's will?!" Obito's voice rose sharply.
"Are you certain you didn't misread it?" Black Zetsu's tone also carried a hint of doubt.
Intimidated by Obito's presence, White Zetsu's body stiffened, and he nodded frantically. "It's the absolute truth!"
Having said his piece, White Zetsu prepared to leave.
These two were too terrifying; playing with poop was much more fun.
"Stop!" Obito manipulated Yagura to appear instantly in front of White Zetsu. The puppet's hollow eyes emitted an eerie blue light, and a water prison condensed in his hands, trapping White Zetsu in the center.
Black Zetsu also attached himself to White Zetsu, his pitch-black tentacles coiling around the creature's neck like venomous snakes. "Who gave you permission to leave? Details! I want to know why they started fighting!"
Choked until his body twisted and deformed, White Zetsu let out intermittent whimpers. "I, I was hiding in a tree hollow! At first... at first, Itachi said Shisui had betrayed Konoha, and then the two of them started fighting."
"Continue!" Black Zetsu's tentacles tightened viciously, leaving marks on White Zetsu's neck that reached the bone. "On what grounds did Itachi conclude Shisui betrayed them? He wouldn't just go mad out of thin air!"
White Zetsu's body emitted a teeth-grinding sound under the constriction of the tentacles. "Th-that... I don't know."
White Zetsu felt very aggrieved; he had only taken over the shift from the previous monitor a few days ago—how could he know what had happened?
"You don't know?" Black Zetsu suddenly detached from the White Zetsu, and the water prison trapping him dissipated as well.
White Zetsu's face lit up with joy, but just as he thought he could leave, Obito's cold voice rang out. "Yagura, do it."
The next moment, White Zetsu felt a bone-chilling cold at his neck.
Clack— Accompanied by a crisp sound, White Zetsu's head, along with half of his cervical spine, was sliced off, tracing an eerie arc through the air.
The head tumbled twice in the air before slamming heavily onto the ground, rolling a few more times until it stopped at Obito's feet.
"Hmph, trash deserves the fate of trash." Obito looked at the head by his feet, his tone filled with disdain.
He gave a light kick, sending White Zetsu's head aside. It struck the wall with a dull thud, then rebounded to roll under Yagura's feet.
Yagura's hollow eyes stared at the head on the ground without any reaction, his hand still held in the posture of having swung the blade.
Obito sat back down in his chair, the metal frame groaning under his weight.
He stroked the edge of his mask, his scarlet Sharingan flickering through the slit. "Itachi concluded Shisui betrayed him... yet was countered and killed by Shisui. Interesting..."
He had originally thought Itachi was a talent and intended to recruit him into the Akatsuki, but now it seemed he was just another piece of trash.
Black Zetsu, standing to the side, did not share Obito's optimism.
Itachi was convinced that Shisui's betrayal of Konoha must mean that something unknown to him had occurred within the Uchiha Clan.
This lack of control over the situation left him deeply unsettled.
Glancing at Obito beside him, Black Zetsu let out a sigh.
Damn it, I shouldn't have chosen this idiot Obito in the first place.
Black Zetsu grumbled inwardly, though his expression remained impassive. He merely offered a reminder in a tone laden with hidden meaning: "Obito, don't underestimate Uchiha Itachi and Shisui. The fact that they are fighting proves that an unexpected change has occurred within the Uchiha Clan."
"Hmph, it doesn't matter. Before these eyes of mine, two pairs of Mangekyo are simply not enough," Obito said confidently.
Black Zetsu's expression darkened.
Seriously? What makes Obito think he can defeat Shisui and Itachi?
Has he already forgotten how he suffered at the hands of Minato Namikaze?
Black Zetsu no longer wished to continue this conversation.
He feared that if he kept talking, he would be unable to resist resurrecting Madara and having him find someone else to execute the Eye of the Moon Plan.
Suppressing the surging irritation in his heart, Black Zetsu allowed his body to melt into the shadows.
Once Black Zetsu's figure had completely vanished into the darkness, the damp room fell into a deathly silence.
Meanwhile, at the Uchiha compound in Konoha Village, Itachi, held in Shisui's arms, slowly opened his eyes.
Kotoamatsukami had already rewritten his will.
"Itachi." Shisui's face remained devoid of expression.
"Brother Shisui..."
