Background / History

Zhao Feng is the son of Zhao Zhiben and the nephew of Zhao Wencai, the dean of the Martial Child Academy. His noble family background gives him influence at the academy, where he and his followers habitually target commoner students. 8 16 17

He initially bullied Zhang He and viewed the latter's return to the academy as an affront. After Zhang He defeated Han Zhao, Zhao Feng personally challenged him with the Through-Back Fist, but was injured by Zhang He's Nerve Flicking Technique. 8 9

Seeking revenge, Zhao Feng accepted his father's plan to obtain a Great Yang Pill and cultivate a True Qi Seed. His father also urged him to pursue Lian Yunbi, seeing a marriage with the Lian family as politically valuable. 10

Zhao Feng later plotted to destroy Zhang He's future by planting stolen goods in Zhang He's room. The scheme failed when the planted items were discovered in Zhao Feng's own room, exposing his involvement to the academy students. 15 16

In a duel immediately afterward, Zhao Feng attempted to force Zhang He into a direct clash in a confined room with the Through-Back Fist. Zhang He met him with Wild Ox Horn and shattered his arm, leaving him unable to train normally for an estimated half-year. 16 18

After recovering and advancing in cultivation, Zhao Feng ordered Zhao Lei to sever Zhang He's tendons before the Martial Child Assessment. Zhao Lei was instead defeated and killed; Zhao Feng did not realize Zhang He was responsible. 29 30 32

Personality

Zhao Feng is arrogant, vindictive, and intensely class-conscious. He repeatedly dismisses Zhang He as a “lowly commoner” and treats Zhang He's success as an insult to noble status. 10 29 35

He favors indirect retaliation when open confrontation fails. His schemes include framing Zhang He for theft, sending Zhao Lei to cripple him, and planning to humiliate him publicly through an extravagant birthday gift for Lian Yunbi. 15 29 50

Despite his cruelty, Zhao Feng is cautious when powerful figures are involved. He suppresses accusations of cheating after Zhang He wins the Martial Child Assessment because challenging the result would mean challenging Prince Qu and the proctors. 35
