The Battle of Kannabi Bridge can be called the origin of all evil in the Naruto world, indirectly leading to the death of Rin and countless tragedies.
Obito, having lost Rin, was deceived by a deceiver who had himself been deceived. He went on to commit a series of deranged acts, such as binding his master's wife, sticking heat patches on an infant, and asking his master to choose between saving the mother or the child.
To put it nicely, he spent his whole life for Rin; to put it bluntly, he didn't have an anti-fraud app installed and was so thoroughly swindled that he didn't even have his eyeballs left in the end.
"If I want to change everything, I need sufficient power. It's time to improve my strength," Genye muttered to himself after returning home.
Next, he solemnly performed a series of superstitious activities, including bathing and burning incense, praying to Lesser Lord Kusanali, and performing the Hinokami Kagura dance.
Only then did he rush out in a hurry to find his tool.
"I've made full preparations this time. The card-pulling success rate is bound to double!" Genye was full of confidence.
To prevent his body from recovering too quickly, Genye hadn't performed any replications for the past two years. The 10-pull he had saved up should be enough for his Kekkei Genkai to complete its transformation!
"Hehehe, here I come, Uncle Hyuga Hizashi~"
The replication target Genye had chosen was Hyuga Hizashi. Although he had a better relationship with Mei, he felt that Hizashi's bloodline would be stronger.
After circling the Hyuga clan compound several times, Hizashi's icon finally popped up on the system interface, and Genye immediately chose to replicate.
"System, give me a--ten! pull! right now!" Genye said boldly.
[Good luck is coming, wishing you good luck~~~]
Amidst the impassioned BGM, the system interface began to scroll, rapidly popping up one notification after another.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for replicating the skill "Gentle Fist"!]*3
[Congratulations to the host for replicating the skill "Top-tier Cooking"!]
[Congratulations to the host for replicating the skill "Gentle Fist Art: Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms"!]
[Congratulations to the host for replicating the Kekkei Genkai "Byakugan"!]*4
[Congratulations to the host for replicating the "Physique" attribute! The host's current physique is 8, equivalent to the level of an elite Jonin!]
As all ten replication messages popped up, a terrifying force surged from the depths of Genye's soul, instantly sweeping through his entire body.
If the previous power had been like a warm current, what surged this time was scorching, boiling water that made Genye break out in a sweat all over.
He felt as if he were soaking in magma; his bones, muscles, and meridians felt as though they were being melted by the high temperature, constantly repeating the process of dissolution and reconstruction.
Genye endured the pain, pretending nothing was wrong as he returned home, terrified of anyone noticing anything unusual.
During the transformation process, the Caged Bird Seal on his forehead "burned" up, disappearing without a trace as if it were snow melting in spring.
How could a cage ever bind a phoenix reborn from the ashes?
Even if the phoenix didn't care, the temperature it inadvertently released was enough to instantly burn the cage to nothingness.
"This transformation is really intense, much more violent than before!" Genye said to himself with a bitter smile.
If it weren't for the fact that he had been frequently snapping his meridians and doing resilience training over the past two years, this transformation might have killed him with pain!
Fortunately, the transformation process was not long, and after a dozen minutes, the power vanished without a trace.
The system soon popped up new notifications.
[Ding, transformation complete. The host's Kekkei Genkai has been upgraded to a Kekkei Tota!]
[The host has unlocked "Atavistic Byakugan". After completing the bloodline puzzle, you can enter the next stage.]
[The host has awakened the Dojutsu "Omoikane".]
[Host's physique +1, current physique is 9, already reaching the level of a Kage in this era.]
[As a reward for the ten-pull, the system has integrated and deduced a new skill for the host: "Gentle Fist: Blast".]
Looking at the new notifications, Genye's eyes went wide: "Is this the legendary 'hitting the jackpot'?"
Kekkei Tota!
Exclusive Dojutsu!
Kage-level physique!
"Have I just stumbled onto the threshold of the Kage level?" Genye looked at his hands, feeling a sense of unreality.
"Right, let me see what my new Dojutsu is first!"
Thinking of this, Genye hurriedly clicked on the description of his Dojutsu.
[Omoikane: A space-time Dojutsu. The host can teleport to any location within the range of their vision.]
"Holy crap, it really is a space-time Dojutsu!" Genye was so excited he did a shoulder-shaking dance on the spot.
Although it couldn't compare to the dual Kamui, he was already satisfied, because his range of vision was huge!
Genye closed his eyes, and his field of vision, which was already far beyond that of the Hyuga clansmen, surged again, reaching a terrifying five kilometers!
"It's equivalent to a Flying Thunder God that doesn't require a seal within five kilometers. Although I don't know what the consumption is yet, it's awesome!"
"My physique and Gentle Fist have also been upgraded again. My meridians are tough as nails now; I shouldn't have to worry about being incapacitated the moment I make a move anymore!"
Genye was very satisfied with this improvement. It seemed his previous preparations hadn't been in vain!
"But, what does this 'completing the bloodline puzzle' mean?" Genye asked the system, feeling a bit confused.
[Ding, please explore for yourself, Host!] the system replied.
"Tch, trying to be all mysterious," Genye muttered, curling his lip.
He quickly pushed the matter to the back of his mind, excitedly beginning to test his new dōjutsu.
This eye technique is insane! No wind-up, minimal chakra consumption—I could easily use this a dozen times a day!
After roughly gauging the limits of his new ability, Genye took out a specially prepared potion and redrew the Caged Bird Seal on his forehead.
He wasn't invincible yet; for the sake of caution, he would keep a low profile for another two years.
"With this new dōjutsu, I can enter and exit the village without a sound. That will certainly make my future plans much easier."
Genye murmured to himself as he unfolded the map on his table, where a few bold characters were written: "Land of Grass, Kannabi Bridge."
Outside Konoha, on a lush, grassy field, Minato led his three students toward the border of the Land of Fire.
"Konoha's combat strength is severely lacking right now. To maximize our mission efficiency, we will split into two groups for the next phase of our operation."
Minato spoke while walking, glancing back at his three students with a sense of helplessness in his heart.
In reality, some of Konoha's major clans still had reserves, but they spent their time passing the buck and paying lip service to orders. The Third Hokage was simply too benevolent, which had left the village with no one to call upon.
"Split into two groups?" Obito repeated, looking confused.
"Correct," Minato nodded. "I will act alone, while the three of you will execute the mission as a squad. Kakashi will serve as the team leader."
"Why does that guy get to be the leader?" Obito turned his head away, muttering in protest.
"Because as of today, Kakashi is a Jōnin, just like me," Minato explained with a smile.
"That's right, Obito. Didn't I discuss this with you earlier? We even agreed to get Kakashi a gift," Rin added in agreement.
Kakashi, who was walking in front, turned around and said indifferently, "Sorry, the wind was a bit loud just now. I didn't catch what you were saying."
"Kakashi, this is for you."
Minato smiled, pulled a kunai from his ninja tool pouch, and tossed it to Kakashi.
"This is a custom-made kunai. It's a bit heavy, but once you get used to it, you'll find it very handy."
"Thank you." Kakashi caught the kunai and casually tucked it into his waistband.
"I brought this—a personal medical kit. Please, take it."
As she spoke, Rin took a small medical box from her bag and handed it to Kakashi with a bright smile.
"Thanks." Kakashi took the kit with his left hand, shifted his gaze to Obito, and held out his right hand with an expressionless face.
Obito curled his lip, pulled a book from his tunic, and slapped it into Kakashi's hand.
"Here, this is my favorite book. Consider it a gift."
"Oh?"
Perhaps it was because the cover looked a bit strange, but the moment Kakashi took the book, he felt an urge to flip it open and take a look.
Rin leaned in curiously, her eyes wide, wanting to see what kind of content was in Obito's favorite book.
"Don't look!" Obito was so terrified his soul nearly left his body. He forcibly pressed down on Kakashi's hand and shouted, "You have to read this book with a calm mind to truly appreciate its beauty! I suggest you wait until you finish the mission, go home, and take a bath before you read it!"
"Oh." Kakashi nodded, put the book away, and looked at Obito. "Although this doesn't seem like the type of book I'd usually enjoy, thanks anyway."
"Hmm..." Rin stared suspiciously at Obito for a long time, feeling like something was off, but she ultimately decided not to press the issue.
Obito breathed a secret sigh of relief, inwardly complaining about the terrible idea Genye had given him.
"Alright, we're nearing the border. Let me brief you on the mission."
Minato stopped, spread a military map out on a rock, and gestured for his three disciples to gather around.
"This is the route the Iwagakure ninja are using to invade the Land of Grass."
Minato's finger traced a line on the map, moving steadily across it.
"Your mission is to infiltrate the enemy's rear and destroy this bridge, which Iwagakure is using to transport supplies."
As he spoke, Minato tapped his finger heavily on the icon representing the bridge on the map.
The three of them followed Minato's finger to the name of the bridge: Kannabi Bridge.
