Background / History

Minato was regarded as Konoha’s outstanding young powerhouse during the Third Shinobi World War, when the village otherwise appeared to lack a rising generation of prominent combatants. Hiruzen entrusted him with responding to worsening border pressure from Iwagakure and Kumogakure. 14 17

He became the mentor of Kakashi, Obito, and Rin. During the Kannabi Bridge operation, he divided his forces so that he could act independently while Kakashi led the three-person squad in infiltrating enemy territory and destroying Iwagakure’s supply bridge. 28

Minato later became the Fourth Hokage. His elevation gave Obito hope that Minato could support Xuanye against the Hyuga Main Family, though Xuanye dismissed the idea, believing Minato had little practical authority. 34

Minato and Kushina had a son, Naruto. During the Nine-Tails attack, Uchiha Xia abducted Naruto, extracted the Nine-Tails from Kushina, and used it to assault Konoha. Minato secured Naruto and Kushina, fought Xia, severed her control over the beast, and returned to help protect the village. 36 37

When Kushina was too weak to reseal the Nine-Tails, Minato prepared to use the Dead Demon Consuming Seal and preserve Kushina’s remaining chakra in Naruto. Genye’s intervention instead forced the Nine-Tails back into Kushina, allowing Minato, Kushina, and Naruto to survive. 38 39

Minato is calm, considerate, and analytical under pressure. He treats Genye gently after the latter’s hospitalization, praising his courage while privately concluding that Genye’s account of defeating two Seven Ninja Swordsmen was unreliable. 25
