Chapter Fifteen
Introduction to Nature Wizards and From Nature Novice to Master of the Earth were both easy to understand and highly suitable for newcomers like Lynn to learn the basics of Nature Wizards.
They not only systematically introduced the core concepts of Nature Wizards, but also compared the research directions of other wizard types, giving Lynn a more comprehensive understanding of the entire Wizard World.
"Wizards pursue different fields of research. The difficulty of cultivation, the resources consumed, and even the eventual rewards can vary enormously."
Late at night, Lynn gently pushed open the window. The night was ink-black, the bright moon hung high overhead, and a cool breeze drifted in, brushing across his face with a touch of freshness and tranquility.
His gaze fell on the distance as he pondered what he had just learned.
Elemental Wizards were the most mainstream path in the Wizard World.
Natural elements such as fire, ice, and lightning could be found everywhere. Research materials were relatively cheap, making this path highly cost-effective.
Although Elemental Wizards were not particularly outstanding in any aspect of cultivation, they also rarely had fatal weaknesses. They followed a balanced path and were stable, reliable, and widely accepted.
Bloodline Wizards, on the other hand, were completely different.
Bloodline Wizards followed a path with an extremely high starting point but a limited upper ceiling.
By extracting the blood of powerful magical beasts, they could rapidly strengthen themselves. If they obtained the blood of high-level magical beasts, Bloodline Wizards could reach extremely high realms in a short period, cultivating far faster than other types of wizards.
However, such convenience did not come without a price—the growth limit of Bloodline Wizards was practically predetermined.
Unless they could further purify the bloodline within their bodies and condense it to a higher level, they would remain forever stuck at a particular realm.
Nature Wizards, meanwhile, were an entirely different kind of existence.
This was precisely the path Lynn had chosen.
The cultivation of Nature Wizards during the apprentice stage was quite difficult.
To nurture the Seed of Life, he had to devote more than eighty percent of his mental power to nourishing it. He could not freely use his mental power to cast spells, leaving his combat strength far inferior to that of other wizards at the same stage.
But once he successfully advanced to become an Official Wizard and caused the Seed of Life to bloom and sprout, he would gain the powerful abilities unique to Nature Wizards.
Such potential was difficult for other wizard types to match.
After the Seed of Life bloomed and sprouted, it would have been entirely nourished and controlled by the Nature Wizard's mental power throughout its growth.
Therefore, it would not develop an independent consciousness. Instead, it would directly merge with the Nature Wizard's consciousness.
In terms from Lynn's previous life, this Seed of Life had effectively been "possessed" by the wizard.
By Lynn's understanding, it was like a wizard gaining a "second primordial spirit" or a "second nascent soul," greatly enhancing the circulation of mental power and spellcasting ability.
And after every Seed of Life sprouted, it would also come with a unique innate secret technique!
From the books, Lynn learned that Official Wizards could effortlessly crush Wizard Apprentices not only because of the vast difference in mental power levels, but also because of another key factor—the Permanent Spell Mark.
When a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice successfully advanced to become an Official Wizard, a Permanent Spell Mark would condense within their body.
This mark could transform into a wizard's innate ability, becoming an instinctive spell that could continuously affect the wizard's entire body.
For example, some wizards' innate marks caused them to automatically emit an icy aura or form a fiery shield, functioning without any additional consumption of mental power.
More importantly, because of their Permanent Spell Marks, Official Wizards naturally emitted energy radiation from their bodies.
This radiation was not only a symbol of a wizard's formidable power, but also a deadly threat to ordinary people. The bodies of mortals exposed to it for long periods would gradually collapse beyond recovery.
However, the greatest difference between Nature Wizards and other wizards was that, in addition to gaining a Permanent Spell Mark, they also gained a unique innate secret technique from the blooming of their Seed of Life.
This meant that at the Official Wizard stage, Nature Wizards possessed one more powerful means than other wizards!
This quality of building up strength before erupting was the greatest charm of Nature Wizards.
Although the Wizard Apprentice stage was extraordinarily difficult, with the Seed of Life occupying most of their mental power and leaving them extremely weak in battle.
Once they successfully advanced to become Official Wizards, the blooming of the Seed of Life would grant them unparalleled advantages.
What deserved even more attention was that the Seed of Life was not merely "taking up space" during the Wizard Apprentice stage.
Although it imprisoned eighty percent of their mental power, the Seed of Life could also actively unleash certain special methods when necessary.
It was simply that, compared to conventional spells, using the Seed of Life caused greater mental power consumption.
Lynn put down the book and rubbed his brow, contemplating its details.
"The book mentions that there seems to be some proportional relationship between a spell's power and its mental power consumption, but it doesn't explain it clearly. Perhaps I should find a chance to ask Colin or Sonia..."
A glint of inquiry flashed through Lynn's eyes.
He vaguely felt that if he could calculate the difference in mental power consumption between the Seed of Life's methods and ordinary spells, he might be able to plan his future direction and combat strategies more reasonably.
However, Lynn was disappointed.
He stayed in his room for three whole days, yet still received no word from Sonia.
Instead, Remy came to visit him.
Remy told him that Sonia had been busy recently and could not meet with him for the time being.
As for Lynn's work arrangements, he had been assigned to the Potion Garden like Remy, where he would be responsible for the daily maintenance of potions.
The Potion Garden was an enclosed greenhouse space, with rows upon rows of strange magical herbs growing within.
These magical herbs had bizarre shapes and distinctive scents. Some emitted a sharp, spicy fragrance, while others carried a faint stench of decay. Yet Lynn could sense that all of them contained a peculiar life energy.
Lynn followed Remy along the paths between the garden plots. As they walked, Remy explained things to him.
"You should spend more time reading Introduction to Potion Maintenance whenever you can and familiarize yourself with the maintenance methods inside. Our work isn't really complicated. We mainly use mental power to inspect the life conditions of these magical herbs and determine whether they need watering, pest removal, or nutrient potions. We make roughly two rounds a day, each taking about four hours." (Note: a day has twenty-four hours.)
"That's eight hours at minimum. Add some other miscellaneous chores, and we basically have to work around ten hours every day."
Remy explained casually.
Hearing this, Lynn's eyes widened, and he blurted out:
"Ten hours? And that doesn't count as troublesome?"
Remy was momentarily stunned, then revealed a slightly puzzled expression.
"At The Furnace, this already counts as a pretty easy job, especially for newcomers like us. You know, some new apprentices in the Alchemy Department have to forge iron for at least twelve hours a day. They also need to use mental power to observe changes in the materials, and they can't relax for even a moment during the process."
Remy's words left Lynn speechless.
He subconsciously glanced at the strange magical herbs throughout the Potion Garden and suddenly realized that so-called "easy" work was probably only easy by comparison.
In truth, Remy was extremely curious about Lynn.
Especially when Sonia had asked him to work together with Lynn, he had become even more puzzled.
Remy knew that he had only been assigned to such an "easy" post in the Potion Garden after pulling strings and putting in considerable effort.
Yet Lynn, a complete newcomer, had somehow been placed directly in the same job as him. That was clearly unexpected.
Lynn shrugged and sighed helplessly.
"All right, so this counts as an easy job..."
There was something he did not know whether he should say. Now, he finally understood the true meaning behind the name "The Furnace."
The Furnace was a massive machine that operated for that great Dark Wizard.
And within this machine, every apprentice and every wizard was an indispensable gear.
Each of them had to offer their strength to keep The Furnace running, burning their time and spirit until their value had been thoroughly forged out!
