Background / History
The Furnace was established as the territory of a Dark Wizard, in contrast to the High Tower territories of White Wizards. Its full name, the Spirit Eye Furnace, reflects its nature as a Wizard Tower rather than a conventional academy. 1 8 55
Under the Lord of the Furnace, the faction expanded the former Duchy of Aeluria into the Kingdom of Aeluria by conquering surrounding states. It ultimately became a Level 4 faction with the authority to direct the kingdom's affairs. 42
Rather than primarily educating apprentices, the Furnace recruited them to replenish its labor force and maintain its production. New arrivals were assigned to departments according to need, worked for Furnace points, and remained bound by sorcerous contracts. 8 12 15
Its resource model depended on recurring external wars. Roughly every decade, the Furnace attacked neighboring supernatural factions to seize resources and reduce its own surplus population of apprentices and wizards. 8 18 23
During the Emerald Island Forest campaign, Astrid used the Lord's authority to conscript even official wizards' disciples. After the campaign against the Night Shadow Bunker and Bitter Heart Sect faltered, the Lord recalled his forces, transported the entire Furnace to the battlefield, and used the Wizard Tower to break the forest's sorcerous seal. 26 67 71 73
The Furnace later ceased to be a secure center of power after the Spirit Eye Wizard's disappearance. Its former subordinate Great Wizards and independent wizards established competing factions, while the Kingdom of Aeluria fell into internal turmoil. 211 216
Layout and Infrastructure
| Area / System | Function |
|---|---|
| Outer Ring and Beast Pen | The outer ring housed facilities for capturing and raising magical beasts, including Earth Rhino Beasts used in apprentice assessments. 1 7 |
| Living District | A central residential district of buildings and plazas for wizards and apprentices; it included administrative reception facilities and maps of the Furnace's departments. 7 |
| Departments | Apprentices were distributed among work divisions such as the Potion Department, Alchemy Department, and Potion Garden rather than enrolled in a unified curriculum. 7 8 13 |
| Core High Tower | The original Wizard Tower at the Furnace's center, later surrounded by additional regions. Its summit hall contained the Lord's throne, the Spirit of the Furnace mural, and four elemental pillars. 55 68 |
| Spirit of the Furnace | A soul fragment of the Lord of the Furnace refined into the Tower's core will. It controlled the central array, protective formations, and core authority. 55 221 |
| Four elemental reserves | Earth, water, fire, and wind energy reserves used to power major operations, including inter-realm passage construction and teleportation. 55 70 |
| Teleportation system | The Spirit Eye Furnace could stabilize spatial passages between realms; the Lord later moved the entire Furnace to the Emerald Island Forest battlefield. 55 71 |
Organization and Practices
Apprentice System
- The Furnace recruited apprentices annually, but admission quotas and mortality rates varied with available resources. During scarcity, newcomers without patrons were unlikely to survive assessment. 3 8
- Apprentices earned Furnace points through work and exchanged them for cultivation resources, materials, and knowledge. 12
- Departments received apprentices as laborers and trainees; maintaining the Furnace's production was their primary obligation. 8 15
- The Master-Servant Contract compelled apprentices to defend and fight for the Furnace. Breach triggered a curse described as worse than death. 26 33
- War merits could be exchanged for scarce resources and, in exceptional cases, a means to dissolve the Furnace contract. 74 92
Warfare
- Furnace Wars were recurring campaigns used to plunder external resources and cull weak internal personnel. 8 18
- Official wizards commanded the battlefield, while apprentices were routinely deployed as expendable forces. 18 33
- During the assault on the Night Shadow Bunker, Astrid ordered apprentices to enter the Anti-Energy Array first so they would absorb its negative-energy erosion. 33
- The Furnace combined magical beasts, apprentice formations, official wizards, and coordinated warfare methods rather than relying solely on individual spellcasting. 21 37
- In the Emerald Island Forest crisis, the Lord offered escalating rewards and bodily restoration for survivors, leading to more than ten thousand apprentice deaths within three months. 67
Wizard Tower Function
- As a Wizard Tower, the Spirit Eye Furnace amplified its Morning Star master's power; greater numbers of resident wizards and deeper foundations increased that effect. 55
- The Furnace actively absorbed outside official wizards instead of relying solely on internally cultivated personnel. This expanded its strength quickly but created a loyalty risk during crises. 55
- To compensate for that vulnerability, the Lord created the Spirit of the Furnace from part of his own soul, ensuring direct control over the Tower's central functions. 55
Relationships
- Lord of the Furnace / Spirit Eye Wizard — Founder and master of the Spirit Eye Furnace; created the Spirit of the Furnace from a soul fragment and later risked the Tower's power to confront the Emerald Island Forest crisis. 55 67 105
- Spirit of the Furnace — The Tower's core will and controller of its central arrays, teleportation functions, and core authority. 55 70 221
- Astrid — The Furnace's “Little Princess,” the Lord's biological daughter and soul-fragment vessel; she received full command authority over the Furnace War and could inscribe contracts as Party A. 26 83 106
- White Heart Tower Master — A Level 4 ally who coordinated with the Lord during the Emerald Island Forest crisis; their contract restricted them from acting openly against one another. 55 67 72
- Kingdom of Aeluria — The state controlled and expanded under the Furnace's power; its stability deteriorated after the Spirit Eye Wizard disappeared. 42 211
- Night Shadow Bunker and Bitter Heart Sect — Major opponents during the Furnace War; their counterattack in the Emerald Island Forest turned the campaign into a prolonged crisis. 27 74
- Lynn Cole — Former contracted apprentice and Potion Garden worker who ultimately dissolved his Master-Servant Contract through a battle-merit exchange. 13 92
Terminology
- “Furnace” is also a general term for a Dark Wizard territory; the corresponding White Wizard territory is called a High Tower. 8
- The specific Furnace associated with Lynn's early life is the Spirit Eye Furnace, not the separate Furnace Stone organization. 55 120
- Furnace Stone, Abyss Furnace, Shadow Furnace, and Furnace Sanctuary are later identified as the Four Great Furnaces of the Black Wizard Territory, each backed by a power beyond the Morning Star level. 220 320
