Chapter Nineteen
"Riley Robert!"
Lynn fixed his gaze firmly on the man.
The other man had long golden hair and a slender build, and he did indeed look very much like Russell.
However, what put Lynn most on guard was the heavy pressure radiating from Riley.
A thought flashed through his mind, and he immediately concluded that the man was very likely a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice!
Even so, Lynn showed no trace of panic.
He was currently in the core area of The Furnace, the territory of the Lord of the Furnace.
In this area, no one dared cause trouble lightly.
Even a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice—or even an Official Wizard—would likely only be courting death if they dared make trouble here.
"Hm? You've got quite a few connections, kid. You even know my name."
Riley sneered, his eyes flashing with undisguised malice and killing intent.
If they had not been in such a special location, Lynn was certain Riley would have attacked immediately.
In truth, Lynn had realized Riley had set his sights on him the moment he received the transfer order from the Alchemy Department.
The war at The Furnace had temporarily kept Riley from coming to trouble him, but Lynn knew the other man was nothing more than a ticking time bomb that would strike sooner or later.
Running into Riley in the core area was actually a good thing.
At least here, Riley could not act so easily.
And Lynn had finally seen this enemy, learning both his appearance and strength, which would help him guard against him in the future.
Their gazes clashed, and the air filled with a suffocating tension.
But Riley knew he could do nothing to Lynn here. After sneering, he turned and left with the other two.
Lynn remained where he was, watching their retreating backs. Though he felt some pressure, it was not overwhelming.
Even if The Furnace had been at peace, Riley would not have had much chance to come to the Potion Garden and cause him trouble.
Besides, they were currently at war. A Level 3 Wizard Apprentice from the Alchemy Department like Riley would most likely be sent to the front lines.
Whether Riley could even survive the battlefield was uncertain.
"Still, it's best to be careful."
Lynn considered the matter calmly, his eyes sharpening.
Though he had not been frightened by the other man's threat, he knew he needed to calculate the relevant data for his mental power and wizardry as soon as possible. Only by understanding his true strength could he form an accurate judgment of a wizard's combat power.
Lynn waited quietly in the hall. The identity badge in his hand trembled slightly, then sent him a notice: the Spell Testing Room he had reserved was ready.
He rose and headed toward one of the most basic Spell Testing Rooms. He pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The door automatically shut behind him with a click, while the walls of the room glowed with a soft light.
The room was not spacious. Its surrounding walls were covered in intricate runes and ancient spell formations.
A dummy stood in the center. It was completely black, with faint glimmers of light flickering across its surface.
Not far from the entrance stood a stone tablet emitting a weak glow, its surface engraved with ancient writing.
"The power of wizardry is directly related to the amount of mental power released."
"Wizardry has basic activation standards. Mental power must reach the minimum requirement before it can be cast. If this standard is exceeded, the additional mental power will further enhance the spell's power."
"The great ancient wizards established a unified scale of energy long ago, known as a 'degree.'"
"One degree of power is equivalent to the total damage produced by activating one standard unit of Magic Fire Stone."
Lynn was slightly stunned after reading the writing on the stone tablet. Magic Fire Stone.
He remembered reading about Magic Fire Stones in a book.
They were an extremely rare type of energy source stone. Though they were also a kind of Magic Stone, they came from deep within volcanoes, absorbing fire particles from magma and gradually transforming into their current form over countless years.
The special thing about Magic Fire Stones was that once activated, they were like a detonated bomb, capable of inflicting terrifying damage.
For this reason, Magic Fire Stones were not only extremely precious but also highly dangerous. Although they possessed the tradable nature of Magic Stones, few people used them for trade.
Lynn took a deep breath and quietly considered this information.
"Use wizardry to attack the dummy. The scale beside it can quantify its power."
Lynn focused on the markings on the stone tablet and gradually understood the Spell Testing Room's function and method of use.
"I don't have many offensive methods. Zero-Ring beginner spells like Daze Spell and Breath Concealment are basically incapable of causing much damage..."
The essence of wizardry was for wizards to use mental power to draw upon the energy particles between heaven and earth, releasing spells and forming terrifying power.
Mental power was like a lever. Wizards used that lever to move the energy hidden between heaven and earth, unleashing tremendous force.
A pure release of mental power was often incapable of causing fatal damage unless one had cultivated certain special wizardry.
And Zero-Ring wizardry like Daze Spell was clearly not among them.
"In seven days, I've only brought Fireball Spell to the beginner level. Ice Arrow is still locked..."
Lynn frowned slightly as he considered his current situation.
"In that case, I'll test Fireball Spell first."
He took a deep breath and focused. The mental power accumulated within him was like a flood poised to burst forth, eager to move.
Inside Lynn's mental domain, intense energy fluctuations churned.
Beyond that overflowing mental power, he could also clearly sense a warm presence.
It was a Seed of Life—none other than the Ivgried his teacher Rosalind had given him.
The seed had now undergone subtle changes. Perhaps due to Lynn's constant nourishment, it had gradually become plumper and begun to emit faint traces of life, as though it possessed a pulse of its own.
Ivgried rested at the very center of his mental domain, like a dazzling heart.
Centered on its own existence, it drew in the surrounding mental power and firmly locked away eighty percent of the energy in Lynn's mental domain.
As a result, Lynn could only use the remaining twenty percent of his mental power to cast wizardry.
Though limited, it was enough for him to attempt some basic spellcasting.
"At least I don't need to worry about fainting from overusing my mental power, hehe..."
Feeling Ivgried's domineering nature, Lynn mocked himself.
"I hope the casting requirements for Fireball Spell can be met with this limited mental power."
Lynn took another deep breath, focused his mind, and swiftly mobilized that remaining twenty percent of mental power.
Following Fireball Spell's casting method, he began resonating with the fire elemental particles between heaven and earth.
In an instant, an invisible bridge formed between Lynn's consciousness and the energy outside. As though answering a summons, fire elements began to gather.
At the same time, Lynn's lips moved slightly as he softly recited several unusual words.
This was not a language used for daily communication, but Wizard Script.
Wizard Script differed from ordinary language. Speaking even a single word required a certain amount of mental power.
For that reason, even wizards rarely used Wizard Script in daily conversation, instead speaking ordinary languages.
Wizard Script was a phonetic writing system, with every word formed from combinations of twenty-four meditation runes closely related to mental power.
Thus, every word spoken required interaction with those mental meditation runes, making it quite mentally exhausting.
At that moment, Lynn softly recited several slightly unfamiliar words—though his Wizard Script was not fluent, it was enough to form the incantation for Fireball Spell.
