Marcus was a fifth-year Slytherin prefect when Devero Alexander was sorted into Slytherin. Unlike most of the house, he welcomed Devero warmly, praised his early command of the Disarming Charm, and advised him that modesty would not earn respect in Slytherin. He also explained that the top student in each year could receive access to otherwise restricted places within Hogwarts. 20
