Chapter 5: Master Roshi's Special Training
Following a series of spectacular and challenging adventures, the heroic and dauntless deeds of Sun Wukong spread rapidly across the vast Dragon Ball World like a gentle yet vibrant spring breeze. His fame grew increasingly bright, much like a dazzling star in the night sky, drawing the attention of many. However, despite the remarkable achievements Sun Wukong had already attained, he remained keenly aware in the depths of his heart that his strength, compared to those who truly stood at the pinnacle, still had room for growth as vast as the boundless universe.
In order to achieve a more powerful breakthrough and elevate his strength to an unprecedented new height, Sun Wukong pondered and weighed his options for a long time. Ultimately, with unwavering determination, he resolutely decided to seek out the legendary and renowned Master Roshi, filled with earnest hope that he might receive professional, unique training and meticulous guidance.
After enduring countless hardships and overcoming numerous obstacles, Sun Wukong finally arrived at Master Roshi's tranquil and mysterious dwelling. Upon entering, he saw Master Roshi lying comfortably on an old, weathered rocking chair. The master's eyes were closed, and he was fully immersed in the warmth of the gentle sunlight, as if the clamor of the world had nothing to do with him. With immense respect and anticipation, Sun Wukong stepped forward with a light yet firm gait and said respectfully, "Master Roshi, I am well aware of the many shortcomings and flaws in my martial arts. I have a deep desire to receive your careful training and guidance so that I may become stronger. I implore you to have mercy and help me!" His voice was crisp, loud, and resolute, his eyes revealing immense sincerity and a burning thirst for power.
Hearing this earnest plea, Master Roshi slowly opened one eye and scrutinized Sun Wukong from head to toe with a gaze that seemed casual but was actually filled with careful assessment. He thought to himself: This kid looks full of vitality and infinite potential, but whether he has real substance and solid skills remains to be seen; I must put him to the test. Feigning indifference, Master Roshi said nonchalantly, "Hmph, you want me to train you? That is no easy task. You must first show me whether you have the qualifications to make me take you on."
Upon hearing this, Sun Wukong showed no signs of retreat or hesitation. Instead, his expression grew even more determined, and his eyes shone brightly as he said, "Master Roshi, please rest assured, I will do my absolute best to pass your trials. No matter how difficult or dangerous the road ahead may be, I will never give up!" Within his small frame seemed to lie a determination as deep as the endless ocean and immense, unstoppable courage.
Seeing this, Master Roshi slowly stood up, stretched his limbs—which were slightly stiff from his long rest—and said in a voice as resonant as a bell, "Very well, kid. First, spar with me so I can personally feel what you're capable of."
Sun Wukong's eyes lit up with excitement, like two brilliant stars suddenly ignited. He immediately took a spirited stance, focusing all his attention on the attack he expected from Master Roshi. However, to his utter surprise, Master Roshi merely threw a seemingly light, effortless punch. A surging, overwhelming force struck like a tidal wave, and Sun Wukong was sent flying like a fragile leaf, crashing heavily into the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust. He scrambled up quickly, brushed the dirt off his body, and despite the rough landing, he felt no discouragement or frustration; instead, his fighting spirit burned as brightly as ever.
Watching Sun Wukong's tenacious and unyielding display, Master Roshi couldn't help but chuckle inwardly: This kid is quite tough; he's actually rather interesting. But aloud, he remained merciless: "With such meager and shallow skills, you are still far from ready. You are nowhere near qualified for me to waste my time and effort training you."
Sun Wukong scratched his head, his face still beaming with a warm, radiant smile as he said, "Master Roshi, your strength is truly profound, like a towering mountain I cannot hope to surpass. But I will not be discouraged by this; I will continue to work twice as hard and keep improving myself!" His tone was filled with deep admiration for Master Roshi and firm encouragement for his own future growth.
In the days that followed, Master Roshi put Sun Wukong through a devilishly strict and brutal special training regimen. Whether it was the seemingly endless and arduous running, the push-ups that required immense endurance and willpower, or the heavy weight-bearing training that felt as if it would crush his spine, Sun Wukong gritted his teeth and persisted in silence. Every time a session ended, he was gasping for air, drenched in sweat as if he had just emerged from a battle of life and death, yet he never uttered a single word of complaint or retreat.
One day, Master Roshi pointed to a massive boulder that stood like a small mountain and said to Sun Wukong with a stern expression, "Kid, go lift that rock." Sun Wukong rushed forward like an arrow released from a bow, exerting all his strength until every muscle was strained to the limit. Yet, the rock remained as rooted to the earth as if it were part of the ground, seemingly mocking his overestimation of his own abilities. Watching from the side, Master Roshi couldn't help but scoff, "With such a pathetic amount of strength, you dream of becoming stronger? That is nothing but a pipe dream!"
Sun Wukong's face turned bright red, like a ripe apple, and his eyes flashed with a stubborn, unyielding light. He took another deep breath, tensed his muscles until they felt like steel, and poured the very last ounce of his strength into one final effort. Finally, the stubborn rock shifted just a fraction. He panted heavily, his breath sounding like a bellows, but his tone was as firm as iron: "Master Roshi, I firmly believe that I can do it!"
A flicker of imperceptible appreciation crossed Master Roshi's eyes, but he kept a straight face and said sternly, "This is nothing. You are still a long way from success. Keep working!"
During an intense sparring session, Sun Wukong, believing his skills had improved significantly after his hard work, confidently launched an active attack against Master Roshi. Master Roshi, however, moved like a phantom, dodging Sun Wukong's rapid-fire assault with ease. He seized an opening, landed a kick, and sent Sun Wukong sprawling into the dirt.
Lying on the ground, Sun Wukong felt no annoyance or dissatisfaction. Instead, he said with a grin, "Master Roshi, you are truly extraordinary. I know well that I still have much to learn, and I will continue to study hard and refine my techniques."
Seeing Sun Wukong's never-say-die attitude and optimistic spirit, Master Roshi felt very satisfied and nodded to himself, acknowledging his student's character.
After a long and arduous period of special training, Master Roshi felt the time was ripe to test the fruits of Sun Wukong's labor. He carefully selected a powerful and renowned opponent for Sun Wukong to face.
When the opponent first stepped into the ring and saw Sun Wukong's somewhat youthful and inexperienced appearance, he looked down on him with disdain, not believing for a second that the boy could pose any real threat. After a few exchanges, Sun Wukong feigned weakness, stumbling back and appearing completely overwhelmed.
Master Roshi shouted from the sidelines, "Sun Wukong, if this is all you've got, then you have disappointed me to the core!"
Hearing Master Roshi's words, the opponent grew even more arrogant, believing victory was already in his grasp. He launched a series of fierce, relentless attacks, as dense as a rainstorm. Just as everyone thought Sun Wukong was about to be defeated, his expression shifted. A shocking and terrifying power erupted from his clear, pure eyes.
Sun Wukong quickly brought his hands together in a fluid motion and thrust them forward, unleashing the devastating Kamehameha. The immensely powerful energy wave surged forth like a broken dam, unstoppable, and struck the opponent with such force that he was left helpless, collapsing to the ground and unable to rise for a long time.
Master Roshi's jaw dropped, and he stood stunned, unable to believe his eyes. Sun Wukong, however, showed no pride or arrogance; his expression remained humble and calm as he said, "All of this is thanks to your careful guidance and strict training, Master Roshi. Without your instruction, I could never have achieved this today."
Master Roshi couldn't help but laugh, "Kid, you hid that well, but you did a great job. You didn't let me down!"
From that day on, under Master Roshi's special training, Sun Wukong's strength soared like a rocket, reaching new heights as he continued to write his legendary chapter in the vast Dragon Ball World, fearlessly facing one difficult and unknown challenge after another.
