Background
Sun Hao, a Dragon Ball fan, was first reborn in the Douluo Dalu world and obtained a mysterious Spirit Awakening Array. A spatial disturbance then reincarnated him on Planet Vegeta as Kakarot. After Bardock foresaw Planet Vegeta’s destruction, he sent the infant to Earth, where Sun Gohan adopted him and named him Sun Wukong. Wukong regained Sun Hao’s memories at age three. 1
At age six, he used qi and his inherited knowledge to recreate the Spirit Awakening Array, awakening the Saiyan Great Ape Spirit and introducing soul-ring cultivation into his life. 1
From ages seven to twelve, Sun Gohan trained him on Mount Paozu in physical conditioning, close combat, Martial Soul control, and discipline. Wukong initially struggled to control his spirit power but persisted through repeated failures; this training developed his patience and restraint as well as his strength. 2
His Saiyan Great Ape Spirit grows alongside his combat power: every point of combat power increases the age of his spirit rings by one year. The spirit additionally strengthens his Saiyan bloodline and grants inherited Saiyan knowledge concerning qi, combat, transformations, and recovery after near-death experiences. 1 102
After his later adventures, Wukong openly recounts both his Douluo Dalu memories and his Dragon Ball-world experiences to his family and allies, deepening their understanding of the Martial Soul system and the experiences that shaped him. 102 104
Appearance
Wukong is first presented as a small boy in simple, patched clothing, with a childlike face and clear eyes. He later commonly wears a simple martial arts uniform. 3 4 9
- Super Saiyan 1 — upright golden hair and a blazing golden aura. 2
- Super Saiyan 3 — waist-length hair, deepened brow ridge, and power intense enough to shake nearby trees. 49
- Super Saiyan 4 — long black hair, red body fur, restored tail, and distorted air around him. 50
- Super Saiyan 5 — silver-white hair and a blue aura. 50
- Super Saiyan God — red-haired form with a sacred aura. 16

Personality
Wukong is defined by perseverance and a constant desire to grow stronger. Even when his training overwhelms him or an opponent defeats him, he responds with renewed determination rather than discouragement. 2 6
He is also strategic and deceptive in combat. During the Dragon Ball journey and martial arts tournaments, he repeatedly presents himself as frightened, weak, or inexperienced before suddenly revealing his true ability. Despite this, he remains humble after victories and credits his teachers rather than boasting. 3 4 6 9
As his power grows, Wukong treats protection as a responsibility. He confronts threats to civilians, leads allies against larger crises, and prioritizes Earth and the universe’s safety over personal glory. 12 15 25 45 49
His curiosity extends beyond fighting. He seeks out unfamiliar powers, technologies, and combat systems across other universes, offering advice to new allies while learning from their abilities in return. 89 91 163
Although he enjoys challenging powerful opponents, he ultimately places responsibility over his personal desire for battle. His decision to intervene against Granolah and the Heeter Force reflects his conviction that strength exists to safeguard loved ones and universal peace. 81
