History
The Ancestral Seal originates outside the eternal chess game. It is described as the sole flaw in the Pseudo-Heaven's cage: an ultimate root able to break the game and shatter its fixed destiny. Its awakening in Lin Chen is tied to his repeated defiance of fate and refusal to follow the chess game's predetermined outcomes 31.
During the collapse of Myriad Chess, the Seal manifests as a dark, ancient glimmer. It melts billions of Chess Dao chains, expels invasive Out-of-Domain wills from Lin Chen's consciousness, stabilizes his failing source, and restores his damaged body 31.
A second Seal is later revealed beyond the Eternal Cage, within Destiny Return to Void. The two seals share one source while carrying opposed light and dark aspects; their resonance repairs the world and rewrites its rules, though their fusion is later disrupted by an ancient Dark Breath hidden in their cores 34 35 37.
In Lost Abyss, the Purple Shadow identifies the Fate-Defying Ancestral Seal as the Heavenly Origin's Child—the core piece of a ten-thousand-year-old chess game. Its loss left that game incomplete, and its return is necessary to open the true entrance and complete the board 52.
The Seal is also bound to older conflicts between the Fate-Defying Path and those who uphold the established Heavenly Dao. Purple Shadow considers any bearer of the Seal part of the Fate-Reversal Lineage and therefore liable for an inherited ancient debt 53 54.
Later discoveries connect it to a Chaos chess game and an ancient gods' suppression formation. The Seal's arrival destabilizes seals surrounding an underground Chaos-origin demon and an entity within an ancient coffin, making it a coveted key for the Chaos Elder's plan 61 62.
Appearance
The Seal is an ancient patterned artifact usually housed within its bearer's chest or dantian. Its light and markings change according to the forces it encounters.
- Emits dim dark, green, golden, crimson, or mixed light depending on its activation and resonance 31 52 60.
- Bears fine ancient patterns that can spread across its bearer’s body or along their meridians 52 53.
- Develops faint black lines along its edges during disturbances connected to Chaos and the underground seal 61 62.
- Cracks under extreme strain, shedding golden fragments while still releasing ancient origin power 66.
Abilities & Properties
Fate Defiance
The Seal exists beyond the Pseudo-Heaven's chess game and resists systems that impose predetermined fate.
- Breaks the suppression of Myriad Chess and causes Chess Dao power to recoil and disintegrate 31.
- Protects its bearer from fate-draining formations and sacrificial tides 60.
- Can disrupt ancient seals and formations built upon Heavenly Dao or Chaos laws 62.
- Its presence may destabilize existing seals and draw hostile forces seeking to exploit it 62.
Origin Protection and Restoration
The Seal shields its bearer’s body, soul, and cultivation foundation with primordial righteous energy.
- Protects Lin Chen's divine soul from collapse and purges hostile wills 31.
- Restores damaged flesh and stabilizes depleted source energy 31.
- Automatically blocks baleful energy, yin energy, and corruptive abyssal forces 54 58.
- Repairs damaged meridians with its residual warm power 65.
Suppression and Purification
Its righteous origin power is especially effective against evil, Chaos, and corruptive entities.
- Melts Soul-Locking Runes and breaks restraints on Lin Chen's body and soul 53.
- Drives strange beasts back into the abyss and burns away their corruptive flesh 55.
- Purifies the black tide in Earth Vault and closes sealing fissures 66.
- Can suppress rather than permanently eliminate calamity energy; the Calamity Source remains dormant afterward 66.
Resonance with Ancient Formations
The Seal responds to artifacts, runes, entities, and formations that share its origin.
- Resonates intensely with Lost Abyss's Game Patterns and the Purple Shadow 52.
- Activates and interprets sealed runes at Dragonbone Abyss 55.
- Is recognized by an ancient formation master as necessary to complete a missing formation eye 57.
- Responds to the golden power within the ancient bronze coffin, revealing a second same-origin Seal 58.
- Can divide a portion of its power to sustain an ancient formation, at severe risk to its bearer 65.
Incomplete Ancient Soul
An incomplete Ancient Soul can emerge from the Seal and speak independently.
- Carries an aura capable of standing against True Heaven despite its fragmented state 33.
- Reveals that the ancient cage's original agreement has failed and that the Heavens possess selfish motives 33.
- Explains secrets of True Heaven's long-term layout to Lin Chen 34.
Limitations
- The Seal's awakening depends on its bearer’s will to defy fate; it is not portrayed as power granted without qualification 31.
- Strong activation can damage the Seal itself and injure its bearer’s cultivation and Dao foundation 65 66.
- It cannot alone sustain the full burden of large-scale formations or permanently resolve every seal breach 65.
- Its resonance may attract ancient enemies, awaken sealed entities, or expose its bearer to inherited karmic conflicts 52 53 62.
- A Dark Breath hidden within the Dual Seals can oppose their fusion and undermine the chess game's structure 37.
