Interestingly, these three Chunins each had their own specialties. One of them was probably the sensory ninja, yet she actually cast a genjutsu on Li Yi to confuse him.
The other two each used a different technique, one Water Release and the other Lightning Release. Combining them, they launched a coordinated attack at Li Yi. As for the Jonin, pale blue arcs of electricity flickered all over his body. He had clearly activated Nintaijutsu mode, ready to wait for the right moment to deal Li Yi a fatal blow.
At that moment, Li Yi lifted his Forehead Protector, revealing a crimson Three-Tomoe Sharingan. The female Chunin visibly froze, then looked horrified. Li Yi had just reflected her genjutsu back at her.
As for the stream of water rushing toward him, Li Yi simply punched the ground. Flames blazed across his fist, and the instant it struck the earth, it smashed a charred black hole into the ground. The water flowed into the hole, leaving Li Yi completely unharmed.
Just then, the Jonin vanished and appeared at Li Yi's side. Li Yi's Sharingan turned, catching sight of him. That was the Sharingan's dynamic vision.
But seeing him was one thing; Li Yi's body couldn't react in time. After all, he wasn't a ninja who specialized in Taijutsu.
It was just like Sasuke back then. Even though he could see Rock Lee's movements, his body couldn't keep up with his eyes.
Li Yi was facing the same predicament now. However, he had the Mera Mera no Mi, so he simply turned his body into flames. The Jonin's fist passed through his chest, but not a drop of blood appeared.
"A clone?" the Jonin muttered. Just then, the female ninja shouted, "Captain, watch out!"
Ryujin Jakka had already come down in Li Yi's hand, but the Jonin was fast. With the female ninja's warning, the Kumogakure Jonin turned slightly and avoided a vital spot, though Ryujin Jakka still struck his shoulder.
However, the layer of lightning armor around him blocked Li Yi's Ryujin Jakka.
The Jonin quickly leaped back, putting some distance between himself and Li Yi.
"That's Kumogakure's secret technique, Lightning Style: Chakra Mode. Looks like you're no ordinary ninja," Li Yi said slowly.
The Kumogakure Jonin's expression was also grave. He had just punched straight through Li Yi's chest, so why was the man still perfectly fine?
More importantly, the man had a Sharingan.
He was from the Uchiha Clan, but the Jonin had never heard of the Uchiha Clan having a secret technique like this.
"Captain, his whole body seemed to turn into flames just now, like the Hozuki Clan of Kirigakure. He also has a Three-Tomoe Sharingan and impressive Fire Style!" the female ninja said at once.
"Oh? That complicates things." The Kumogakure Jonin furrowed his brow. If Li Yi were from the Hozuki Clan, he'd be easy enough to kill. Their Kumogakure ninjas were practically their natural enemies. But he'd never heard of anyone turning their body into flames. And the trouble was, their Lightning Release didn't counter fire.
Water Release was needed to counter fire. It was obvious, though, that the only ninja in their team who could use Water Release was too weak.
Having gauged Li Yi's approximate strength, the Kumogakure Jonin said, "You three fall back first. I'll catch up with you."
Li Yi watched these people discuss his abilities as if he weren't there, then try to retreat. He scoffed, shaped his hand like a pistol, and said, "Fire Gun!"
Countless tiny flames shot from Li Yi's fingers. The Jonin appeared directly in front of his three teammates, his body flashing blue. The Fire Gun struck him, but did no real damage.
"Get out of here!"
In truth, the three Chunins had already started backing away without waiting for the Kumogakure Jonin to shout.
They knew they weren't suited to take part in this fight. They would likely only hold their captain back.
Li Yi stopped firing. Against someone from Kumogakure who had activated Lightning Style: Chakra Mode, the damage from these attacks was simply too low.
"Blaze Release: Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Jutsu!"
Li Yi quickly formed Hand Seals, not only using Fire Style but also adding the power of his Mera Mera no Mi. The flames, originally orange-red, turned black and red. More than a dozen small fireballs shot toward the Kumogakure Jonin.
The Jonin's expression shifted slightly at Li Yi's Fire Style. As an elite Jonin with years of experience, he sensed the danger and chose to dodge the Phoenix Sage Jutsu fireballs.
However, many of Li Yi's fireballs flew right past him and headed straight for the three Chunins.
"Watch out!" Yotsuki Hayate roared.
The only Water Release user in the team was already forming Hand Seals. A wall of water appeared in front of them, blocking the Phoenix Sage Jutsu fireballs.
But Li Yi's ninjutsu wasn't ordinary ninjutsu anymore. It could already be called Blaze Release.
As for the water wall created by the Chunin, it couldn't even hold them back for a moment before they pierced through it. One fireball struck him in the chest, burning right through it. The Chunin was dead beyond any doubt.
"Bastard!" Yotsuki Hayate cursed. He vanished in an instant and reappeared behind Li Yi. This time, blue arcs of electricity crackled over his fist. He refused to believe Li Yi could keep being immune to his attacks.
Li Yi didn't dodge. Instead, he took a deep breath and quickly formed Hand Seals. "Blaze Release: Flame Dragon Technique!"
An advanced version of the Fire Dragon Technique, it incorporated nature transformation as well as the power of the Mera Mera no Mi. The instant the flame dragon appeared, it circled around Li Yi.
Yotsuki Hayate didn't dare linger behind Li Yi. He could only retreat quickly as Li Yi sent the flame dragon charging after him.
Meanwhile, Li Yi himself went after the two remaining Chunins.
Yotsuki Hayate tried to stop him, but couldn't. The flame dragon was already right in front of him, leaving him no choice but to dodge first. He had never seen Fire Style like this; it was incredibly powerful, and he wasn't sure whether his Lightning Style: Chakra Mode could withstand it.
When he looked again, Li Yi had already caught up with his two remaining teammates. Yotsuki Hayate was furious, yet powerless. Li Yi simply refused to fight him and focused on killing his teammates. There was nothing he could do to protect them.
"Die!" At that moment, the Sharingan in Li Yi's eyes turned as he activated genjutsu. Earlier, one of the female Chunin's teammates had broken free of his genjutsu, but now both of them were within range of the Sharingan Genjutsu. Breaking free of a Three-Tomoe Sharingan's genjutsu wouldn't be so easy.
Sure enough, under the effects of Li Yi's Sharingan Genjutsu, the two stared blankly at him. Ryujin Jakka in Li Yi's hand had already swept across their throats.
After absorbing two wisps of white energy, Li Yi finally turned to look at Yotsuki Hayate.
