However, his shouts were entirely in vain. A Lightning Style ninjutsu unleashed by a jonin slammed directly into the group of genin, sending many of them flying through the air to land motionless, their fates unknown.
"Retreat! Why are you just standing there like idiots?" The jonin was so angry he felt like vomiting blood. In a battle between jonin, if you aren't thinking about running for your life, you're just standing around—isn't that just asking for death?
The words jolted them out of their stupor, and they quickly scrambled backward. But at that moment, Li Yi glanced back, his Sharingan spinning wildly as he cast a genjutsu.
One of the chunin froze, his eyes turning blood-red before he drew a kunai and stabbed it toward his companion.
The companion, never imagining his teammate would backstab him, was caught completely off guard as the kunai pierced his heart.
When the others realized what had happened, they recoiled in horror, distancing themselves from the chunin.
"His eyes!" someone exclaimed. The chunin's eyes had transformed into three-tomoe Sharingan, a reflection of the genjutsu's ocular power.
Any ninja or summoned beast controlled by the Sharingan would display the caster's Sharingan in their own eyes.
"He's been controlled! It's the Sharingan!" his companions immediately shouted.
"Quick, take him down!" several other chunin commanded, simultaneously forming hand seals to unleash their own ninjutsu.
Meanwhile, Li Yi had already swung his blade toward Kujokawa, the wielder of the Storm Style Kekkei Genkai.
"Hah!" Kujokawa roared, and the lightning surging around his body grew even more violent. Although he didn't know the Lightning Style: Chakra Mode, his Storm Style Kekkei Genkai possessed a ninjutsu that served both offense and defense.
It was the Storm Style: Thunder Cloud Inner Wave he had used earlier.
This technique was versatile; it could wrap around his body like a Chidori Current to prevent enemies from approaching, or be condensed into his hand like a Chidori for piercing attacks.
So, as Li Yi slashed down with Ryujin Jakka, the electricity crackling around Kujokawa blocked the blow, while a laser-like lightning spear formed in his hand, thrusting straight toward Li Yi's head.
Li Yi tilted his head slightly to dodge the lightning spear, and a layer of black-red flames instantly coated Ryujin Jakka, colliding fiercely with the surging current on his opponent's body.
"Lightning Style: Multiple Lightning Arrows Technique!" The jonin who had been standing by also quickly formed seals. Dense swarms of lightning arrows appeared around him, raining down on Li Yi in a wide-area barrage.
Li Yi didn't even glance at the jonin's attack. With his body wreathed in crimson flames, the lightning arrows passed right through him, failing to inflict even the slightest injury.
"It's no use, he's immune to other elemental styles. Kujokawa, only your Storm Style can hurt him," the jonin concluded, summarizing the intelligence.
Battles between ninja were also battles of information. Once you knew your opponent's intel, you could formulate a counter-strategy.
Kujokawa immediately shouted, "Ito, I'll hold him off! You go save those chunin and genin—tell everyone who knows Water Style to attack!"
Kujokawa quickly assessed the fight. Since Li Yi had targeted the Water Style jonin first, it was clear that water had an effect on him. Therefore, the key to restraining Li Yi was Water Style.
It had to be said that fighting against ninja was mentally exhausting; the slightest carelessness could lead to a disastrous end.
Just like that, after only a brief exchange, his own intelligence had been exposed to the enemy. Of course, thinking that the Water Style of mere chunin and genin could affect him was still far too naive.
Water countered fire only when the quantities were equal. But when the fire surpassed the water, the fire would simply evaporate it.
How could a group of chunin and genin who hadn't even mastered nature transformation affect Li Yi?
The jonin named Ito had already rushed over, quickly subduing the chunin controlled by Li Yi, and began directing the water-wielding ninja to give Li Yi a "baptism" of water.
Facing the incoming Great Waterfall, Li Yi simply leaped up to dodge the impact of the torrent, landing on the surface of the water once he descended.
However, a surge of electricity soon rippled through the water. Li Yi frowned and looked into the distance; Ito had placed both hands into the water and shouted, "Kujokawa, now!"
Li Yi tried to break free, only to find that the current carried a powerful suction force, pinning him firmly to the surface of the water.
The Storm Style ninja, Kujokawa, had already formed hand seals, spitting a long laser from his mouth that swept horizontally toward Li Yi.
"What a nuisance," Li Yi cursed under his breath. His entire body elementalized once more, crimson flames rising from his skin. Just as the laser was about to strike, columns of water erupted from the depths, rushing toward him.
Countless plumes of white smoke—or rather, steam—rose from Li Yi's body.
At that moment, the laser struck. Li Yi felt a sharp pain in his chest. Even though he had reverted to his elemental form as the laser passed, the tearing sensation remained; the areas washed over by the Water Style had actually exposed his flesh.
The laser had struck that very spot. If these Water Style techniques hadn't been so weak, he would have been in real trouble.
A cold sweat broke out on Li Yi's brow. The ninja world was indeed dangerous; once his intelligence was leaked, he was even more vulnerable. He hadn't even fully developed Ryujin Jakka yet—wouldn't it be a tragic waste to die halfway through his journey?
"It's a pity Shota is dead; otherwise, we definitely could have finished off this Konoha ninja!" Kujokawa sighed, lamenting the missed opportunity.
"Die!" Li Yi shot straight into the sky, flames erupting from the soles of his feet. Hovering in mid-air, he quickly formed hand seals and took a deep breath.
"Fire Style: Great Fire Destruction!" Li Yi spat a massive black-red fireball from his mouth. The moment it hit the water, it turned into a sea of black-red blood. It was this very technique he had used to trap Yotsuki Hayate.
Li Yi no longer intended to hold back. Truly, even when hunting a rabbit, a lion must use its full strength. He had been too arrogant just now and had been taught a lesson.
As the sea of fire expanded, the water instantly evaporated, leaving the surroundings shrouded in a thick white mist. Kujokawa sensed the terror of the flames and retreated rapidly. Even so, the fire caught up to him, though his own defensive measures—similar to the Lightning Style Armor—allowed him to escape the range of the technique with his life.
However, the chunin and genin standing on the water, including Ito, were engulfed by the sea of fire, their screams echoing out one by one.
Li Yi's Fire Style was far more potent than standard techniques. Generally, even a jonin's physique couldn't endure it for long, and those chunin and genin were burned to ash instantly. As for Ito, though he was in a wretched state, he managed to barely escape the fire's reach by relying on his Lightning Flash.
