Background / History

Natsu arrives at Fairy Tail seeking out Lu Chongwei and immediately challenges him, declaring that his own fire is the strongest. Before the duel, he and Gray begin their long-running rivalry with a fistfight that damages guild property and earns both of them a beating from Erza. Lu Chongwei then defeats Natsu in a single physical strike without using magic. 30 31

He finds a Dragon Egg believing it may lead him to Igneel. Although he initially wants Makarov to hatch it with magic, he and Lisanna patiently care for it until it hatches into Happy, a blue winged cat whom Natsu names. 47 50

Natsu later learns that Wendy is a Sky Dragon Slayer whose dragon, Grandeeney, disappeared on the same day as Igneel. His initial excitement gives way to grief and confusion at the shared loss. 194

During the Edolas incident, the absence of ambient magic leaves Natsu unable to use his fire, deeply frustrating him. He nevertheless fights alongside Lu Chongwei and Gajeel to create a destructive “Demon King” spectacle that diverts public blame from Mystogan. 227 252

During the Eclipse dragon attack on Crocus, Natsu battles Future Rogue and refuses to accept his willingness to sacrifice others for a rewritten future. After exhausting much of his magic power, Natsu consumes Atlas Flame's hellfire and learns that the Fire Dragon was Igneel's old friend.
