But now, the X Energy in the World Forge had nearly run dry. The ground was covered in savage cracks, its black surface frozen solid and utterly desolate.
This was Barbatos's handiwork. Over the long years, Barbatos had continuously used his own power to corrupt the World Forge, steadily reducing its X Energy until it vanished completely.
Its foundation had been damaged and eroded by Barbatos's power. Once Barbatos defeated Annihilation and occupied the two multiverses, everything above the Orrery of Worlds would nearly fall within his control.
"What a tragedy. Stubbornly holding on, waiting for the day you can turn things around." Donnie stamped the ground and spoke softly.

The forge beneath his feet was deathly silent.
Donnie sneered, unconcerned. No matter what the World Forge thought of him, today he would carry out the plan he had prepared for so long.
"You are the deepest foundation of the two great multiverses. I wonder whether, if you suddenly disappeared, the multiverses would truly be destroyed forever..."
Donnie chuckled softly, bent down, and reached out to stroke the ground.
