Background / History

Optimus Prime first manifests when Donnie’s grief and resentment awaken Spark Energy during the Hulk and Abomination’s battle in New York. Donnie’s destroyed family truck transforms into a three-meter humanoid metal construct, which Donnie names Optimus Prime and regards as alive and capable of feeling. At this stage, Optimus is an extension of Donnie’s will rather than an independent consciousness. 2 3

In the battle against Abomination, Optimus severely wounds the creature, endures the loss of an arm, and is repeatedly repaired through Donnie’s limited Spark Energy. He ultimately forms a massive Spark-coated blade and decapitates Abomination, though the effort nearly destroys Donnie’s AllSpark and leaves Optimus critically depleted. 3 4

His early chassis is repeatedly rebuilt from salvaged vehicle parts. S.H.I.E.L.D. restores missing components after the Abomination battle, and Optimus later integrates a motorcycle into his body.
