The one Neville had grown up with was actually another, much older pram.
The pram before him was still unfinished. Only its basic frame had been put together; it did not even have wheels yet.
Over the past two days, Augusta Longbottom had told him many things, including this unfinished pram.
News of Voldemort's defeat had spread throughout England, and his parents had decided to make him a brand-new pram to celebrate.
Regrettably, the Longbottoms had only completed the pram's rough frame when Bellatrix Lestrange and other Death Eaters captured and tortured them. They had ultimately spent more than a decade at St. Mungo's.
That half-finished pram had also been put away in the basement by Augusta Longbottom and never taken out again.
Tears and snot streamed freely down Neville's face, leaving it a complete mess.
Even when Augusta Longbottom had told him about the past two days ago, he had not cried like this.
He had never imagined that this unfinished pram would hit him so hard.
Neville staggered toward the pram, looking as though he might fall with every step.
At last, he reached it. His outstretched right hand trembled uncontrollably, as if the air itself carried an immense weight pressing down on him.
If that hadn't happened... Mum and Dad could have been there while I grew up...
He finally touched the pram's handle, clutching it as though it were a lifeline, gripping it until pain shot through his palm.
Only when he saw the indentations in his palm did he realize that a wood splinter had pricked him.
That also snapped Neville out of it. Now was not the time to wallow in grief. As long as he succeeded in waking his parents, everything he longed for could return to his side!
