"I felt it..." Snape admitted, his expression turning somewhat grim. "But the Dark Lord did not summon me."
"Snape! How pathetic!" Barty Crouch Jr. bared his teeth, his mouth full of blood. "The Dark Lord did not summon you, and Dumbledore kept the truth from you as well!"
"Dumbledore clearly knew everything, yet he did not reveal a word to you! Tell me, what have you been doing all these years? Why does he distrust you so much? Shouldn't you reflect on that properly?"
Rather than answering, Snape questioned Barty Crouch Jr. instead. "Are you really Crouch? Or are you some Gryffindor in disguise? If you returned to your father now..."
"Do not mention that man!" Barty Crouch Jr. growled, like a beast about to attack. He hunched forward and glared venomously at Snape.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Snape raised his wand and cast the Full Body-Bind Curse at Barty Crouch Jr.
"You wept bitterly before your father, saying that you would turn over a new leaf and continue being his good..." he went on, deliberately drawing out the word "good," "...son."
"Then what do you think your father would do? Happily share everything about the Ministry of Magic with you, or remain wary of you and keep the Dark Lord's return from you?"
"That's right..." He looked at Barty Crouch Jr. with pity. "Perhaps you were simply too inexperienced... You had barely graduated before your own father sent you to Azkaban."
"Though I do not know how you escaped, judging from your words and actions now, those Dementors in Azkaban certainly changed you quite a bit..."
"How did you connect all those things and arrive at such a foolish conclusion? Barty Crouch, remember this... I will always be the Dark Lord's loyal servant."
Snape paced over to Barty Crouch Jr. "Dumbledore
