As they pieced together the outline of the incident, Jimmy's tone grew subtle. "Why does it feel like... their statements don't match up?"
"I think it's strange too!" Brian nodded repeatedly in agreement. "Do you remember why we chased them here?"
"Wasn't it to find out who attacked us... But I just asked several people, and they all said they didn't know about that."
"I asked similar questions too!" Will cut in. "Anyway, I think Mr. Lovegood can't be wrong, so the problem must lie with them!"
"Will, it's rare for you to say something sensible." Jimmy's tone carried a hint of teasing. "I think these people are the problem too!"
"Among the No-Majs, there's a leader nicknamed Engineer. I showed Engineer the confiscated guns, and Engineer said he recognized them—they had all been modified by him."
"Could it be another magical contract?" Jerry sighed. "I ran into something similar too..."
"What we can confirm for now is that the five No-Maj mafia groups entrenched in New York took part in this operation."
"But as for who was in overall charge..." He shrugged and spread his hands. "No idea. We just can't get it out of them."
"Jerry, that's a good summary." Paul Smith joined the conversation as well. "There must have been someone in overall charge!"
"I can even be certain..." He clenched his fist, speaking with absolute conviction. "Before Mr. Lovegood opened the door, that person in overall charge was inside this estate!"
The four Hit Wizards asked curiously, "Paul, why do you think that? Did you find something?"
"No..." Paul Smith shook his head, sounding somewhat helpless. "If I have to name my basis... the most straightforward one is probably intuition."
"An Auror's intuition..." Jimmy stroked his chin. "Of course we trust that!"
