Strange Weapon

The carriage rolled out of the city's west side at an unhurried pace, heading straight for the east gate. As he looked at the various shops lining the streets of the eastern district, Liu Feng's heart suddenly stirred. He snapped out of the joy of having just left the Count's Mansion, glanced over Turner's burly frame, and asked softly, "Turner, you know combat skills, right?"

In his memories, Liu Feng knew Turner was fairly strong. He had fought many times with the servants who bullied Nicholas, but none of those servants had possessed any combat skills, so Liu Feng could not be sure whether Turner relied on his naturally powerful physique or had actually learned any martial techniques.

"Heh heh, I learned a little. Someone taught me, but I'm dumb, so I didn't learn it very well!" Turner scratched his messy black hair and answered with a foolish grin.

Liu Feng nodded lightly. He did not ask who Turner had learned from, and instead instructed the coachman, "Stop at a shop that sells weapons."

Since Turner knew combat skills, then a Warrior could not go without a decent set of equipment. But Turner, who had followed Nicholas for so many years, had nothing besides his cloth clothes and that strong body of his. Forget armor and other essentials for a Warrior—even a weapon was nowhere to be seen. This made Liu Feng despise Count Derek's stinginess all over again.

When they stopped in front of a fairly large weapon shop, Liu Feng leapt down from the carriage. Turner immediately followed behind him, excitement showing in his eyes.

This big fool was only rather simple, honest, and straightforward, without many schemes in his head. It did not mean he was truly stupid. Hearing what Liu Feng had said just now, Turner knew the young master must be planning to get him a weapon, and this made Turner, who had long wanted to own one, incomparably happy.

Looking at the shop before him, decorated very luxuriously with a large storefront, Liu Feng could not help but smile bitterly. In his heart, he fiercely cursed the coachman for not choosing a smaller shop. One had to know that Warrior equipment on the Falan Continent was generally not cheap, especially in larger shops like this one. Because the quality was better, the prices were even more frighteningly high.

But since things had already come to this, Liu Feng could only brace himself. Secretly, he squeezed the money pouch that held fewer than a hundred gold coins, gritted his teeth, and walked inside. His heart kept sighing with emotion: in any world, money was the most important damn thing. It seemed he would have to spend some time thinking up ways to make money, or else with this little bit of gold, he would probably end up poor enough to die sooner or later.

The inside of the shop was even larger than its storefront made it appear, at least several hundred square meters or so. All kinds of weapons and armor were arranged in dazzling variety on the racks, giving off waves of cold gleam until Liu Feng felt somewhat dizzy looking at them.

Seeing Liu Feng and Turner enter, a man dressed as an attendant, about thirty or so, came forward. With a professional smile, he said, "What would the two of you like to buy?" His manner was respectful without being fawning, making one feel very comfortable.

Secretly squeezing his money pouch again, Liu Feng smiled and said, "Get him a weapon!" As he spoke, he pointed at Turner.

The attendant sized up Turner's burly build and smiled again. "It seems this gentleman must be a powerful Warrior. May I ask what type of weapon you prefer?"

Turner scratched his head and began grinning foolishly again. For a moment, he truly did not know what kind of weapon he liked.

The attendant seemed long accustomed to this sort of situation with customers. There was not the slightest dissatisfaction on his face; instead, he continued smiling and said, "How about this? Please follow me, both of you. Our shop carries many types of weapons. This powerful Warrior may choose for himself!" As he spoke, he turned to the side and invited Liu Feng and Turner over to the weapon racks on the inner left side.

Sure enough, just as the attendant had said, the shop's weapons were extremely complete: two-handed greatswords, giant swords, one-handed axes, two-handed axes, wolf-tooth clubs... everything one could think of.

Seeing these weapons, a fanatical look spread through Turner's dark eyes. With a foolish heh-heh grin, he touched this one for a while, then that one, beginning to make his selection.

Looking at these assorted weapons, Liu Feng's heart stirred, and he also had the thought of getting himself one. After all, having a weapon for self-defense was better than being empty-handed no matter what. But when he touched that shriveled money pouch, Liu Feng could only sigh helplessly and give up.

Still, if he could not buy, he could at least look. While Turner was cheerfully picking and choosing over there, Liu Feng wandered casually around the shop. Just then, a burst of noisy laughter suddenly rang out inside the shop, followed by a large group of gorgeously dressed people walking in.

The shop had originally been very quiet, which made the group's laughter seem even more grating. Liu Feng could not help frowning and looked toward these uninvited guests.

The person at the front was a man of about twenty. His appearance could be considered handsome, but unfortunately, he had a pair of triangular eyes. A vicious glint flashed through his gaze inadvertently, making him look deeply scheming, and his personality probably belonged to the rather sinister sort. He was dressed in luxury and seemed to be the son of a noble family as well.

Beside this triangular-eyed man was an extremely pretty girl. Her dark brows were shaded just right, neither too thick nor too pale, and her beautiful eyes seemed equally suited to joy or anger. Her skin was incomparably fair, and paired with a head of fiery red hair, her beauty was even more striking. She was not old, around sixteen or seventeen, with a petite figure that did not lack heat. Though she wore a robe similar to a mage's, it still could not conceal that alluring young body, making one's imagination run wild.

Behind these two were several tall Warriors. A few possessed astonishing auras, and they all appeared to be the two people's attendants.

"Tsk, tsk! What a beautiful girl!" Liu Feng's eyes lit up, and he could not help looking at the girl a few more times. But in an instant, he grew grief-stricken and indignant, finally discovering that whether in his previous life or in this world, the truth of fresh flowers being stuck in cow dung never changed. Judging from that man's bearing, he did not seem very suited to this girl no matter how one looked at it.

Shaking his head helplessly, Liu Feng withdrew his gaze. He knew a beauty of this level was not someone the current him could fantasize about. It was better to look at the weapons in front of him; at least that was more practical.

As his gaze shifted, Liu Feng was drawn to a weapon in the corner. He no longer had any mood to look at beauties. Instead, he strode toward the corner, then crouched down and carefully examined this somewhat strange weapon before him.

Amid the slight cobwebs and dust in that corner lay a long, pitch-black weapon about two meters in length.

Strictly speaking, this should be a spear, but it was somewhat different from the spears Liu Feng knew. The spearhead was a blade about thirty centimeters long, covered in rust, and looked somewhat mismatched with the shaft. Moreover, several neat gaps had appeared along the spear blade, as though they had been damage from collision, or perhaps it had been forged that way from the beginning. It looked very strange.

Of course, the strangest thing was not any of this. It was that Liu Feng could vaguely sense an indescribable aura on this spear. It was a little domineering, a little sorrowful, and it made Liu Feng feel somewhat afraid, yet also somewhat close to it. Even more eerie was that Liu Feng faintly felt this spear seemed to possess a consciousness of its own, as though it were calling out for something.

All these many sensations left Liu Feng somewhat bewildered, and he actually froze before the spear.

At this moment, an attendant in his twenties walked over and smiled at Liu Feng. "This weapon was pawned in our shop by someone many years ago, but afterward, they never came to retrieve it. If sir has taken a liking to it, we can sell it to you cheaply." As he spoke, an eager look appeared in the attendant's eyes. It seemed selling off this weapon that was no different from scrap iron had always been one of his dreams.

Sell it to me? Liu Feng was taken aback, then smiled and stood up. "Oh? How much?"

Sensing the eerie aura coming from the spear, Liu Feng suddenly had an impulse to buy it. Of course, only if it was cheap enough!
