Shui Bing'er was a student of Tianshui Academy, an academy specializing in water- and ice-type soul masters. Li Yuan selected her because her Ice Phoenix martial soul possessed an ultimate-ice attribute capable of suppressing the evil fire within his World-Destroying Black Dragon martial soul 3 4.

When Li Yuan recruited Tianshui Academy as an affiliated force of Nibelungen, Shui Bing'er voluntarily agreed to leave with him. Her dean, Shui Yan'er, accepted the decision after Li Yuan promised cultivation resources and Titled Douluo training opportunities for the academy 4.

During the journey through Sunset Forest, Li Yuan's evil fire erupted. Shui Bing'er released her Ice Phoenix martial soul and used its ice power to suppress the backlash. The suppression was only temporary, but Long Yuan determined that the evil fire would remain manageable while she stayed at Li Yuan's side 5.
