The Third Outpost

X-1173 had dark-red hills beneath a pale-purple sky, and the outpost's core was hidden under a gray-white crystal cliff.

The Third Star Realm Outpost, by contrast, lay on an endless gray plain beneath a deep-blue sky, darker even than the night sky over the Federation homeland.

Enormous crystal fragments littered the plain. Some were as large as small mountains; others were no bigger than fists.

They were dark gray through and through, with pale-gold patterns of light flowing slowly across their surfaces.

At the center of the plain stood the outpost's core: a vast fortress assembled from countless crystal fragments.

Xu Wuyi had heard of the fortress. It was called Abysswatch City.

It owed its name to the bottomless Spatial Rift directly beneath it. The outpost's Origin Energy surged from that rift.

When Shen Jin and the others captured the place thirty-seven years ago, it had been nothing but ruins occupied by Star Beasts. The Federation had spent decades building it into what it was now.

The transport plane descended slowly onto Abysswatch City's landing pad. Xu Wuyi walked down the ramp, where several garrisoned grandmasters were already waiting.

At their head stood a burly middle-aged man in a dark-gray combat uniform. His face was resolute, and an old scar ran down his left cheek from the corner of his eye to his chin.

His aura was steady. He was at the peak of the Domain Realm, one step away from Divine Intent.

"Grandmaster Xu." The man stepped forward and saluted, his voice ringing out. "Zhao Beifeng, deputy commander of the Third Star Realm Outpost, welcomes the commander-in-chief on behalf of all garrisoned grandmasters."
