At the same time, Gou Kong abruptly came back to himself.
In that instant just now, his thoughts had been like a wild horse that had thrown its reins, scrambling wildly along the vines of memory, and he had actually thought of all sorts of trivial, irrelevant things.
He lifted his head, meeting Gine's smiling eyes head-on.
"Mr. Gou Kong, what are you spacing out for? Was what I said just now too long-winded?"
Seeing that his gaze was a little unfocused, Gine asked cautiously, her tail swaying gently behind her.
Hearing this, Gou Kong immediately laughed despite himself and shook his head at Gine, flinging those jumbled thoughts out of his mind.
"It's nothing. I just drifted off for a moment. I happen to be off rotation today, and staying in the palace was getting a little stifling, so I came out for some air and to look around the streets of Planet Vegeta while I was at it. The palace is full of cold metal everywhere, and there are hardly even any people to talk to. Today was a good chance to get together with you."
"That's wonderful!" As soon as Gine heard that, her face lit up as if she had received some enormous reward. "That little guy Raditz is definitely going to be over the moon! Oh, look at me, I was so busy being happy that I actually forgot the important thing! This is still work time. If I don't take your order soon, the manager will chew me out. Mr. Gou Kong, what would you like to eat?"
Gou Kong pushed the electronic ordering tablet on the table over. His fingertips slid quickly across the dazzling menu, and in the end he accurately selected several heavy dishes with the largest portions and the richest fat content.
"These will do. Make the portions big, and the meat tender."
"Got it! This one, and this one too, right?" Gine quickly picked up the electronic pen, confirming as she repeated the order while swiftly recording it on the ordering tablet, afraid she might miss a single word.
After confirming there were no mistakes, she winked playfully at Gou Kong. "Then please wait a moment. I'll go place the order with the kitchen right away! I guarantee you'll be satisfied!"
After saying that, Gine hugged the ordering tablet and turned, her steps light as she ran into the kitchen.
That cheerful figure from behind hardly looked like someone going off to do hard labor. It looked more like she was going to collect a reward.
Before long, a faint sound of rolling wheels came over.
An intelligent serving cart loaded with food stopped precisely beside Gou Kong's table.
Its mechanical arms unfolded, moving as smoothly as flowing clouds and running water as they placed plate after plate of steaming dishes on the tabletop.
In the blink of an eye, more than half the table, which had originally been empty, was packed full with all kinds of delicacies, leaving almost no space to even set down chopsticks.
"Filling my stomach comes first."
Gou Kong did not stand on ceremony either. He pulled open the drawer beneath the table and took out a complete set of alloy tableware.
Looking at the pile of food before him, enough to scare an ordinary person out of their wits, a trace of excitement flashed through his eyes.
Although this Saiyan body's appetite was a bottomless pit, he was still, after all, a soul from Earth. When it came to "eating," he still retained that unique attachment.
He picked up a giant beast rib that had been roasted until it sizzled with oil and took a bite.
The meat was fresh and tender, the juices bursting in his mouth. Although the seasoning was on the heavy side, the ingredients were fresh and packed with energy, which made up for it.
There were a few dishes he had never tried before. Though the flavors were somewhat strange, on Planet Vegeta, where material goods were relatively scarce, this level was already rare.
"Mm, not bad. Suits my taste."
Gou Kong nodded inwardly. He ate extremely quickly, but his movements did not seem crude. Instead, they carried a peculiar sense of rhythm.
Piece after piece, plate after plate, the food on the table diminished at a visible speed.
He was like a tireless shredder, continuously transforming high-calorie food into energy.
To ensure eating efficiency, he even turned on "single-thread mode." While his mouth was stuffed full of food, his eyes did not even blink as he focused on picking up the next target and placing it in his bowl.
Only when his mouth truly could not fit any more, or when the rich smell of meat made his mouth and throat a little dry, would he grab the water bottle and gulp down a few mouthfuls.
"Hah... This amount is solid enough."
Looking at the Empty Plate Mountain gradually piling up in front of him, Gou Kong let out a satisfied breath of hot air carrying the aroma of meat.
The portions in this restaurant really did live up to its class. After this meal, the stamina he had consumed during training earlier could probably be replenished by more than half.
"Wow, Mr. Gou Kong, you eat way too fast, don't you?"
A voice filled with surprise and laughter came over.
Gou Kong looked up and saw that Gine had, at some point, changed out of her work uniform and was now sitting opposite him, staring in disbelief at the stack of empty plates in front of him that was nearly taller than she was.
"When did you get off shift? I didn't even notice." Gou Kong swallowed the meat in his mouth and asked casually.
"I got off ages ago. I've been sitting down for quite a while already." Gine pointed out the window and said with a smile, "You were so busy burying your head in your work that you didn't even notice the sky had changed, right? Look, the sunset is almost gone."
Gou Kong looked in the direction she indicated and saw that the originally gray sky outside the window had now been dyed orange-red, the enormous setting sun slowly sinking.
"It's actually this late..." Gou Kong was stunned for a moment, then reacted. "Looks like Bardock and Raditz should be here soon too. Perfect. Before they arrive, I'll finish cleaning up these leftovers, so it won't be inconvenient to talk later."
As he spoke, he dragged the remaining plates of meat in front of him and continued sweeping through them like a storm.
Gine watched his manner, as if he wished he could lick the plates clean, and a trace of worry appeared on her face. She could not help advising him, "Eat a little slower. It's not like anyone is going to snatch it from you. You're a grown man, so why eat in such a rush? Careful you don't choke."
"It's fine. This much isn't even enough to get stuck between my teeth." Gou Kong did not even lift his head, speaking unclearly. "Rather than dawdle over it slowly, I might as well finish it all in one go. Once the table's cleared, it'll be more comfortable to chat later."
Gine opened her mouth and seemed to want to say something else, but seeing Gou Kong's matter-of-fact expression, she finally sighed and shook her head helplessly, though the corner of her mouth held a faint, indulgent smile. "All right, all right, as long as you're happy. But with the way you're going, even Bardock can't compare."
Just then, two familiar voices interrupted their conversation.
"Brother Gou Kong!"
"Mm?"
Gou Kong's movements paused, and he turned to look. He saw Bardock holding little Raditz's hand, standing beside the table.
Raditz's big, dark, round eyes were wide open as he stared at the spectacular "empty plate tower" in front of Gou Kong with a face full of admiration.
Bardock, meanwhile, looked calm, though a barely perceptible flicker of surprise passed through his deep eyes.
"Bardock, you're here? Sit." Gou Kong greeted them casually and pressed the call bell at the corner of the table, signaling the clerk to bring tea.
Bardock sat as told, his gaze sweeping over the pile of empty plates in front of Gou Kong before he said in a low voice, "We've been here a while. You were staring at that robot in a daze, so we didn't disturb you. What, is that lump of metal so interesting?"
It turned out that while Gou Kong had been spacing out, a meal-delivery robot had happened to stop nearby to organize its trays, and he had taken a few extra looks at it.
To Bardock, this seemed rather baffling.
A Saiyan was actually interested in dull machinery?
"Bardock! Don't talk about Mr. Gou Kong like that!" Gine hurriedly nudged her husband lightly with her elbow, signaling him not to speak carelessly.
Bardock shrugged and didn't continue the topic. Gou Kong, on the other hand, didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and scratched his cheek.
Indeed, in the eyes of an ordinary Saiyan, this kind of behavior really was rather strange.
After all, aside from fighting and eating, did these battle maniacs have the leisure to study mechanical principles?
But what could he say?
Was he supposed to tell them that he was actually a soul from Earth, and that he still retained an instinctive curiosity toward these sci-fi things?
Forget it. The more he explained something like this, the messier it would get.
Gou Kong looked at the family of three before him and couldn't help sighing inwardly.
On this planet that was about to be destroyed, among this savage race that only knew battle, he could actually still see such a warm family scene. It had to be called a miracle.
