You must be loyal to His Majesty the King!
After processing the grape pulp, Joseph transferred the water for winemaking to another large wooden barrel, maintaining it at 60 degrees Celsius. ✊🍟 ✌♧
Half an hour later, Joseph took out the grape juice that had been soaked in hot water, covered it, and began soaking the next bucket of grape juice...
And so, he and Eman worked for three or four hours and finally processed all the brewing ingredients.
Joseph wiped his brow and had Eman invite the Plantation Owner who were eagerly waiting outside in.
More than thirty Nobility rushed into the brewing room, but when they saw what was there, they looked at each other in bewilderment—the water was still water, and the grape juice was still grape juice.
The older Plantation Owner looked at Joseph and said cautiously, "Your Highness, it seems you haven't started brewing yet..."
Joseph nodded. "Then get your brewing technicians started quickly."
The old Nobility looked on in astonishment. "You mean, you want my people to brew it?"
"That's right."
Everyone immediately showed disappointment. As expected, the so-called "reducing the failure rate" and "improving quality" techniques were nothing more than a joke played by the Crown Prince.
Joseph smiled at their expressions and pointed to the wooden barrels inside the house, "All the important steps have been completed where you can't see them. Brewing is just a simple finishing touch; anyone can do it."
"Ah... yes, Your Highness." The older Nobility summoned his family's brewers with great interest and instructed them to begin brewing.
Joseph saw the brewers getting busy, only instructing them to minimize contact with the raw materials and use heat-treated vessels, before he drifted away.
The Nobility escorted the Crown Prince to the main road outside the Arson Wine Cellar. Only after the prince's carriage door closed did they cease their bowing and begin to discuss among themselves:
"Viscount Jules, do you believe the technologies His Crown Prince spoke of are true?"
"Surely His Highness wouldn't go all the way to Bordeaux just to joke with us, would he?"
"I hope it's true, my Wine Cellar hasn't made any money for years..."
"Sigh, mine too..."
"There's no use guessing here; we'll know once we see the brewing results in a few days."
In the Carriage, Joseph leaned back in the soft seat, enjoying a rare moment of leisure—now he just had to wait for the Wine to be made, and then he could "close the net." Until then, there was nothing he could do.
This was, in fact, his first vacation since becoming the Crown Prince.
Where should he go to relax? He thought for a moment, then turned to Eman and asked, "Count Eman, Bordeaux should have some nice beaches, right?"
The latter pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "Your Highness, if you wish to enjoy the beach scenery, I recommend Arcachon. It's only a half-day walk the South from here."
"Okay, let's go there!"
Joseph suddenly remembered the doctor who was alone at Governor Monsoreau's Villa, and hurriedly instructed, "Go back first, and bring Doctor Perna with you."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Before long, Perna, dressed in a white men's long coat, with her hair tied up and wearing Tricorn Hat, boarded the Carriage. Upon hearing that they were going to Arcachon, she excitedly crossed her arms and exclaimed, "Oyster! God, I love Oyster the most! Thank you, Your Crown Prince, thank you so much!"
Joseph paused, startled. "Oyster?"
Eman quickly explained in a low voice, "Your Highness, Arcachon has been a famous Oyster- producing region since Rome times."
Perna quickly added, "The best Oyster in all of France!" Her eyes shone with the pious light of a pilgrim on a pilgrimage.
Joseph chuckled, surprised that their doctor was such a foodie.
After a bumpy half-day journey, the Carriage finally arrived at Arcachon.
Joseph stood on the beach, feeling the cool sea breeze blowing against his face—this was a temperate maritime climate. Even in winter, the sea breeze wasn't too cold. Looking at the distant, painterly sand dunes and the golden beach stretching to the horizon on the other side, he felt a resonance with nature, filled with peace and tranquility.
Perna, smelling the faint fishy scent of the sea breeze, smiled at Joseph and said, "Your Highness, the climate here is very beneficial to your Pneumonia. Perhaps you should stay here a little longer."
Joseph sighed softly, "Yes, if I could, I'd love to stay here forever."
Perna chuckled and added, "However, moving Versailles Palace to Bordeaux is no easy task."
After chatting for a few more minutes, the doctor began to peek around cautiously.
Eman smiled and whispered in her ear, "I've already contacted the best Oyster merchant; they'll be here soon."
Perna's secret was exposed, and her pretty face immediately flushed slightly.
Soon, on the flat beach, the Guard cordoned off a section of land with curtains. A middle-aged man in a black coat, with rough and hard skin, directed several servants to unload the wooden barrels from the cart.
Eman instructed his Servant to bring over several exquisite small wooden tables, spread tablecloths on them, and set out tableware, pastries, and Wine. He then turned to the Oyster merchant guarding the barrels and gestured, "Please begin."
The middle-aged man immediately used his calloused hands to scoop an Oyster, bigger than his palm, from the wooden bucket. He took out a knife and skillfully pried and sliced through the hard shell, removing the milky-white Oyster meat. He placed it on the plate in front of Joseph, then cut open a lemon, squeezed out the juice, and dripped it onto the Oyster, eagerly gesturing for the latter to taste it.
Raw? Joseph was a little embarrassed. "Dude, these Oyster are freshly caught from the sea, but what if they cause you health problems? Mudworms, you know? And what about viruses...?"
Seeing Perna at the next table already picking up her fork with a gleam in her eyes, he quickly stopped her, clearing his throat and saying, "Well, you're in luck today. I know a healthier and tastier way to Cooking Oyster, would you like to try some?"
"Ah?"
Joseph thought for a moment, then asked the Oyster merchant to bring a grill, garlic, and some spices, and gave him detailed instructions...
Half an hour later, on the iron grill, the Oyster meat, sizzling and glistening with oil, had turned golden brown inside the Oyster shells filled with minced garlic and various spices. The rich aroma of meat mixed with the scent of garlic permeated the air for more than half a mile.
Joseph picked up a Walnut -sized piece of Oyster meat, coated with minced garlic, with his fork and put it in his mouth. His eyes widened immediately: No wonder it's from the best Oyster- producing region in all of France! The meat is plump, tender, and juicy, with a hint of sweetness! Combined with spices and minced garlic, and roasted over the fire, it's as if the salty freshness of the ocean and the heat of the flames melt together in your mouth, as sweet as kissing a beautiful and lovely girl!
Ah--that's the taste!
Perna, standing to the side, completely forgot everything and disregarded any ladylike restraint, stuffing Garlic-Baked Oyster into her mouth with all her might, even though they were burning her eyes and she still wouldn't stop.
And so, Joseph spent the first day of his vacation in the sunshine, on the beach, and with grilled Oyster.
What he didn't expect was that soon after, a dish called "Crown Prince Oysters" would become a sensation throughout Bordeaux...
A leisurely holiday always flies by, and after eight days of fun in various parts of Bordeaux, Joseph returned to the Arson Wine Cellar.
Because the Wine has already been made.
Inside the warm brewing room, dozens of Plantation Owner stared intently at the dozen or so Oak Wood, anxiously awaiting the results.
Joseph smiled and gestured to the old Nobility beside him, "Baron Plutarch, would you please inspect the brewing process for everyone?"
"As you command, Your Highness." Plutarch nervously used a nail remover to remove the cork from the barrel, then inserted a hollow Glass into the barrel, and plugged the other end of the Glass with his finger.
After he pulled out the Glass, a considerable amount of liquid had accumulated at the bottom of the tube.
He released his fingers, letting the Wine from the Glass flow into the glass beside him, then picked up the glass, sniffed it, and took a small sip.
Someone nearby asked anxiously, "Baron Plutarch, how is it?"
Plutarch's eyes gleamed with admiration as he nodded vigorously. "Excellent! Although the quality is only average because they were cellar-aged grapes, they really don't have a trace of sourness!"
Another Plantation Owner hurriedly stepped forward, took the cup, and without caring that someone else had already drunk from it, tilted his head back and took a sip. He immediately exclaimed excitedly, "It really has no sour taste at all!"
Plutarch took another sip from the next Oak Wood, tasted it, and exclaimed in amazement once more, "Still the same, not acidic at all!"
Unable to contain themselves any longer, everyone grabbed a glass and crowded around to taste the wine, followed by bursts of excited exclamations.
When Plutarch finished inspecting the last Oak Wood and looked at Joseph again, his eyes were filled with nothing but reverence.
"Your Crown Prince, I can confirm that your Brewing Technology is effective..." he said, then suddenly shook his head, "No, it's simply perfect!"
Twelve barrels of wine, not a single one was a failure! Plutarch was very clear about the skill level of his winemaker, something that would have been absolutely impossible before.
In the past, if a brewer made twelve barrels of wine, and no more than two barrels turned into vinegar, he would definitely reward him.
This time, thanks to the Crown Prince's amazing Brewing Technology, not a single barrel of wine was ruined!
This is equivalent to reducing his brewing costs by nearly 30%!
With a near 100% success rate in brewing, the quality of the wine has also been greatly improved.
These Wine, which have absolutely no acidity, are definitely high-end products, and their prices are at least one or two times higher than before!
He felt his heart pounding wildly—he had just roughly calculated that with this increase and decrease, his annual income would increase by nearly Livre!
Clearly, the other Plantation Owner had also calculated the benefits the new technology would bring them, and they were all discussing it with great excitement.
Suddenly, someone bowed to Joseph and asked, "Your Highness, may I ask how much it costs to produce this Brewing Technology?"
Everyone was taken aback, and immediately turned to look at Joseph. Yes, although revenue had doubled, if costs also doubled, the extra profit wouldn't be much...
"I haven't calculated that," Joseph, somewhat uncertainly, after all, how would he know how much it costs to boil a bucket of water? "But the added cost of a bucket of wine shouldn't exceed one sou."
Everyone's eyes lit up immediately.
A barrel of wine costs only 1 shovel? If the workers in the Wine Cellar sneak a few sips, the losses would be much more than that!
Someone couldn't help but smirk, saying smugly, "Let's see how the Venice will compete with us now!"
Another person burst into laughter. "Not just Venice! With His Highness the Crown Prince's Brewing Technology, Spain Wine are no match for Bordeaux!"
"Bordeaux Wine will dominate the entire Europe market!"
"That's right, all of Europe is our wine!"
Long live His Highness the Crown Prince!
Venio raised his glass and called out, "A toast to His Crown Prince!"
The others immediately raised their glasses and responded in unison, "A toast to His Crown Prince!"
After the Plantation Owner calmed down a bit and exchanged glances, Count Torendal stepped forward on their behalf and bowed to Joseph: "Your Crown Prince, how may we possibly use your Brewing Technology?"
Joseph nodded. After all his groundwork, the time to reap the rewards had finally arrived. He smiled and said, "The purpose of establishing the France Brewing Technology Association is to provide members with access to new Brewing Technology. The technology usage fee is 3% of the price of each barrel of wine."
Everyone was overjoyed upon hearing this. They had been worried that the Crown Prince would ask for an exorbitant price, but it turned out to be only 3%. Keep in mind that the improvement in wine quality brought about by the new technology alone could double the price; 3% was practically free.
Count Torendal immediately asked, "Your Highness, what qualifications are needed to join?"
Joseph drawled, "Well, I haven't decided yet."
Everyone was stunned.
Joseph then looked at Venio and the others who had promised a few days ago to plant Potato on a large scale, "However, Mr. Venio, Viscount Clermont, Mr. Mounet, and others have already demonstrated their loyalty to His Majesty the King through their actions. To commend this loyalty, I believe they will be among the first to become members."
Venio and the others were overjoyed. They never expected that their agreement to plant some Potato, which was only to alleviate the Famine among the people, would yield such an unexpected harvest!
The other Plantation Owner were taken aback when they heard "proved their loyalty to the King," but recalling the recent actions of Venio and others, they quickly found the answer—they had agreed to plant Potato on a large scale!
Baron Plutarch pondered, thinking that as long as he could acquire the new winemaking technique, even if the Potato yielded little, the losses could be easily made up for with the profits from the Wine. After all, the Potato "seeds" were provided by the government, while the revenue from the Wine would at least double.
Thinking of this, he immediately stepped forward and said, "Your Highness, I am willing to plant 10 hectares of Potato!"
Joseph looked at him and asked, "How large is your vineyard?"
Approximately 40 hectares.
"Plant one acre of Potato for every four acres of vineyards," Joseph nodded slightly, "That's about enough to show your loyalty."
Plutarch was overjoyed. "Your Highness, may I then join the group?"
"Yes," Joseph nodded, "The membership fee is calculated based on the plantation area, 50 Livre per hectare per year."
"Membership fee?" Plutarch glanced at Venio and the others instinctively, and seeing that Joseph didn't respond, he immediately understood—they were getting a discount.
However, compared to the enormous profits brought by the new Brewing Technology, this membership fee was nothing. He immediately agreed.
Seeing this, other Plantation Owner rushed to offer their assistance, saying, "Your Highness, I can also plant 30 hectares of Potato. Oh, I have a total of 120 hectares of vineyards."
"Your Highness, I am willing to plant 25 hectares..."
"Your Highness, I will also plant 50 hectares..."
As for the so-called "Land Tax Alliance," they have long forgotten about it.
Joseph smiled and gestured for everyone to register the area in Eman and sign the Planting Contract.
As Venio watched the Plantation Owner eagerly signing up to plant Potato, he suddenly remembered something and hurried to Joseph's side, saying, "Your Highness, Count Ledney and the others are unaware of today's events. Would you like me to inform them?"
He was referring to the few people who had asked for leave and didn't show up the day after Joseph called for a meeting.
Joseph chuckled and shook his head, "Thank you for the reminder, but it's unnecessary. The membership requirements of the France Brewing Technology Association are not something everyone can meet."
Upon hearing this, the surrounding Plantation Owner felt a chill run down their spines, but at the same time, they were also relieved.
It's important to understand that if most Wine Cellar start using new Brewing Technology, Wine Cellar without such techniques will quickly lose their competitiveness and eventually go bankrupt.
Fortunately, I didn't listen to Count Ledney that day, otherwise my Workshop would probably be on the bankruptcy list too.
Many thanks to Tianwu, Invincible Hulk's Dad, and Honey Mountain for their generous donations to this book! The author is deeply grateful!
