Royal power in a new age
Murdoch naturally chose to take a stake without the slightest hesitation, obtaining 5% of the Gas Lamp Company with his patents for distilling coal gas and for the gas lamp, which for now still existed only in his head.
5% did not sound like much, but calculated against an investment of three million livres, it amounted to a full 150,000!
That did not even include future dividends or the continued rise in the share price as the company grew.
Joseph then explained his plans for gas streetlights to Murdoch in detail. The latter immediately said, "Your Highness, if you wish to ensure the absolute safety of the gas pipes, I would suggest using gun barrels to carry the gas."
Hearing this, Joseph vaguely recalled that a documentary he had watched in his previous life seemed to have mentioned that Murdoch had used gun barrels as gas pipes for the gas streetlights he built for London.
Perhaps this was the inevitability of history.
He nodded. "A large number of old guns will be retired soon. We can use their barrels."
Once the new percussion cap guns entered service, the retired flintlock guns could be put to good use.
By the time he finished discussing gas lamps with Murdoch, it was already three in the afternoon.
Joseph boarded the little railcar again and continued touring much of the park, only returning to his lodgings after dark.
Standing by the window and watching Murdoch's retreating figure, he could not help sighing inwardly. If only he had a few more talented people like him...
At this thought, something stirred in his mind. That's right, talented people can be recruited. Wasn't Murdoch recruited from the United Kingdom?
Why not launch a "Talent Introduction Plan" as a state initiative?
They could advertise in every country: anyone
