His Cousin Was Here!
Joseph reviewed all the cases handled by Weijinie from beginning to end, and discussed them at length with Fouche and others, but found that there was really no way to approach them.
Some cases, if investigated carefully, might uncover some clues, but that will definitely take a long time.
Just as everyone was at a loss, Eman leaned over and whispered a reminder, "Your Highness, if we don't leave soon, we'll miss our classes at the Police Academy."
Joseph rubbed his temples. It seemed he wouldn't be able to find any fault with Weijinie anytime soon. He decided to go to the Command Department first.
He got up and walked outside, but after thinking for a moment, he turned back and called Fouche to join him, planning to study the matter further on the way.
Fouche hurriedly picked up a large stack of documents about Weijinie from the table and quickly followed, but after only a few steps, the letters in the documents suddenly scattered out with a clatter.
Fouche awkwardly put down the documents and called over the people around him to help pick up the letters.
Joseph glanced at the hundreds of letters scattered on the ground and waved, "Let's go, no need to pick them up, there's no useful evidence anyway..."
He sighed, shaking his head somewhat irritably. "If only there were a few letters containing evidence of his crimes."
At this point, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, as if he had grasped a spark of inspiration.
Since I don't have any evidence of wrongdoing, could I try to get Weijinie to write down some evidence voluntarily?
He quickly reviewed the information he had just looked at in his mind, then suddenly turned around, pulled out a few pages from the files next to Fouche, and spread them out on the table.
One of the files was Vareilles's information, and then he looked at the information about the father of Lunache, the murderer in the recent case.
Although the two were completely unrelated, they had one thing in common—they were both from Caen.
Joseph lowered his head in thought. Perhaps he could use this small lever to push things forward... and then guide them in this way...
So, no matter how careful Weijinie was, he couldn't avoid falling into a trap!
He picked up the file on Weijinie's maid again and looked it over, then excitedly asked Fouche, "Does the Police Intelligence Division have anyone skilled at forging other people's handwriting?"
Fouche nodded. "Several, Your Highness."
"Alright, call them over quickly." Joseph then pointed to the letters on the ground, "Look for any letters from Vareilles."
"Huh? Vareilles?" Fouche paused for a moment, then remembered that he was Weijinie's close friend, and quickly squatted down to search.
A moment later, he held up a letter. "Your Highness, it's here!"
Several professionals skilled in handwriting imitation arrived at the office one after another. Under Joseph's direction, they imitated the handwriting of Weijinie and Vareilles's letters and wrote several paragraphs.
Joseph selected the two people who imitated the best, and then had all of Vareilles's letters found and handed over to professional intelligence personnel to analyze whether there were any codes or anything like that.
With preparations complete, Joseph said to Fouche, "Select a few capable men and send them to Caen immediately."
"Caen?"
Joseph nodded. "Investigate the situation in Vareilles in detail, and then make the following arrangements..."
After he finished explaining, Fouche clearly realized something, his eyes lit up, and he nodded repeatedly. "Yes, I'll take care of it right away!"
Joseph then discussed the matter in detail with Fouche, making sure all the details had been taken into account, before leaving the Police Intelligence Division with a sense of relief and heading towards the Police Academy.
Judging from the timeline, the Tactical Command Class must have ended long ago.
Several days later.
In a Little Villa on Mouffetard Street on the Left Bank of Paris.
A Nobility couple in their forties sat on chairs with worried expressions, each lost in thought, occasionally letting out a sigh.
On the table in front of them lay stew, bread, and vegetable and Corn soup, but the food was long cold and untouched.
A knock on the door startled the two awake. The maid hurried over and opened the door a crack, asking, "Who are you looking for?"
"Excuse me, is this the residence of Viscount Monterey?"
"I am here."
The man inside stood up wearily and went to greet him, frowning as he looked at the unfamiliar man before him. "Excuse me, may I ask who you are?"
"Sylvain, it's me." The newcomer warmly embraced Viscount Monterey on the shoulder and patted him. Seeing that the latter was still in a daze, he smiled and pointed to himself, saying, "Lange, have you forgotten? Your cousin."
"Cousin?" Viscount Monterey was completely bewildered.
Lange seemed a little displeased. He shoved the gift he was carrying into Monterey's hands, took a step back, and said, "My mother, your Aunt Angelique, do you remember her?"
Monterey suddenly realized what was going on and nodded repeatedly. "How is Aunt Angelique? Oh, dear cousin, how did you find me?"
The so-called Lange was not his cousin, but a special agent from the Police Intelligence Division.
Previously, the Police Intelligence Division went to Monterey's hometown of Caen and made thorough preparations, specifically choosing a distant relative as the entry point.
Lange pulled a copy of the Caen News from a week ago from his pocket and unfolded it for Monterey to see. "I saw the news about my nephew Lunache. Oh, what a pity..."
The newspaper carried news about the "Lunache Boiling Murder Case," which Weijinie had recently taken over.
Madame Monterey also came over, her eyes red as she covered her face, saying, "My God, even Caen knows about this..."
Lange hurriedly said, "My mother saw the news too, and immediately told me to definitely help you. So I rushed over."
"Oh, by the way, how's the case going? Has the verdict been announced?"
Viscount Monterey shook his head. "Not yet. But the presiding judge doesn't want to see me, so in my opinion... there's probably no hope."
Lange smiled, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "That's what I came for."
"You... you have a solution?"
Lange nodded. "My current employer has some connections with that judge, I'll help you smooth things over."
"Of course, this could cost a lot of money, a very large amount."
The Monterey were so moved they almost knelt down before him, pleading, "We'll find a way to solve the money problem. We'll do anything, as long as we don't get the hanging! Please!"
Lange pulled them to sit down on chairs and asked, "Please tell me the details of the case in more detail."
After a long while, Viscount Monterey finally recounted the case in great detail. Lange asked for some more details and immediately stood up, saying:
"Okay, I'll go to the High Court now. Wait for my good news."
Forty minutes later, Lange ' Carriage stopped outside the side gate of the Paris High Court.
He glanced at the massive, dark mass of protesters in front of him, shook his head helplessly, and pushed his way through the crowd.
Before long, in the largest office on the third floor of the High Court, he finally met the target of this operation— Grand Justice Vezinier.
