Background

Nalan Yanran is the treasured daughter of the Nalan Family and was brought to the Yunlan Sect by Yun Yun, who became her master. She is regarded as Yun Yun's successor and is expected to lead the sect in the future. Her grandfather arranged a childhood engagement between her and Xiao Yan, whom she had never met. 3 4

She grew close to Yun Shenwei during their childhood. According to Yanran, he stayed with her when she was ill at age nine, protected her and several senior sisters from a third-tier Earth Demon Ape at age ten, and helped calm her fears before her breakthrough to Dou Practitioner. These experiences made him central to her life. 4

At the start of the story, Yanran confesses her love to Yun Shenwei and asks him to spend more time with her. He accepts her feelings, and the pair seek Yun Yun's approval to become cultivation partners upon adulthood and annul Yanran's engagement to Xiao Yan. 1 2 4

Engagement Annulment Journey

Yanran travels with Yun Shenwei, Yun Li, and Ge Ye to Wutan City aboard the Mystic Wind Spirit Bird. Nervous about possible resistance from the Xiao Family, she is reassured by Yun Shenwei. During the journey, she displays an unusually carefree side while enjoying the food and snacks he provides. 30 31

After Yun Shenwei negotiates with Xiao Yan and Xiao Zhan, Xiao Yan signs a written agreement cancelling the engagement. Yanran celebrates the result with Yun Shenwei. 40 42

Rivalry with Xiao Xun'er

Yanran becomes wary when Yun Shenwei interacts with Xiao Xun'er. She openly interrupts his attention toward Xun'er, resents being excluded from their conversations, and grows distressed after learning Xun'er will return to the Yunlan Sect with them. 32 53 65

Abduction and Imprisonment

A mysterious powerhouse, estimated by Yun Yun to be at least an advanced Dou Zong, attacks the Yunlan Sect, causes heavy casualties, and abducts Yanran. The sect's searches fail to find her, prompting Yun Shenwei to return and vow to rescue her. 105

Yanran is later shown imprisoned by the Soul Clan. Her captors torture her, drain her vitality, and inject toxins into her body, leaving her increasingly unstable and fearful that she could harm Yun Shenwei if he finds her. 201 304

Search for Reunion

After returning to the Battle Through the Heavens world, Yun Shenwei continues searching for his fiancée. The Extraordinary Romance System indicates that the Soul Clan may have altered Yanran through special training or caused her to lose her memories; Yun Shenwei enters the Ancient Battlefield in hopes of learning her whereabouts and recovering her. 304 344
