Background / History
The Xiao Family is a native immortal family based in Crouching Dragon City, a prefecture city with a population exceeding ten billion. Its head, Xiao Zhanting, is the city’s highest-cultivated known resident during Jiang Feng’s arrival. The family’s main residence stands in the city, while collateral branches such as Xiao Jing’s originally lived elsewhere. 697
Before its rise, the family was in long-term decline. Its descendants were weakening by generations, it lacked top-tier strength, and its leadership sought a marriage alliance with the stronger Pei Family to stabilize its position and resource base. The family’s own rules prohibited a descendant who reached the Profound Origin Realm from marrying outside the clan. 730 739
The family maintained a structured collection of cultivation manuals in its Scripture Repository, divided into Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C archives. It also used less important manuals to trade with ascenders while guarding its full collection as the foundation of its power. 697 730
Society and Internal Politics
- Main and collateral branches — Birth status carries major weight. Xiao Jing, though talented, was initially selected for the Pei marriage alliance partly because she came from a collateral branch. 697 741
- Elders — The elders oversee affairs such as external relations, stipends, the Scripture Repository, and clan policy. Their views on Jiang Feng range from cautious cooperation to open hostility. 697 703 743
- Treatment of ascenders — Like many Immortal Sacred Realm families, Xiao Family descendants keep ascenders as pets or slaves. Xiao Xueyun’s pet tournament forces more than three thousand ascenders into lethal combat for entertainment. 698 702
- Strength over rules — Xiao Yu expects to murder Xiao Jing and Jiang Feng before returning home because he believes the family will overlook his actions due to his talent; he had previously killed a clansman over a female ascender. 727
- Mercenary influence — The family previously supported Mu Tuo and installed him as leader of the Mercenary Alliance to profit from it. After his death, the family initially considers retaliation against Dugu Xin’s Flying Dragon Mercenary Corps. 737
Relationship with Jiang Feng
Xiao Jing brings Jiang Feng into the Xiao Family’s territory after rescuing him from slavery. She intends to use family resources to nurture an ascender capable of becoming the family’s pillar, while Jiang Feng relies on her access to the Xiao Family’s collections. 692 697
The family initially treats Jiang Feng as Xiao Jing’s collared pet and allows him access only to Grade C methods through her standing. His performance in the pet tournament, his cultivation guidance, and his alchemy gradually reveal his value. 697 702 737
After Xiao Yu attacks Jiang Feng and Xiao Jing, Jiang Feng accuses the family of deliberately allowing the interception to gain his gratitude. The First Elder ultimately acknowledges the scheme and enters negotiations with him. 728 729
Jiang Feng agrees to strengthen the family in exchange for its accumulated collections and foundations. He creates a high-grade, high-tier cultivation method for the family, refines pills capable of advancing its experts, and uses the family as a power base for his wider ambitions. 743 748 753
By the family’s later rise, Jiang Feng is revered as its Sacred Lord. A Sacred Statue of him stands in the main residence and receives the reverence of Xiao Family members. 858
Conflict with the Pei Family
The Xiao Family’s proposed marriage alliance with the Pei Family originally names Xiao Jing as bride. When Xiao Jing rapidly advances, the family attempts to replace her because its rules bar Profound Origin Realm descendants from marrying out and because she becomes too valuable to lose. 706 739
The Pei Family demands both Xiao Jing and Jiang Feng, threatening war if the Xiao Family refuses. Its real interest is Jiang Feng’s ability to cultivate extraordinary talent and strengthen a family’s foundations. 739 740
Xiao Zhanting accepts Jiang Feng’s conditions: Xiao Jing is named young master, and the Xiao Family commits to destroying the Pei Family. Jiang Feng then helps produce fifteen Eternal Antiquity Realm experts and sets the formation that traps Pei Xingyuan. 741 748 749 752 753
After Pei Xingyuan’s suppression, Grand Elder Xiao Yun dismantles the Pei Family’s forces. Its territories change to Xiao control, while tens of millions of Pei clansmen are reduced to Xiao Family slaves. 754 755
Leadership
- Xiao Zhanting — Family Head during the Pei conflict; reaches the Eternal Antiquity Realm through Jiang Feng’s pill and leads the family’s confrontation with Pei Xingyuan. 740 748 750
- Xiao Jing — Collateral descendant elevated to young master through Jiang Feng’s condition; later becomes family head after reaching the Eternal Antiquity Realm. She is the first collateral descendant and first woman to hold the young master position. 748 755 858
- Xiao Yun — Grand Elder; manages major clan affairs during Xiao Zhanting’s seclusion and later leads the destruction of the Pei Family’s power structure. 739 755
- First Elder — Peak Return Spirit Realm expert who negotiates with Jiang Feng and recognizes the family’s need for higher-level power. 729 730
- Xiao Bihe — Fifth Elder; receives Pei Guangyin when the Pei Family first arrives in Crouching Dragon City. 739
- Xiao Banqing — Elder responsible for monthly stipends; denies Xiao Jing her stipend under Xiao Xueyun’s influence. 703
- Xiao Yuanshan — Former family head and elder who opposes Xiao Zhanting’s trust in Jiang Feng and secretly brings Master Guild appraisers to challenge him. 745
Notable Descendants
- Xiao Xueyun — Once the family’s favored daughter; reached the peak of the Profound Origin Realm at age twenty-five and hosted the lethal pet tournament. She is killed during the family hunt. 698 727
- Xiao Yu — Void Refinement Realm prodigy and Xiao Xueyun’s distant relative and secret lover; attempts to kill Xiao Jing and Jiang Feng in revenge before Grand Elder Xiao Yun intervenes. 727 728
- Xiao Jingxiang — Xiao Zhanting’s youngest daughter; her birth grants her high standing despite not yet entering cultivation. 697
Later Status
With sixteen Eternal Antiquity Realm experts, the Xiao Family becomes one of the foremost powers among the Hundred Clans. Its position is reinforced by Jiang Feng’s support, the Flying Dragon Mercenary Corps’ dominance over mercenary forces, and Xiao Jing’s succession as family head. 858
