Background / History

The Yun Lan Sect is a centuries-old major sect built in the Yunnan Mountain Range and regarded as one of the Gama Empire's foremost cultivation powers. Its reputation rests not only on powerful founders and successive sect masters, but on a tradition of winning support through virtue rather than casually oppressing ordinary people. 30 34

Yun Shenwei transmigrates into the sect as its Senior Apprentice Brother and resolves to prevent its future destruction, which he believes Xiao Yan would cause after Nalan Yanran's engagement is annulled. 1 The sect becomes the center of the dispute when Yun Shenwei and Nalan Yanran petition Yun Yun and the three elders to permit their future Dao companionship and annul Nalan Yanran's childhood engagement. 3 4

Yun Yun ultimately permits the engagement annulment but punishes Yun Shenwei for threatening suicide to force the decision. Nalan Yanran's continued position as Yun Yun's successor is tied to her performance in the Young Generation Disciple Competition. 5 6

The sect hosts its annual Disciple Competition, attended by affiliated families seeking recognition and opportunities for their younger members. Yun Shenwei's victory over Gu Ming bolsters the sect's standing before those families. 19 20 27

While Yun Shenwei, Nalan Yanran, Yun Li, and Ge Ye travel to Wu Tan City, the sect's influence is used to negotiate with the Xiao Family and later expand trade through the city's major families. 30 51 57 During Yun Yun's absence, however, a mysterious expert attacks the sect, kills or injures numerous members, and abducts Nalan Yanran. The leadership suppresses news of the breach and dispatches elders to search for her. 105
