Background / History

The Black Dragon occupied the Geryon Giants’ nest in the Northern Desert after being badly wounded. It was preparing to lay an egg and demanded food from the giants. Mercenaries scouting for a gold mine discovered it; their leader Nake died from injuries sustained during the retreat, while the surviving witnesses spread news of the dragon throughout Windfire Town 13.

The prospect of a wounded dragon and its egg attracted a Dragon Slayer Team of more than 300 people. The dragon’s body, scales, blood, bones, crystal core, and egg were all regarded as immensely valuable, while killing a dragon was considered a legendary honor 13 14.

In the valley, the Black Dragon allowed Saint Mage Laurat and Sword Saint Hickory to weaken one another before attacking. Already weakened by prior injuries and impending egg-laying, it nevertheless wounded both men, battled Laurat’s level-nine Golden-Eyed Magic Eagle, and used Dragon Language Magic against Laurat’s lightning spell 17 18.

Its wounds ultimately reopened during the battle. It laid a dragon egg and collapsed near the valley entrance. Li Junshan then released a Facehugger into its mouth, implanting it as a host 18. The resulting larva burst from the dragon, consumed its crystal core, and evolved into the Xenomorph Black Dragon. Li Junshan later stored the original Black Dragon’s corpse in his spatial ring 19.

Appearance

The adult Black Dragon was an immense, heavily wounded dragon whose presence alone inspired fear even among powerful combatants.

Northern Desert Dragon Hunt

News that the Black Dragon was wounded and about to lay an egg transformed the Geryon Giants expedition into a dragon-slaying operation. Harisa organized the Dragon Slayer Team around the promise of its remains and egg 13.

Battle in the Valley

The Black Dragon became the central threat in the confrontation between Laurat and Hickory. Though badly injured and weakened by egg-laying, it demonstrated the danger of a level-nine dragon by attacking both saints and fighting the Golden-Eyed Magic Eagle 17 18.

Xenomorph Host

Li Junshan’s Facehugger implantation turned the dying dragon into the host of a new Xenomorph. Its larva inherited draconic traits, consumed the dragon crystal, and evolved into the Xenomorph Black Dragon 18 19.

Legacy of the Dragon Egg

The egg laid by the dying Black Dragon was retrieved by Li Junshan. He later accelerated its hatching by soaking it in acid; the newborn dragon recognized him immediately and accepted a summoning contract without resistance 27.
