A sudden crash of shattering glass rang out.
Passersby looked up and turned toward the sound.
Amid the rain of falling glass shards, a figure tumbled from a second-floor window and slammed heavily onto the street.
It was a middle-aged man in work clothes. Large portions of his skin had ulcerated, and his face was covered in dark red pustules.
His eyes were bloodshot, and thick fluid continuously dripped from the corners of his open mouth.
"Ah!!"
At the sight, several passersby screamed and backed away.
Yet the man in work clothes had not died. Instead, he climbed to his feet, his body twisted, his limbs bracing against the ground at unnatural angles as a low growl rumbled from his throat.
"Careful! He's infected!"
A young man in a Patrol Bureau uniform rushed out of the crowd, his face ashen as he drew the pistol at his waist and aimed it at the infected man.
Yet he seemed unable to bring himself to pull the trigger. He could only watch as the infected man in work clothes suddenly lunged at him, coming to kill.
Bang! Bang!
At the critical moment, gunshots rang out.
A bloody hole was blasted through the infected man's body, but he merely swayed before continuing to lunge forward.
Bang!
Another shot shattered the infected man's head. Blood sprayed everywhere, and only then did he finally collapse.
The young patrol officer stood frozen in place, dazed. He knew he had not pulled the trigger.
At his side, amid the rapid sound of footsteps, a team of superpowered officers appeared. Their middle-aged captain stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder.
"I know you're kind and compassionate."
"But he was already infected."
The calm voice sounded somewhat cruel, yet it was impossible to deny, as though explaining why
