Roy and Mimikyu entered the Alola Spirit Realm on Akala Island, where they encountered feralized Armored Warriors and drove them off. As Lucario advanced toward mastering the second stage of Aura Fist, Tapu Koko observed Roy and informed the other Guardian Deities about him.
Roy and his Pokémon crossed the dangerous Spirit Realm and reached Ribombee’s territory, where they stopped to rest. Cosmog’s appearance attracted Kapu Fini, who mistook Roy for a poacher and surrounded the camp with her Misty Maker; Roy recognized her as the likely source of the Psychic Sage Art.
Roy and his Pokémon survived Kapu Lele’s Nature’s Wrath by combining their strongest attacks, but the Guardian Deity vanished before Roy could escape. Roy discovered that Kapu Lele’s Scale Powder had healed their injuries and restored their energy, leaving her intentions unclear.
Roy realized Tapu Lele had left healing scale powder as an apology and drew inspiration from her Nature’s Wrath to explore combining natural energy with weather moves. He reached Overlord Ribombee’s flower-field domain, where she began a trial of inheritance by revealing the extraordinary way she used her Overlord aura.
Roy learned that Tapu Koko had arranged an Inheritance Trial to compensate him, and Mimikyu began training to master the refined use of Overlord aura. Meanwhile, Tapu Koko watched Roy with growing fascination and told the other Guardian Deities that Cosmog had returned as Cosmoem, though they could not explain how it had gained the power to evolve so soon.
The Guardian Deities stripped Roy of the chance to become an Island King but let him continue the trials as inheritance trials, while other challengers began taking on Overlord tests. Meanwhile, Morey Ivan and Noah Reginald searched for a hidden altar in the Alola Spirit Realm, exploiting gaps in Tapu Koko’s surveillance.
Morey revealed the Mirror of Manifestation as a way to counter illusions and call on the Three Cloud Gods to stall the Guardian Deities. Roy left Akala Island for Ula-Ula Island after Mimikyu mastered Overlord Ribombee’s mobile aura, but he felt that a major event might disrupt his pilgrimage.
Roy arrived at Overlord Fomantis’s forest for a trial and learned that the Guardian Deities had changed his trials into inheritance trials because of Cosmog’s connection to them. Fomantis demonstrated its Fusion Overlord Aura, an Aura Burst that temporarily brought its power close to Elite Four level.
Roy had Mimikyu learn Aura Burst while Ooki Yukiteru challenged the final Overlord, Kommo-o, and was defeated. Five days later, Roy reached Poni Island, where Mimikyu had become the first Pokémon on his team to reach Master Level.
Roy met the Overlord Wimpod on Poni Island and learned its inheritance allowed it to fuse Overlord auras, while Mimikyu demonstrated that it could fuse with its own clones. Meanwhile, Morey Evan found the Sun Altar, and an anomaly at the Alola Spirit Realm node triggered an evacuation in Hawaii.
The three Champions discovered that senior Trainers in all three nations had betrayed them and concluded that the Illuminati was behind the crisis. In the Alola Spirit Realm, Tapu Koko and Tapu Fini confronted the Three Cloud Gods and their human allies, including Elite Four Arman.
Roy learned that mysterious invaders were trying to enter the Sun Altar and joined the other challengers gathering to stop them. As suspicion kept the Trainers from uniting, the Overlord Pokémon arrived and chose Roy to lead them in battle.
Roy led the trial participants into the Sun Altar to stop Morey and Noah, where ancient murals revealed the altar’s history and the Radiant God’s sealed light. Roy deduced that the Illuminati planned to use an evolved Cosmog to absorb that light and wield divine power, then the group found Morey Evan on a sacrificial platform.
Roy and Xiao Muyi confronted Morey at the Sun Altar and learned that Noah Reginald had taken the Star Child into Ultra Space to recreate the radiance of Ultra Sun and Moon. Meloetta’s song incapacitated most of their allies, but Roy and Xiao Muyi resisted it, leaving Roy and Kommo-o to face the Illuminati’s forces as Xiao Muyi began the attack.
Xiao Muyi and Morey Evan’s Pokémon fought to a standstill until Meloetta used Relic Song to weaken Xiao Muyi’s team and turn other Pokémon hostile. Roy’s Kommo-o overcame the song-controlled attackers with Dragon Tamer Power and powerful moves, leaving Morey to recognize Roy as a dangerous variable.
Darkrai, secretly controlled by the Illuminati president, emerged to protect Morey and overwhelmed Kommo-o with its Dark Hole. Roy prepared a special Z-Move as Darkrai’s attack threatened to tear Kommo-o’s soul away.
Roy and Xiao Muyi survived the Dark Hole’s explosion, which destroyed the Sun Altar and left their Pokémon unconscious or badly injured. Golden light then poured through an Ultra Wormhole, revealing that the Radiance Seal had broken and a Star Child was ascending toward godhood.
Roy and Mega Lucario entered the Ultra Megalopolis, where they found Noah Reginald guarding the tower as a Star Child absorbed radiance within its pillar of light. Roy assembled his remaining Pokémon to face Noah and clear the way for his own Star Child.
