Background / History
Spirit Hall upbringing
Hu Liena grew up in Spirit Hall and became Bibi Dong’s most prized disciple, its Saintess, and the leader of its Golden Generation. Her upbringing taught her to respect hierarchy, revere gods, and worship strength. She initially regarded her Innate Full Soul Power and fox Martial Soul as proof of exceptional talent 29 93 94.
Arrival in the Great Ruins
Transported in the same batch as Dugu Bo, Hu Liena reaches Crippled Old Village with her Soul Power exhausted and three Black-Scaled Monsters pursuing her. Rather than draw the beasts toward Qin Mu, she warns the unfamiliar child to flee. Qin Mu kills one monster with Deaf’s painted rings and pulls her into the village’s protective barrier before the darkness reaches her 14 15.
She initially mistakes Qin Mu for a hidden Douluo prodigy. While explaining Spirit Hall, the two empires, Martial Souls, and Soul Rings, she hopes to find connections between the worlds that might help her and Dugu Bo survive. Qin Mu instead uses the conversation to learn about Douluo Continent 15.
Granny Si threatens to turn Hu Liena’s skin into clothing. Qin Mu persuades her to spare Hu Liena specifically because she warned him about the monsters, proposing that she help wash medicinal herbs instead 15 16.
Life in Crippled Old Village
Hu Liena cautiously studies an ancient book and encounters Blind Man, who recognizes her unusual divine-treasury structure and fox-type spirit bloodline. She subsequently witnesses Granny Si kill the woman formerly sewn inside Qin Mu’s oxhide, and finds Dugu Bo being boiled alive in Pharmacist’s pharmacy 17 18 19.
Her first successful experiment with the village’s cultivation methods comes from watching Mute forge iron. By persistently copying his breathing, she draws primordial energy into her depleted meridians and refines her Soul Power. She also questions Qin Mu about the Divine Treasury realms and their capabilities 19 20.
Temple and Lijiang Sect encounters
While gathering herbs with Qin Mu, Hu Liena encounters Xian Qing’er in a ruined temple. The centipede spirit’s seductive voice immediately overwhelms her mental resistance; when Xian Qing’er later threatens to eat her, she hides behind Qin Mu and begs for protection 27 28 29.
Granny Si then takes them to witness Lijiang Sect disciples flaying a White Deer for cultivation. Despite having seen killing in Spirit Hall, Hu Liena is horrified by their methods. When the sect attacks, she worries for Qin Mu’s safety and escapes with him through the forest, struggling to keep pace without Soul Power 29 30 31.
The pursuit leads them into an underground ruin containing armed goddess skeletons. They hide while the skeletons awaken and repel a Demon God’s assault 32.
After surviving more than three days in the Great Ruins and witnessing the Lijiang Sect’s destruction, Hu Liena earns a hidden Sky Screen achievement. Its reward opens two additional trainee slots, filled by Tang Chen and the God of Evil 52.
Failed attempts to obtain instruction
Hoping to return to Spirit Hall vastly stronger, Hu Liena secretly copies Qin Mu’s cultivation breathing. A single attempt sends violent primordial energy through her inadequately conditioned meridians, scatters her Soul Power into chaos, and leaves her vomiting blood and convulsing 57.
After witnessing Village Chief’s terrifying sword power, she kneels before Granny Si and asks to become her disciple. Granny Si answers by displaying an intact human skin and threatening Hu Liena’s own skin if she raises the request again 83.
Hu Liena later interferes in Qin Mu’s encounter with a Demon Ape using Soul Power. The ape punches her away and severely injures her; Qin Mu follows her blood trail into Withered Bone Forest, kills the Man-Faced Demon Spider holding her captive, and treats her with herbs. This rescue deepens her respect and gratitude toward him 84 85.
Rejection by the young patriarch
The Heavenly Demon Sect’s young patriarch treats Hu Liena kindly and gives her medicine that cures a chill and strengthens her weakened body. She interprets this consideration as a secret examination of her talent 93.
Using Spirit Hall’s highest disciple-taking ceremony, she asks him to accept her as his successor. He denies having tested her and explains that she was allowed to stay because Qin Mu needed help with household chores. He judges her meridians blocked and her Blood Vitality weak, dismissing her Douluo talents as inadequate for the Great Ruins’ cultivation threshold. His rejection shatters her confidence and leads to a collapse of her Dao heart 94 95.
Entering the Heavenly Demon Sect’s cultivation path
Observing Qin Mu dismantle Ling Yuxiu’s dragon techniques with a branch pushes Hu Liena toward abandoning her Martial Soul. Qin Mu warns that doing so could reduce her to an ordinary mortal 103 104.
After Qin Mu becomes sect leader, she accompanies him through the Heavenly Demon Sect’s farms and factories. Automated irrigation, textile production, and mass-produced flying swords overturn her expectation that a “demonic” sect must be bloodthirsty and oppressive 113.
At the counting house, she attempts to assert herself through Heavenly Fox Enchantment. Si Yunxiang remains unaffected and counters with direct manipulation of her emotions. Assigned to sweep with a formation-inscribed broom, Hu Liena discovers that even this labor trains her to handle condensed heaven-and-earth essence 113 114.
Si Yunxiang gives her the Marrow Cleansing Chapter and a three-month deadline to remove her Soul Rings and Soul Bones and form a pure Spirit Fetus. Hu Liena completes the painful process through daily cultivation and work 114.
Challenge and debt-collection assignment
Her successful transformation revives her pride. Believing herself overwhelmingly stronger than her former Soul Emperor self, Hu Liena challenges Si Yunxiang, who suppresses her Spirit Fetus with one abacus flick and throws her through a courtyard water vat with another 115.
Si Yunxiang then sends her to collect overdue Spirit Stone dues from Iron Fist Hall in Yankang City. Along the way, Hu Liena sees ordinary vendors using spatial techniques and children creating Mechanism Beasts from mud 115.
Iron Fist Hall’s bald leader refuses immediate payment and mocks her lack of divine abilities. Hu Liena attacks with a Spirit Fetus-powered roundhouse kick; he begins countering with the water-element ability Armor Disarming. The provided account ends before the clash is resolved 115.
Appearance
- Hair: Neat, short golden hair, disheveled by her flight through the Great Ruins 14.
- Face and eyes: An alluring face with distinctive fox-like eyes 14 15.
- Build: Curvaceous figure and fair skin 14.
- Original clothing: A Spirit Hall-made silver combat outfit with gold trim, torn by thorny vines during her escape 14.
- Later clothing: Coarse linen garments while serving in Crippled Old Village 94.
- After purification: Radiates a pure, ethereal aura markedly different from her former enchanting presence 114.
Personality
Hu Liena’s ambition is closely tied to her identity as Spirit Hall’s Saintess. She repeatedly expects her inherited talents and former status to earn recognition, whether secretly copying Qin Mu’s technique, seeking the patriarch’s tutelage, or challenging Si Yunxiang after forming her Spirit Fetus 57 94 115.
Her pride does not erase her concern for others. Even while facing death, she warns Qin Mu to flee; later, she protests when she believes he is being sent into an unsafe fight against the Lijiang disciples 14 30.
She is persistent and willing to endure difficult training. Her repeated attempts at Mute’s breathing produce an early breakthrough, and three months of painful cleansing let her rebuild her foundation. Nevertheless, advancement can quickly restore her overconfidence, leaving her vulnerable to opponents whose technical understanding exceeds her raw power 19 114 115.
Abilities & Skills
Fox Martial Soul and Heavenly Fox Enchantment
Her former cultivation combines Soul Power with a fox-type Martial Soul and sensory enchantment 94 113.
- Produces a graceful Heavenly Fox phantom, pink ripples in her eyes, and a seductive aura 113.
- Si Yunxiang describes its mechanism as stimulating the senses through Soul Power rather than directly controlling emotions and desires 113.
- Fails against Si Yunxiang; Hu Liena herself is also vulnerable to Xian Qing’er’s charm 28 113.
- Her old Soul Rings, Soul Power, and soul skills are lost during purification 114 115.
Cultivation Comprehension
Hu Liena can learn from observation, but her success depends on whether her body can support the method 19 57.
- Learns enough of Mute’s breathing rhythm to absorb primordial energy after dozens of attempts 19.
- Cannot safely imitate Qin Mu’s more demanding breathing; her meridians lack his extensive medicinal and physical conditioning 57.
Spirit Fetus and Purified Physique
The Marrow Cleansing Chapter converts primordial energy into her own flesh and blood while removing accumulated impurities 114.
- Can hear falling leaves within ten miles and perceive the movement of primordial energy without deliberate concentration 114.
- Demonstrates speed and explosive power twice those of her former six-ring Soul Emperor self 115.
- Delivers a roundhouse kick that produces a sonic boom 115.
- Has not learned divine abilities or how to manipulate the laws of heaven and earth; Si Yunxiang’s formation-based suppression easily overcomes her energy 115.

- Marrow Cleansing Chapter — Foundational cultivation booklet supplied by Si Yunxiang 114.
- Formation-inscribed bamboo broom — Counting-house tool used to sweep heavy deposits of heaven-and-earth essence 114.

- Granny Si — Initially threatens to skin her and later rejects her request for discipleship through another threat 15 16 83.
- Blind Man — Recognizes her divine-treasury structure and fox bloodline; she treats him with fear and deference 17.
- Mute — Unintentional source of her first successful primordial-energy breathing practice 19.
- Young patriarch — A hoped-for master whose kindness she misinterprets as a talent test; he refuses her request 93 94.
- Si Yunxiang — Supervisor and cultivation instructor. Gives her a genuine rebuilding method but maintains a strict worker–superior relationship, not a confirmed discipleship 114 115.
- Dugu Bo — Fellow transported Soul Master whose captivity makes her seek information about his condition 15 19.
- Xian Qing’er — Hostile centipede spirit whose charm overwhelms her and who subsequently threatens to eat her 28 29.
- Ling Yuxiu — Fellow traveler whose combat abilities further challenge Hu Liena’s understanding of strength 103 104.
