Background

Tropius hatched from an Egg incubated by Lu Li. At birth, it called Lu Li “Mom” and immediately accepted eggshell and Moomoo Milk from him. Lu Li named it Xiao Lu and recognized it as an unusually suitable partner: a Dragon Vein Pokémon with economic value through its fruit and Berry production. 11 12 15

Lu Li tested the cultivation-world Growth Spell on the newborn Tropius. The spell successfully supplied it with Grass-type Essence, accelerated its physical development, and greatly increased its appetite. Tropius quickly became attached to Lu Li while developing an immediate fixation on the Indigo Berries cultivated for Feebas. 12

It proved exceptionally gifted upon displaying three inherited Egg Moves: Growth, Leech Seed, and Dragon Dance. Its existing mastery of Growth allowed it to learn Lu Li's Growth Spell at extraordinary speed; within a day, it was close to beginning the technique. 14

Tropius became Lu Li's registered starter Pokémon at No. 1 High School. Its rarity, healthy development, Dragon Vein traits, and visible quality attracted attention from staff and students. 15

Appearance

Tropius is a brownish-gray Pokémon with a long neck, sturdy limbs, leaf-like wings, and banana-like fruit growing beneath its jaw. It grows from a small hatchling into a large aerial mount and later reaches an imposing Elite Four-level physique. 11 14 41 429

  • Three green leaves grow from its head. 11
  • Four enormous green leaves grow from its back and function as wings. 11
  • Three additional leaves circle its neck. 429
  • A string of yellow, banana-like fruit hangs beneath its lower jaw. 429
  • Its flight is comparatively slow but notably stable; Lu Li describes it as steady “as a table.” 41

Personality

Tropius is gentle, affectionate toward Lu Li, and intensely devoted to plants, Berries, and orchard work. It considers farming skills more valuable than ordinary battle techniques and is particularly proud of its Growth Spell and Grassy Terrain progress. 12 200 201

It can be anxious in unfamiliar circumstances, such as becoming lost after the Fearow battle, and it dislikes extreme environments including volcanoes and icy wastelands. 43 209

Despite its peaceful nature, Tropius is highly resilient in battle. It follows Lu Li's commands even while injured, willingly trades damage when necessary, and expresses a readiness to fall before allowing harm to come to its Trainer. 42 177 201

Abilities & Skills

Growth and Special Growth

Tropius inherited Growth and merged it with Lu Li's Growth Spell, creating Special Growth: a technique that accelerates its own development and can stimulate plant growth. 14 17 30

  • Its Growth Spell reaches Master level in less than two months. 200
  • Can accelerate the growth of Berry Trees and other plants, though the target must have sufficient growth energy. 17 30
  • At full output, Special Growth can cause dense vegetation to erupt rapidly around a target. 42 43
  • Uses Growth and Special Growth as foundations for its farming and combat development. 59

Leech Seed and Star Absorb Technique

Leech Seed is Tropius's core combat technique. By combining it with Special Growth, it developed the Star Absorb Technique, which rapidly drains enemies' Life Force through explosive vine growth. 14 17 177

  • Can use Leech Seed to restore its Life Energy while weakening opponents. 17
  • Its Star Absorb Technique can affect multiple targets at once. 177
  • The technique enables rapid recovery even after severe injury. 178
  • Can hide Leech Seed among Razor Leaves to catch opponents off guard. 348
  • Its recovery-based battle style allows it to wear down stronger opponents over extended engagements. 343

Harvest

Tropius possesses the Hidden Ability Harvest, allowing it to produce and maintain varied Berries around its neck. 26

  • Carries multiple Berry types, including Pecha Berries capable of curing poison. 26
  • Can use its Berries to negate negative statuses repeatedly during battle. 26
  • Its Harvest Ability, vitality, and Special Growth make it central to Lu Li's plans for cultivating rare Berries. 129
  • Harvest is a prerequisite for Tropius's study of the Pokémon-ized Spirit Imbuing Art. 209

Grassy Terrain

Tropius studies Grassy Terrain after receiving a Grass Seed and later demonstrates the completed field skill in battle. 78 201 348

  • It specifically sought Grassy Terrain for its synergy with Special Growth. 78
  • Covers the battlefield in grass and noticeably accelerates Tropius's recovery. 348
  • Treats terrain techniques as especially valuable farming skills. 200 201

Spirit Imbuing Art

Lu Li teaches Tropius a Pokémon-adapted Spirit Imbuing Art based on Energy Ball. The technique condenses Life Essence and plant energy into living seeds. 209

  • Requires comprehension of the Life Source and Grass-type Law Source, Harvest, and Special Growth. 209
  • Is intended to support the development of rapid-fire Leech Seed techniques. 209
  • Would allow Tropius to propagate Gracidea Flowers without Lu Li's direct involvement. 209

Flight and Physical Combat

Tropius can fly shortly after hatching and later serves as Lu Li's aerial mount. 14 41

  • Its stable flight lets Lu Li travel distances that would take two hours on foot in less than half an hour. 41
  • Learns Take Down after a speed increase from a Speed Activation Potion. 73
  • Uses Headbutt, Body Slam, Razor Leaf, Magical Leaf, Sweet Scent, and Dragon Dance among its recorded moves. 23 28 59 201
  • Its enormous Life Force lets it endure attacks and recover before opponents can capitalize on the damage. 28 33 201

Equipment / Items

  • Spirit Leap Pills — Greatly improve its speed, base stats, talent, and overall strength. 259 260
  • Mystery Berries — Obtained from its mother's orchard; suited to enhancing its already exceptional recovery rate. 429 430

Relationships

  • Lu Li — Trainer and primary partner. Tropius is Lu Li's starter Pokémon, orchard caretaker, aerial mount, and one of his most trusted battle companions. 15 41 177
  • Feebas / Milotic — Teammate. Tropius's interest in Feebas's Indigo Berries creates an early grudge, though both remain members of Lu Li's team. 12 51
  • Tropius Mother — Biological mother and an Elite Four-level Tropius in the Generation 9 Secret Realm. She reunites with Xiao Lu after believing it lost for a year and thanks Lu Li for raising it well. 429
  • Ogerpon — Grants Tropius a cluster of Life Law and Grass-type Law energy, directly enabling its Gym Leader-level breakthrough. 292
  • Onix / Steelix — Teammate and occasional orchard-work collaborator; Tropius wants Onix to use Tilling in the orchard, but Lu Li refuses until Onix's control improves. 147
