Background / History

Qian Daoliu was the Rank 99 Grand Priest of Spirit Hall and grandfather of Qian Renxue. Before his descent, he observed the cultivation world's livestreams from Spirit Hall's Elders Hall, where he gave measured assessments of the disparity between Douluo Continent and the higher realms. After witnessing the Azure Fire Luan's residual wind kill Huyan Lie, he admitted that he would not even have a chance to flee from the creature. 5

Although deeply shaken by the strength of sects such as the Covering Moon Sect, Qian Daoliu believed Douluo Continent's strongest combatants could still contend with ordinary human-realm cultivators if they avoided ancient sect experts. 8 As Qian Renxue explored the cultivation world, he became increasingly conscious of its vast scale and hierarchy, concluding that Spirit Hall's struggle to unify Douluo Continent was insignificant beside the wider world. 40 41

When Qian Renxue entered the Blood-Colored Forbidden Land, Qian Daoliu accepted its brutality as an unavoidable reality of cultivation, warning that yielding on the Great Dao meant falling into a bottomless abyss. 45 He remained fiercely protective of his granddaughter, reacting with anger when a black-robed cultivator attempted to harm her. 40

Qian Daoliu was selected for an additional descent slot and departed Spirit Hall after entrusting its affairs to Bibi Dong. Rather than arriving in the mortal cultivation world, he materialized in the Immortal Realm at the Jade Green Immortal Sect. The realm's immense gravity and golden energy rapidly suppressed his Rank 99 soul power, leaving him unable to escape. 50

Mechanism Hall disciples identified his lower-realm body as suitable material for a puppet experiment. They imprisoned him, implanted a Heavenly Lightning Core into his chest, replaced parts of his body with metal components, and inscribed formations into him. As the process continued, his memories—including those of Qian Renxue—faded away. 50 51

Su Yuqing personally completed the transformation by fusing Qian Daoliu's martial-soul power with mechanism logic. His eyes became hollow dark gold, his identity was erased, and he was redesignated as Heavenly Punishment. 51 He was subsequently fitted with the Immortal-Slaying Array Diagram and dispatched to guard Resource Planet Number Three. 58

As a planetary guardian, Qian Daoliu obeyed only his directives. When tens of thousands of native cultivators rebelled against the Jade Green Immortal Sect, he activated an array spanning half the planet and annihilated the rebels, their sects, and much of the planet's surface within three breaths. 59 Later, while patrolling the resource planet, he engaged a swarm of high-level demon cultivators escaping through a spatial rift. 75

Appearance

Before his transformation, Qian Daoliu was an elderly man with a wrinkled face and distinctive golden pupils. As Heavenly Punishment, his body was rebuilt into a metal-armored mechanical form. 5 58 75

He did not dismiss the cultivation world after witnessing its power; instead, he assessed which opponents Douluo Continent could realistically face and recognized the limits of its strength. 5 8

He was proud of Spirit Hall and Qian Renxue's achievements, but his pride was tempered by growing humility as he learned of the cultivation world's vastness. 40 42 His concern for Qian Renxue was personal and intense, reflected both in his anger at threats against her and in the final memory that survived during his modification: calling her “Xue'er.” 40 51

As Heavenly Punishment, he no longer displays emotion, memory, or independent judgment. He acts solely according to the Jade Green Immortal Sect's extermination and defense directives. 58 59 75
