Level 30 quasi-Soul Elder 12 Selected by the Heavenly Screen as one of five explorers sent to the Mortal Cultivation World.
Level 31 Soul Elder 17 A pill from Fairy Nishang neutralized Blood Poison Toad venom and forcibly broke her soul-power bottleneck.

Background / History

Meng Yiran was a Level 30 prospective Soul Elder of Beast Academy when the Heavenly Screen selected her, alongside Su Yuntao, Ye Zhiqiu, Xue Beng, and Shi Nian, to explore the cultivation world 12.

She arrived alone in a poisonous swamp. Despite prior exposure to poisons through her grandparents and Beast Academy, the miasma hindered her soul-power circulation and left her dizzy. A Blood Poison Toad, a second-grade demonic beast comparable to an early Foundation Establishment cultivator, ambushed her and nearly killed her with venom 17.

Fairy Nishang of the Covering Moon Sect intervened, subdued the Blood Poison Toad, and recognized Meng Yiran’s Snake Staff martial soul as an apparent innate companion spirit treasure. Nishang also identified her as a natural poison vessel suitable for the sect’s poison-based secret arts. After curing Meng Yiran and raising her to Level 31, Nishang accepted her as a personal disciple 17.

Nishang brought her to the Covering Moon Sect, where Meng Yiran witnessed its protective formation, floating peaks, Nascent Soul supreme elders, and tens of thousands of cultivators. She was given Snow Mist Tea to purge impurities left by years of venom tempering, then received formal instruction on the cultivation realms 18.

Her master later reforged the Snake Staff using Core Formation true fire, Blackcloud Iron, and Jade Poison Python venom. The process destroyed and absorbed her three soul rings into the weapon, transforming the former martial soul into a tangible top-grade magical artifact 19. Meng Yiran subsequently received the Myriad Poison Primordial Unity Art, an inner-disciple residence, and access to a Spirit Gathering Array 20.

Appearance

Meng Yiran has neat, short dark-blue hair and a striking, athletic figure. Before entering the Covering Moon Sect, she wore tight combat attire and carried her Snake Staff; afterward, she changed into moon-white inner-disciple robes that gave her a more ethereal yet still valiant appearance 17 20.

  • Short dark-blue hair, often described as neat and practical 17.
  • Originally fights with the serpent-headed Snake Staff martial soul 17.
  • Wears moon-white Covering Moon Sect inner-disciple robes after joining the sect 20.
  • Possesses a natural poison vessel constitution, as identified by Fairy Nishang 17.

Personality

Meng Yiran is resilient and reacts quickly under pressure. In the poisoned swamp, she used her Snake Staff to test the ground, defended against the Blood Poison Toad on instinct, and attempted to counter its venom with her first soul skill despite being severely outmatched 17.

She is also perceptive and respectful toward those stronger than herself. After Fairy Nishang saved her, Meng Yiran immediately thanked her and accepted discipleship without hesitation. She quickly adapted to calling Nishang “Master” and remained eager to learn about the cultivation world 17 18.

Her reactions to the Covering Moon Sect’s resources show both inexperience with cultivation-world standards and genuine appreciation for the opportunity she received. She was awed by the sect’s scale, the cleansing effects of Snow Mist Tea, her storage pouch, and the transformation of her martial soul into a physical weapon 18 19.

Abilities & Skills

Snake Staff Martial Soul

Meng Yiran’s original martial soul was a serpent-headed staff accompanied by two yellow and one purple soul ring. Fairy Nishang regarded it as an embryonic serpent-type companion spirit treasure rather than a conventional magical artifact 19.

  • Used to probe unstable terrain in the poisonous swamp 17.
  • Could be summoned for direct defense and combat 17.
  • Its three soul rings were shattered during refinement, then their energy was compressed into patterns on the reforged staff 19.

Tongue Blade

Her first soul skill fires a blade of light from the snake head atop her staff 17.

  • Used against the Blood Poison Toad’s projectile venom 17.
  • Failed to withstand the demonic beast’s corrosive natal venom 17.

Poison Resistance

Meng Yiran has experience with venom tempering and possesses natural resistance to poison, though it was insufficient against the Blood Poison Toad’s venom 17.

  • The swamp’s poisonous miasma still caused dizziness and slowed her soul-power circulation 17.
  • Blood Poison Toad venom rapidly spread through her arm and threatened her life before Fairy Nishang cured her 17.
  • Her poison-based constitution made her suitable for the Myriad Poison Primordial Unity Art 17 20.

Reforged Serpent Staff

Fairy Nishang refined Meng Yiran’s martial soul with Blackcloud Iron and Jade Poison Python venom, converting it into a physical top-grade magical artifact 19.

  • The black metal scepter has a venomous snake head that emits a faint green glow 19.
  • Can release jade-green poisonous mist capable of corroding a large stone into ash 19.
  • Its demonstrated destructive power exceeds Meng Yiran’s former third soul skill by several times 19.
  • It can be nurtured into a true magic treasure after Meng Yiran reaches Core Formation and gains true fire 19.

Myriad Poison Primordial Unity Art

A cultivation technique personally selected for Meng Yiran by Fairy Nishang due to her innate poison constitution 20.

  • Classified by Nishang as a supreme art that leads directly to the Great Dao 20.
  • At minor mastery, a cultivator’s breath can become poisonous miasma capable of killing all plant life within a hundred miles 20.
  • The technique’s contents were imprinted directly into Meng Yiran’s mind through a jade slip 20.
  • No completed cultivation stage or demonstrated application has yet been shown 20.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Reforged Serpent Staff — Top-grade magical artifact forged from her original Snake Staff martial soul, Blackcloud Iron, and Jade Poison Python venom 19.

Relationships

  • Fairy Nishang — Master and benefactor. Nishang saved Meng Yiran from the Blood Poison Toad, accepted her as a disciple, reforged her Snake Staff, and provided her cultivation technique and residence 17 19 20.
  • Meng Shu — Grandfather, known as the Dragon Duke. He was deeply distressed when Meng Yiran was poisoned and celebrated when she survived and advanced 17.
  • Chao Tianxiang — Grandmother, known as the Serpent Grandmother. She feared for Meng Yiran’s life after seeing her trapped in poisonous miasma and nearly fainted when the venom spread 17.
  • Blood Poison Toad — Demonic beast that nearly killed Meng Yiran in the swamp before being captured by Fairy Nishang’s Five-Colored Peacock 17.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Martial Soul Reforging and Cultivation Path

Fairy Nishang destroys the conventional soul-ring structure attached to Meng Yiran’s Snake Staff and refines it into a magical artifact. Meng Yiran then receives the Myriad Poison Primordial Unity Art and a cultivation environment intended to support her through Foundation Establishment 19 20.
