Appearance
Lord Tongtian is usually depicted in dark or black Daoist robes, surrounded by the sound or manifestation of Sword Dao laws. After his fall, his formerly tranquil bearing becomes marked by unease, exhaustion, and visible desolation. 94 637 660
- Dark or black Daoist robe. 94 637
- Ancient, pure aura accompanied by faint sword chimes. 637
- In battle, his eyes become bloodshot and his saintly might distorts the surrounding space. 347 567
- His imprisonment leaves him disheveled, wounded, and dressed in tattered robes. 600 619
Personality
Tongtian is fiercely proud, protective of the Interception Sect, and unwilling to accept arrangements imposed upon him by other Sages. His refusal to sign the Investiture of the Gods initially stems from concern for his disciples and his own Dao, but this resolve repeatedly turns into rage, suspicion, and reckless escalation. 73 452 549
He is particularly vulnerable to humiliation. Defeats, the loss of disciples, and Lingxiao's rise repeatedly destabilize his Dao heart; he lashes out at rivals, questions his own choices, and eventually descends into despair after losing his saintly position. 290 402 615
After using the Heavenly Dao's origin to recover, he becomes more calculating and capable of maintaining composure under verbal provocation, though the Heavenly Dao's will begins assimilating him. 473 His later defeat forces a measure of humility: he accepts Lingxiao's conditions, bows to Haotian, and rebuilds his sect despite continuing resentment and self-doubt. 621 638 660
Abilities & Skills
Sword Dao
Tongtian's primary path is the Sword Dao. At his peak, his sword laws are regarded as perfected, and even a casual attack carries Saint-level destructive power. 73 363
- Can unleash vast Sword Dao laws capable of suppressing opponents and disrupting heaven and earth. 73 567
- Uses sword qi in conjunction with the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation. 73 593
- Retains enough Sword Dao comprehension after his fall to refine and wield the Saint-Falling Sword. 621
- His Sword Dao comprehension is partially stripped alongside his cultivation by Purple Heaven Divine Lightning. 621
Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation
The Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation is Tongtian's defining battle formation, constructed around the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords. It is feared as a formation that traditionally requires four Sages to break. 397 567
- Can encompass a region spanning billions of miles and assail multiple Sages simultaneously. 591
- Allows Tongtian to confront Primordial Celestial Worthy, Jieyin, and Zhunti while defending the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords. 567
- Is eventually broken when Grand Pure One Laozi and his incarnations attempt to seize its four swords. 567
- Tongtian later detonates the formation in an attempt to destroy the Primordial World's earth veins. 593
- Fragments from the ruined formation are reforged into the Saint-Falling Sword. 621
Supreme Pure Dao Art and Upper Pure Origin
As the master of the Interception Sect, Tongtian possesses the Supreme Pure Dao Art and a profound Upper Pure origin. 79 666
- Personally teaches Shen Gongbao the Supreme Pure Dao Art after accepting him as a direct disciple. 79
- Uses his Upper Pure origin to suppress Jinling's Heavenly Fiend Lone Star fate and calamitous aura. 688
- His Upper Pure origin is repeatedly drained through this process and exploited by Grand Pure One Laozi and Primordial Celestial Worthy. 688 725
- By Chapter 725, only thirty percent of his Upper Pure origin remains. 725
Heavenly Dao Origin
Tongtian draws upon the Heavenly Dao's origin to recover from injury and force an increase in strength. 432 473
- Returns from Chaos with healed injuries and improved cultivation after relying on Heavenly Dao origin. 473
- The recovery comes at the cost of carrying and gradually being assimilated by the Heavenly Dao's will. 473
- The Heavenly Dao's will recedes after his Saint Dao Fruit and Grandmist Purple Qi are removed. 612

- Haotian — Jade Emperor who grants Tongtian Cangwu Mountain, cultivation resources, and permission to reopen the Interception Sect after Tongtian bows his head. 638
Story Role / Major Arcs
Investiture of the Gods Calamity
Tongtian clashes with Primordial Celestial Worthy during the Sages' discussion of the Investiture of the Gods. He refuses to accept the consequences for his disciples and later takes Shen Gongbao—the person destined to invest the gods—as a personal disciple, arming him with the Thunder Duke Whip, Heaven-Opening Pearl, and command over the Six Souls Banner. 73 79
As the calamity progresses, the Interception Sect suffers repeated setbacks and defections. Tongtian increasingly regrets initiating the conflict, yet remains unable to abandon his attempt to preserve the sect and overcome his rivals. 290 362
Defeat by Lingxiao
Tongtian's position collapses when Primordial Celestial Worthy reveals enough supreme treasures to counter the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation. Lingxiao then challenges him directly, using the Return-to-Void Sword Dao, Red Dust Sword Dao, and eventually the Primordial Creation Seal. 397 398 402
The Primordial Creation Seal leaves Tongtian badly injured and unable to resist, shattering the Interception Sect disciples' faith in their master's invincibility. 402
All-or-Nothing War
Desperate to restore the Interception Sect, Tongtian recovers through the Heavenly Dao's origin, acquires the Pangu Banner, and orders his disciples to strike Western Qi and Great Qin in hopes of preventing the Human Dao's awakening. 473 484
He eventually launches the decisive battle, personally bringing the Pangu Banner and Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation against Primordial Celestial Worthy and the Western Sages while Daoist Duobao establishes the Myriad Immortals Sword Formation at Golden Rooster Ridge. 549
Collapse of the Interception Sect
After the sect is reduced to roughly one hundred remaining disciples, Tongtian attacks Golden Rooster Ridge in vengeance. He battles Laozi, Primordial Celestial Worthy, Jieyin, and Zhunti within the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation, but cannot prevent the loss of the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords. 564 567
Driven by defeat and desperation, he severs heaven-supporting pillars, destroys Golden Turtle Island and the Azure Roaming Palace, and detonates the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation in an attempt to bring ruin to the Three Realms. 593
Fall from Sainthood and Imprisonment
Lingxiao captures Tongtian after the catastrophe, destroys his Saint Dao Fruit, and removes his Grandmist Purple Qi. His cultivation falls to the peak Quasi-Saint realm, ending his status as a Heavenly Dao Saint. 596
Imprisoned in the Heavenly Prison with his cultivation sealed, Tongtian endures Purple Heaven Divine Lightning and humiliation from Wuzhiqi and other prisoners. His Dao heart fractures between regret, hatred, and the desire to escape. 600 615
Rebuilding at Cangwu Mountain
Tongtian accepts Lingxiao's terms, creates the Saint-Falling Sword from the formation's remnants, and is sent to Cangwu Mountain. He later bows to Haotian in exchange for resources and permission to reestablish the Interception Sect. 621 638
Although initially isolated and despondent, he rebuilds the Azure Roaming Palace, creates residences for new disciples, and resumes teaching. Many recruits seek his secret arts rather than joining out of loyalty. 660 666
Jinling and the New Interception Sect
Tongtian accepts Jinling as a personal disciple after recognizing her Geng Metal Sword Dao origin and Heavenly Fiend Lone Star fate. His efforts to suppress her calamity drain his Upper Pure origin and serve the schemes of Laozi and Primordial Celestial Worthy. 687 688
Despite the risk to his cultivation and the complications of their former master-disciple bond, Tongtian and Jinling become Dao companions. Their union unseals her Geng Metal Sword Dao origin and elevates her to the early Quasi-Saint realm. 725
