Kano held the map the centaurs had given him and headed deeper into the Forbidden Forest.

With his senses fully extended, Kano quickly discovered quite a few Acromantula hatchlings no bigger than fingernails.

As he followed the direction they had come from, the spiders grew larger and larger. Kano fully released his presence, and the somewhat intelligent Acromantulas clicked and chattered among themselves before crawling out of the dark corners to stand on either side of the path and watch him pass.

"Where did he come from?"

"A strange human. He doesn't smell like a wizard..."

"Aragog! Aragog! Someone has come."

Without hesitation, Kano entered the dark, damp hollow. Before him stretched an enormous gray spiderweb.

Countless huge Acromantulas, each as large as a carriage, had woven this place together. An old spider the size of a small elephant crawled out of the darkness.

"A human?" White, cottony growths covered its eyes, and it looked rather listless. "Why haven't you killed him? I want to sleep."

"Aragog, I'm Hagrid's friend," Kano said.

"Oh, Hagrid never sends people into our territory." Aragog waved its great pincers. "And your scent seems rather strange."

"I am a Druid, a guardian of balance," Kano said.

"I came today to ask about the Basilisk. Has it become active again recently?"

Kano had no interest in beating around the bush with this old thing and stated his purpose outright.

The spiders of all sizes on the web seemed to fall silent. Even the scraping of pincers disappeared.

"No, don't say its name!" Aragog agitatedly rubbed its two front legs together. "Many years ago, when I was still a little spider, I sensed its presence in the castle."

"Even thinking of it now still makes me tremble with fear."
