Re-exploring the Chamber of Secrets

Harry had recently begun researching Voldemort.

Since they were bound to fight to the death sooner or later, he needed to understand Voldemort's life story.

He had been researching family trees lately anyway. Voldemort was Slytherin's heir; he could not possibly have sprung from a crack in a rock. Even if he had used an alias, the search range had been greatly narrowed.

After several days of rest, Kano returned to the Chamber of Secrets with Dumbledore.

This time, the two of them made their way into the school from the Chamber of Secrets' exit.

They entered the magically reinforced cavern and descended the somewhat crumbling stone steps. One old and one young, both held up their wands to maintain the light as they searched the sides with their eyes.

There were no living creatures in the cave. Presumably, the Basilisk had eaten them all as snacks.

Before long, they reached the source of the stench: a spherical mass of bones and feathers that the Basilisk could not digest and had vomited up.

With a wave of Kano's wand, the remnants clinging to the corpses were completely absorbed by plants that sprouted forth, leaving only stark white bones, which were buried deep underground.

Further ahead, a vast platform appeared below ground, its floor covered in traces of where the Basilisk had coiled. It looked as though there would still be plenty of room even if the Basilisk doubled in size.

Further down was the passage the Basilisk used to crawl into the Chamber of Secrets. They followed the stone steps until they reached the head of Slytherin's statue. The opening they had made a few days ago had yet to close, and the Chamber reeked of snake blood.
